Agriturismo Antica Olivaia is a charming 17th century stone farmhouse nestled in a protected nature reserve and located near the ancient hilltop town of Orvieto. This recently restored country inn offers its guests 6 spacious rooms with en suite bathrooms, a buffet breakfast, WI-fi, a private pool & breathtaking views of Orvieto & its countryside. Conveniently located between three of Italy's most beautiful regions, it is the ideal place from which to discover the extraordinary Italian countryside and many towns such as Civita di Bagnoregio, Todi, Spello, Assisi, Montefalco, Spoleto, Montepulciano, Montalcino & Pienza. The owners, Marco and Daniela, may occasionally prepare a light dinner based on availability and number of guests. Informal cooking lessons (pasta making) can also be organized at an additional cost. Marco and Daniela look forward to welcoming you to the Antica Olivaia ... a slow farm for a slow life! Regional ID Code CIR n.055023AGR4S17530

This is our fourth stay at Antica Olivaia and when in Umbria we would not stay anywhere else. That should tell you everything you need to know. You’ll be treated like family by the owners, Dani and Marco, who will also give you great suggestions for side trips and where to eat and make reservations for you. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, each one has a small fridge to keep snacks and wine and the views are spectacular. There’s so much to do and see around and in Orvieto so a car is an absolute must (and driving in Italy, especially in the countryside, is not congested and much safer than where we live in Houston). In the summer you can enjoy the lovely pool and patio. Book direct with their website and get the best price. You will have a wonderful time and you’ll hate to leave.

Amazing place to stay! I wish I could give it a thousand stars. Where to begin. The location is unbelievable--the view is like nothing you've ever seen. You can see for miles and miles. The star gazing is fabulous (you can see the Milky Way, shooting stars). Danielle and Marco could not be better hosts. They will help you buy tickets, recommend restaurants and things to do, teach you some Italian, the list goes on and on. The breakfasts are home made and stellar. The property has a meditation bench, a wonderful pool, the rooms and the beds are comfortable, clean and truly Italian. You'll feel safe and a part of the land. There is hiking. Honestly, we feel like we made new friends and I can't think of a single reason why we wouldn't return again and again. It's just wonderful. Bravo Danielle and Marco! We're so happy to have found your slice of paradise.

After traveling around Italy for a month, our second to last stop before returning home was the best experience of our entire 5 weeks in Italy.
Our hosts, Marco & Daniela were warm & welcoming. It took all of the first two minutes after arriving to feel like part of their family. They shared their knowledge of Orvieto with us and were so helpful with directions and suggestions of where to eat and what to see during our stay. Our room was spacious, comfortable and well appointed! The view from our room was breathtaking, as was the view from Antica Olivaia in general. Our homemade pizza night with them was out of this world and the food in general was excellent. Breakfast was great and left us wanting for nothing.

In 2019 we visited Antica Olivaia for the first time and we loved it. The location, the view from the hill on Orvieto, the hospitality, the swimming-pool, the organized diners with other guests, it was all fantastic. We promised to come back. Due to COVID, we couldn’t come earlier than May 2022 and also this second stay at Antica Olivaia was great. The welcome by Daniella & Marco was heart-warming. The region is so pretty and you can visit so many nice places, even the second time. Just ask Daniella, she has the best suggestions for locations to visit but also for the best restaurants. This year she made a reservation for us to visit the winery Madonna Del Latte. Wow, what a great experience. We don’t know when we come back, but it’s sure we will come back.

What a great stay, thank you so much Daniella & Marco. Nothing was too much trouble, changing room layouts, booking dinners, great breakfasts & a lovely dinner. The rooms & pool were lovely too. Highly recommend a stay here if you are in the Umbria & Orvieto area. Wonderful.

We wanted to break up our 10 day trip to Rome with a couple of days in the "country" mid-week. After spending 3 days at Antica Olivaia, we wish we had spent 7 days with them and only 3 in Rome. It was the most welcoming, warm, relaxing, place we could have asked for. Marco and Daniella were so amazing to spend time with and were overly gracious hosts. The rooms were "spa like" and outdid our expectations. It was a little chilly and the pool was not yet open, but the property, gardens, olive trees, etc were worth exploring. I would recommend Antica Oilvaia to any person, couple, family or group of friends traveling through Italy who want a taste of authentic Italian living, eating and of course drinking!

