It is certainly the jewel missing on the Amalfi coast, thanks to its arches in typical Mediterranean style, the botanical garden, the exotic garden and all modern facilities, such as bars. All rooms and suites are furnished with taste and charm with majolica tiles from Vietri sul mare and hand decorated furniture, masterpiece of Tuscan craftsmen.

Very disappointing. Dropped off by taxi at small unmanned reception office at the back of an empty block of flats amongst the rubbish bins. Quite intimidating. No indication of what to do next other than a notice in Italian only. After about 10 mins a staff member 'found' us and escorted to the main entrance via circular staircase of 25 steps , a funicular ride and a further 75 steps. A good start!! Our 'upgraded' room was on the uppermost floor of the hotel. Amazing view from the balcony. The rather hard bed was on a mezzanine floor above the main part of the room. A rather steep and narrow stair case provided access to the bathroom downstairs!! We chose to keep the bathroom light on all night to provide a little safety when using toilet at night . Very fancy bathroom had nowhere to put sponge bags or toothbrushes etc. and a big jacuzzi bath. NO shower. Air conditioning settings could not be changed in room only by reception. TV had no foreign language channels. We would have expected in a 5 star hotel to have been able to watch BBC world news, CNN and have available at least another 6 languages. Breakfast was poor. Luke warm scrabbled eggs. Limited cheese/ham/bread and pastries. No toast. Some fruit and about 10 plates of cold cooked vegetables that looked like they had been there all night. We have had a better room/breakfast combinations in a Premier Inn. We had 2 very poor and expensive evening meals. Service was poor. One evening we returned to the hotel to find that the funicular was out of action. We were pointed to a gate and left to find our own way up 200 steps in the dark and wet. Steps that were somewhat uneven and in some places with poor guard rails. The very least we should have been provided with an escort. We didn't use the pool but it was small and looked in poor condition. Interior decor and furnishings were old and very tired. Small lounge area was only inside space to sit and read/chat. Reception and junior waiting on staff tried very hard to please.

Unfortunately our visit to the Amalfi coast was awful because of the torrential rain and thunderstorms. The staff at the hotel were very nice, the man who met us at the lift was really nice! And the two gentlemen on reception were very helpful. However the hotel is way past it's best, might have been a 5 star in the 90s but is falling apart now. The room was average at best and the breakfast was shocking, not sure what the food was, it looked like meatballs and there was a dish of aubergines in tomato sauce. We phoned reception and asked the lady if they had an umbrella which she informed us they did have one, we went down to collect it and within 5 mins they didn't have it anymore. Luckily BA cancelled our flights so we booked onto the next available flights home and cut our stay short by three days.

I will not go into detail on the hotel itself, all has been written by other guests. I just want to ask the owner of the hotel to invest and refurbish it into its ‘grandeur’ it probably had many years ago. His very gentle staff deserves this. They have to serve customers that signed into a 5-star hotel, but every customer used to 5 star hotels, or even 4 star … will not be satisfied … and the staff of the hotel has to cope with that. So, please hotel owner… you have a great location, great staff… find an investor and make this hotel great again.

My wife and I had our first visit at the Amalfi coast last week. We are so happy with our stay. The Botanico San Lazzaro was perfect for us. The location is stunning, with a breathtaking wiev with its terraces, breakfast, dining areas and not to forget the pool area. This is a smaler hotell that never will fell crowded. With the climate, and the fact that the hotell is placed in ha hillside garden gives some ants now and then but regular cleaning from houskeepers keeps this under control and never bothered us. The food is very good, the staff is very friendly and will always do their best to help you out. Be aware of the stairs from the elvator up to the hotel. It is 76 of them and they are steap. For us this was no problem, only good exercise and makes the stay exotic and interesting. Going around the amalfi coast is esy, we used the ferry a lot to nearby cities. Easy, guick and relaxing. And with the private beach availiable a busy they ended with a nice dip in the oacean every day. Thanks for a rememberable stay, we can recommend this hotel and hope to be back soon.

Amazing view but subpar facilities. Broken boards on pool terrace, lock on door didn’t work correctly, cleaning wasn’t properly done and a lot of other small things just kept adding up. They had a lot of personal but everyone needed help with the smallest of tasks.

