I have stayed at many fine hotels, however the Il Pelicano is right at the top. It has a vibe that I can't quite describe. Kind of bohemian, but elegant and refined at the same time. You kind of feel like a celebrity at this property. The staff is waiting for a way to make you comfortable and content. The... More

The hotel overall is great, with very nice rooms, beautiful vistas, great access to the sea. The bar is very good and staffed by professionals. The Grill restaurant is good quality, easy going - nice place for lunch. The big let down is the 1 star gourmet restaurant, which doubles up as the venue for breakfast. It had 2 stars... More

I needed A few days to relax after 10 very hectic days of traveling through Tuscany with my family. Il Pellicano was perfect. I will say that I was traveling alone, where most of the other guests were couples. That was slightly awkward but it didn't impact my stay. This is not a place where families bring young children. It... More

Il Pellicano certainly has a rich history like many Italian seafront luxury resorts. What is so impressive about Il Pellicano is the teams commitment (I mean how many hotels have a 'creative director.') to maintaining the signature Il Pellicano vibe that is a meld of classic Italian luxury and vintage mid century cool (the hotel originally opened in 1965) that... We had heard such great things about this hotel and were sadly disappointed. There is simply nothing to do here. It is located in a remote, difficult to get to place. No towns nearby, no restaurants, no nothing except a pool and a concrete slab that they call the "beach". There are two restaurants. One they call their "gourmet" restaurant.... More

The hotel is built into the hillside with unobstructed views of the Mediterranean practically everywhere. The location would not be a place for someone who has a problem with stairs. Our room required you to climb 67 stairs to get there! In fairness the staff would take you there via cart if you asked. Our room, a suite, was beautiful... More

For years we visit this hotel and it still remains our favorite. We love the suites with their sea views and the splendid beach that takes you back to the old days. Privacy and rest is guaranteed. Like Hotel Posta Vicchia this sister hotel has high service and beauty at highest level. Nad you feel the history and love from first sight. Food, sea, rooms are great. But it's very pricy to live like a moviestar

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The elegant five-star hotel, located in Tuscany's Maremma region, was built in the mid-1960s as a love nest for Michael and Patricia Graham and it is today part of The Leading Hotels of the World. The home, called Il Pellicano as a tribute to the first time the couple met at Pelican Point in California, was initially a club for the Grahams' friends, but was subsequently expanded and opened to friends of friends. However, a few things remained the same: the pleasure of feeling at home and the glamorous and slightly retro atmosphere. The hotel's discrete luxury and the still-rugged Tuscan countryside attract the international jet set. Today, the cottages and the central building are suspended between the sky and the sea, with large rooms, windows and terraces where it's unclear where the indoors end and the outdoors begin. There are pathways and stairways, fragrant gardens and discrete corners, a restaurant with one Michelin stars and three Gambero Rosso forks, a heated sea-water swimming pool, a spa with a sea view to soothe both the body and the soul, and for those wanting to take a dip in the Tyrrhenian Sea, a white platform with chaise longue and immaculate parasols. ... more   less
