An amazing experience at Salcheto Winehouse. We left with the feeling of having experienced Tuscany, with its beauty, food and people.

We felt very comfortable, with rooms decorated in a modern fashion and a lot of space. The breakfast was served with a lot of attention, and we enjoyed it every morning as if it was the first day. Worth mentioning is the ability to take a bath in the “hot tubs” with a great view of Montepulciano, a true luxury. We enjoyed a delightful cooking lesson with Melina, as well as a delicious dinner, and a brunch, always accompannied by a magnificent wine.

From there, we were able to visit several towns and cities, not only by car, but also by bike, courtesy of Urban Bikery. Florence and Sienna are a must, and Montecchiello and Pienza make up for a great bike ride along the Tuscan vineyards.

Room Tip: Rent a bike and explore the Tuscan landscape. Also, try out the Pecorino cheese from Cugusi.

We did a tour and luncheon at this wonderful winery. The tour guide was very good and knowledgeable. This is a winery that uses sustainable practices. The luncheon was good and had wine tasting with each small course. I was not thrilled with the wine, but others in my party liked it and sent some home to the states.

Had such a great stay at Salcheto. It was a wonderful way to start our trip to Italy. The views really are outstanding from the winery, people kept asking me if my pictures were fake! It is also located so close to the heart of Montepulciano but also Pienza. It was great we got to explore both.

The breakfast at Salcheto was great, I loved all the pastries and the cafe was some of the best I had all week. And of course can't forget the wine! We had a really great tour and tasting with Claire. I really enjoyed my time here and would love to go back some day!

We scheduled a wine tour and tasting and due to road construction ended up being late for our scheduled visit to Salcheto Winery. I called on our way and told them we were running late so I was told we would just have a tasting. We arrived and no one else was seated at their tables. When we were finally served, the employee explained all 3 wines, poured them all, and left us with some bread and no other chance to ask about the history of the winery, etc. The wine was ok and then they tried to charge me again even though I already paid through Trip Advisor. We felt very ignored even though we paid top dollar for next to nothing. What a disappointing experience.

Yesterday my friend and I visited Salcheto Winehouse and did a tour and tasting. The tour started off with a sweet white wine that resembled apple juice. We then were taken on a very short tour of just the cellars. No mention of grapes, vines, climate, soil or anything one would like to know that makes particular wines special and taste the way they do. We learned some amazing facts about sustainability and the practices the vineyard uses. That was very inspiring and the reason we came in the first place. We then had an awkward and horrible tasting of three wines (the website said four?) where the woman would disappear for 15 minutes in between each pour and leave us to make awkward small talk with the other people on the tour. She didn’t bring out all the wine to start, like any other tasting ever. The wines were not good. Their Nobile was the only one that was drinkable, but we definitely didn’t want more. The worst part of the whole experience was that it costs 16 Euro each... and we’ve been traveling all over Tuscan Wine Coutry for days having incredible and free tastings and tours. This area has such phenomenal wine and this vineyard is a letdown and disappointment and waste on money. I do not recommend to any real wine lover.

I had originally planned for us to visit here but then read a few negative reviews on TA and took it off my list. However we had an hour to kill between one tasting and lunch so came here 'on spec'. The views to Montepulciano are superb and so we decided to do a tasting. We were told it was Eur10 pp for 3 wines. We were given no choice of which wines we could taste and were therefore disappointed when the first was a rather unusual rose. As I was genuinely interested in tasting and potentially buying some of the red wine we asked after the 2nd wine if I could taste one red and my husband a different one. They did agree to this. But all the tasting pours were so scant it was hard to properly taste (I am a qualified sommelier and even if one doesn't drink it all a pour of more than two sips is needed to properly appreciate all the aspects of a wine as I learned when doing blind tastings etc. for my exams). However I decided we would buy some wine (and I mean more than 1 or 2 bottles - I think it was 9 or 12) so the total wine bill was quite a lot. I was shocked that we still had to pay for the tastings. I've never had this happen before other than in perhaps the most exclusive Napa wineries. We should have simply told them we wouldn't buy the wine - they'd have lost a Eur200 sale - but were both so surprised it didn't occur to us until we got in the car. This place gets a definite thumbs down from me on the tasting / hospitality experience - the wines are a different matter.

This guest house and winery combine some very nice elements, but also have some downsides worth mentioning. It offers an undeniably beautiful view of Montepulciano. The design of the rooms are very sleek and modern. The breakfast was very tasty and is served in a very cozy dinning room. However, it must also be noted that the winery is at the end of a very bumpy and dusty gravel road. If you are in anything other than a cheap rental car it is not very pleasant to drive on. We were in a rented classic Alfa Spyder when we drove down the gravel tracks and managed to scrape the bottom on a number of bumpy spots. I personally would not want to drive down this road with an expensive modern sports car for example. The other gripe we had was with the complimentary wine tasting and the check out procedure during which we felt no attention was paid to us as the staff were set on preparing for a bigger group that was coming in for lunch. It simply would have been nice to be greated with a smile at the reception area and perharps offered some further explanation of the the production process or the history of the winery. Instead the complimentary tasting felt inpesonal, cold and formal. In conclusion, the design and location of the guest house are perfect, but the lack of a personal touch and the gravel road let this property down in our opinion.

Stayed for one night. We received an upgrade to a junior suite when we arrived as it was available that night.
Rooms are very cool, a mix of traditional build & contemporary decor.
Bed was extremely comfortable. Never wanted to leave.
Shower was amazing, incredible water pressure given the whole place is off the electric grid. Soaps & shampoo supplied were incredible.
I would highly recommend a stay here. We would have used the outdoor hot tubs but a high rain storm kept us away. Wine fridge in the room was very tempting and we sampled a few bottles.

Location is perfect. About 5 minutes drive to downtown Montepulciano and very close to many wineries.
The view is amazing!
Rooms are very comfortable. Bed is wonderful. Good linen and towels.
The decoration is very clean, rustic with a modern touch.
Breakfast was really good! Many choices of fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries, cornetos, jams, focaccia and great cappuccino.
Staff is very attentive!
And also we had the opportunity to taste their wines, which were delicious!
I can't wait to go back!

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon and really enjoyed our visit. The hot tubs are lovely to relax in and enjoy a glass of the vineyards wine whilst looking over at the town of Montepulciano. It's very peaceful but only a 10 minute drive from the small town.

We arrived just before check-in closed and it was informative but would have been great to have some restaurant recommendations/taxi numbes etc. available in the room

The room was modern and clean, however it would have been an added bonus if housekeeping were asked to remake the bed etc. each morning (change of sheets not required, just a little tidy up).

The tour included with the stay was interesting and informative and we were staying during the harvest so had an opportunity to watch the hand-sorting of the grapes.

Love the focus on the environment here - biodynamic/organic/recycled - you name it they do it!

Breakfast was a lovely big spread of savory and sweet treats., As it's a communal table it would be nice to have some soft background music to encourage a more relaxed atmosphere as it was very quiet with everyone possibly concerned with the fact all conversations are over heard.

Would definitely recommend for a quiet couple of days in a modern working vineyard.