The only downside to Antica Olivaia is having to leave it. We spent eight nights and it just wasn’t long enough. The location is perfect for exploring the region, it’s easy to find, close to the lovely hill town of Orvieto (worth multiple visits on its own), offers stunning views, a pool, spotless, comfortable rooms and breakfast. The owners, Dani and Marco, are two of the most interesting, affable, outgoing, welcoming and helpful people you will ever meet. If they recommend a place to visit or shop or eat, go!
Not to be missed are the nights where Marco cooks dinner for the guests: you’ll get fresh, seasonal, expertly prepared and delicious food plus the chance to interact with and enjoy the company of your fellow guests. My husband, who is rare to praise a meal, said the roast goose dinner was the standout meal of his three week stay in Italy.
We can’t wait to go back, relax, laugh and spend time in this magical place with Dani, Marco, Miles (best concierge dog ever) and the cats Quilt and Lucy.

Before choosing to stay here I read all the glowing reviews and thought they might be too good to be true - but they weren't. I'd give this place 6 stars if I could. Our week-long stay here was the high point of our vacation in Bell'Italia: from the utterly charming and welcoming hosts, Marco and Daniela (both speak perfect English) to the stunning views, comfortable rooms and excellent recommendations of what to do in the area (you really do need to give nearby Orvieto at least one full day if not more) - everything exceeded expectations especially their handsome canine concierge, Miles. Without exception our fellow travelers were interesting and amiable and all said that they wish they had stayed longer, as did we.
Antica Olivaia is easy to reach from Orvieto if you follow Dani's directions from the website and there are any number of interesting side trips to enjoy. Or you can choose to just relax by the pool or on the hammock for a day or two. Be sure to take advantage of Marco's home made dinners which are offered several times during the week - not to be missed!
We will be back and, as they say in Italian: non vedo l'ora!

We enjoyed four wonderful days at this beautiful spot in the Umbrian Hills. Our kids, 15 and 12, were thrilled to have a pool to play in, after several days of very hot site seeing in Rome. Marco and Daniella are lovely hosts and the property is even prettier than it looks online, with a stunning old villa and incredible views all around. We had a second floor room with a queen and two singles for the boys and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom shower was small but adequate for a few days. We dined twice at Antica and the food and wine were very nice and Daniella provides delicious desserts. Our son likes plainer food and they were happy to make some accommodations for him. Marco and Daniella are very knowledgeable about the area and have lots of site seeing suggestions. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at a trattoria in Orvieto which Daniella reserved for us. A day-trip to nearby Civita, a stunning hill town, was well worthwhile. They don't make at the Antica so we went to a nearby grocery store and got wonderful bread and cheeses and had a picnic on the Antica porch. We would definitely return to this special place.

Our five nights here were a highlight of our trip to central Italy. Other reviewers have perfectly captured the charm, warmth and skills of Daniela and Marco. We quickly felt a special bond to them and the whole place. We talk about it constantly when people ask us about our trip! The food, ambience and conversations over dinner were terrific. Marco is a great cook and Daniela bursts with energy and ideas for guests to visit.

The other guests were multinational, interesting and very friendly. Be aware that Antica Olivaia is very rural even though it is close to Orvietto. You have to go some distance on tiny roads to get there, but that quickly becomes part of the charm. The views, food and hospitality can't be beat!

The driving distance from Rome's Fiumicino Airport to Orvieto is 130 km if you are renting a car. Otherwise if you take the Regional train from Rome's central station "Termini" it takes about 1 hour and 10 mins. to get to Orvieto (ticket costs Euro 7.50/way) and then rent a car in front of the station (Avis or Hertz). You will need a car to reach our farmhouse as taxis can get expensive to/from Orvieto and this will also allow you to do some sightseeing in the countryside. - Marco, Owner
