It is important to realize when you reserve this place that you are reserving a room in a religious hospitality house. It is not a typical hotel or bed and breakfast, but more of a hostel. Go into it expecting something very basic, and you will be delighted. Go into it expecting something more, and you will be unhappy. I... More

We arrived by train, picked up the Carta Unica at the store in the station, for all the sites and funicular rides including the short bus ride to the main plaza. The duomo, bus stop and Villa Mercede are all within a minute walk of each other. Ask for a room with a view!!!!! There is one man running the whole place... More

A friend and I stayed at Villa Mercede for one night at the beginning of a 3-week trip through Italy. Unlike another reviewer, I received a prompt response to an e-mail request for 2 rooms from Padre Tonino, the padre who runs the place (as an aside, I used Google Translate to convert my messages to Italian before sending them... My friend and I stayed 2 nights, and I an additional night at the Villa Mercede. We both had spent time in Orvieto studying abroad and were going back to visit the town and program for a brief vacation. She speaks Italian so she made the reservation over the phone (be forewarned we never received a response when we tried... More

This is a beautiful small hotel run by a religious order that is a great value and location. The breakfast is small but fresh. The hotel includes free parking, which is great. We found it a great location for site seeing in Orvieto or the local environs.

As the title indicates, if you come here expecting five star amenities, don't come. If you're coming to take in the Duomo's atmospherics and everything else Orvieto has to offer, do come. Rooms and breakfast are spartan, but you can't beat the price. And the building and its views are special. The father in charge of bookings speaks little English,... More

The biggest advantage that this B&B has is that it's smack in the middle of the town, right beside the Duomo. In addition the rooms are spacious, the priest in charge was friendly and the price for such a location is unbeatable. Parking was also available. On the downside, this is a somewhat gloomy monastery, rather spartan and impersonal. Breakfast... More

I loved my stay here! The rooms are basic but very clean, spacious and many come with a stunning view of the hills. It is also in a perfect location- a mere few steps from the Duomo and the main part of town. 2 things to be mindful of. 1- when you arrive I would ring the doorbell. There isn't... More

It's location and architecture are it's assets -- not the lodging. No front desk or really any staff around much of the time. The entry lobby has no signage with information on where to go or how to notify someone of your arrival. We found a woman out back who didn't speak any English but we muddled through the process... The Villa Mercede has all the possibilities of becoming a super place to stay while in Orvieto. However, the breakfast is so bad that it kills all the positive thing you could otherwise say about the place and its closeness to the central attactions of the wonderful city. we will never even think of staying again in Villa Mercede -...
