first of all, i have never been to a city with so many bad, dreadful even, and expensive hotels as novara this one makes no exception, though, compared with others, it turned out to be quite decent expensive, run by two very interesting (as in weird) sisters and their noisy wild dog, the hotel has ordinary rooms, cold and spartan the location is very good, but fails to make up for all the other flaws. 3 stars, really??

Seldom does one have the misfortune to stay in such a dreadful place. I was travelling on business and needed to stay over on a weekend evening. This hotel was one in Novara with a free room at the time. After checking in I realised why. In essence the room was without question the worst I have ever experienced: very basic, dark and dingy, peeling walls, smelling of stale smoke. I can imagine it has not been at all maintained at all since the 1950s! When I asked the receptionist for another room due to the strong stench of smoke, she informed me with surprise that this could not be as it was a non smoking room. When I brought her attention to the ashtray in the room she informed me that this was in the room to store change. I can personally think of many other things that could be used to store change other than an ashtray! Breakfast the next day was the final insult. I asked for a coffee and was presented with an array of dry biscuits to choose from. They were stale and had been well guarded by the hotel dog which was salivating in front of them. All this for the pleasure of €90.00. This place is not fit to be a hotel. It's an insult to some other very good hotels in this region of Italy. In my view it should be reported to the Italian public health before being closed down.

I spent here three days at the end of October, 2005. It has an excellent location. It's near to Malpensa. Famous Italian brands, cafeterias, bars are next to this hotel. The shop of Balzano is just a few steps from here, where you can buy Herend porcelain. The rooms are common, but clean and a little bit noisy. The restaurant is very good with a helpful waiter, who always offer excellent Italian dishes and wines. Unfortunately the rooms have no mini bar.