Arrived to Antonio at the bottom of the funicular who helped with the bags (thankfully) smiling and chatting all the way. Check-in went (relatively - more later) smoothly with Dominio giving us a tour of the hotel and gardens with welcome drink in hand. Now to the rooms, we had booked the premium suite, however on checking in we learned that there had been a storm the previous night (the debris around the place attested to this being the case with workmen busy trying to fix everything). Unfortunately our room had suffered some water damage and was not available. The team at HBSL could not have been more apologetic and spent the next 5 days doing everything in their power to make up for it, the rooms we were given were more than adequate with private balconies on 2 sides and perfect sea views. We were afforded free drinks, meals and even a massage to compensate for our inconvenience. The food and local wine is excellent, would highly recommend the pizza terrace for lunch. The views are truly spectacular and a walk around the cactus gardens is worth the effort. Would definitely return.

I travel often and have never had an experience like this with a hotel. I booked a stay here through Expedia two months prior to our visit. Just a week and a half before our trip, Expedia emailed me that this hotel could no longer accommodate us and was cancelling our reservation. “No rooms left.” Meanwhile, I could see on all hotel booking sites that they had plenty of the same room I booked for sale for much more money than I originally booked ours. When I called Expedia, they said there was nothing they could do so I spent lots of long-distance dollars trying to get a hold of the hotel. When I finally did get a hold of someone, they told me that they were overbooked. I let them know that I had proof and pictures that they were trying to take my room away and sell it for more money online (600 more) and this was not good practice. After spending $80 on the phone to Italy, we came to an agreement that we would only stay for three of the original 6 nights and they would upgrade us to a better room with a free bottle of wine. Once at the hotel, the room was a downgrade and there’s no bottle of wine. Even though we had already paid Expedia for the room, the hotel upon check out claimed they never received the money. I’ve dealt with Expedia many times and had never had a hotel claim this. We had to pay the hotel again even though we had already paid through Expedia. The manager assured us that he would have Expedia refund the original amount but he never did. Now still a month later, I am trying to get a refund through Expedia and of course the hotel will not get back to them to confirm any of this and so they are not issuing a refund. I stayed at this hotel one time prior to this incident and had an OK stay. I thought it would be a nice place to return to. I am sad I am now writing my first bad review of a property to warn others not to fall into whatever trap they are setting there. My advice is Hotel Art Marmorata- this is where we rebooked our other nights and my family loved it.

I stayed at Botanico for five nights in June, and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel is stunning, with breathtaking views, friendly and welcoming staff and beautiful, comfortable rooms. All of the staff work super hard and I really must mention the porters, who gladly lugged our heavy suitcases up c.100 steps in 30+ degree heat! It’s not strictly on the beachfront, as it’s high up and accessed via a funicular plus approx 100 steps so I’d not recommend it for accessibility however, in my opinion the steps are worth it for the spectacular views across the Amalfi coast. It’s true that the hotel is in need of a little maintenance such as repairing the wooden decking around the pool area and the door to our bathroom in our room didn’t close. However, I’ve already booked to return later in the year so safe to say the views, service, food and overall experience more than makes up for this! The grounds are beautiful, with the famous cactus garden and so much jasmine, which smells amazing. The breakfast which was included with the room was amazing, an extensive buffet of fresh fruits, cereal, cheese, ham, bread, smoked salmon, and no less than 15 or so cooked dishes including eggs. roasted vegetables, local dishes etc. Overall, the food at Botanico is amazing. The freshly made pizzas are great value and the lobster pasta was delicious! For me, Hotel Botanico is a true slice of paradise and I’m already counting down to my next visit 💚🤍❤️

We arrived at this Hotel for a 3 day anniversary stay having stayed 5 nights at the gorgeous Hotel Corolla Sorrento. The location is unusual - we were told it was beachside but in fact it is someway from the beach and accessed through what looked like a housing estate. A friendly porter arrived who helped us with two heavy bags and took us up the lift and then told us there were 100 further steps to reception. No problem for us as we are fit but something you really need to know if you finding climbing stairs in heat. Whilst waiting to check in at 2pm we had a Club Sandwich at the pool bar - all a bit odd as we were given a tuna and chicken salad sandwich from the barman who had to be told what a Club Sandwich was with sad browning lettuce that had seen better days. We then went to the pool that was surrounded with broken splintered wood and weeds infesting the patio area - absolutely no care and attention has been given to the safety of guests and the place looked sad and unloved. The disinterested pool attendant was chatting to a couple of local mates and eventually came to give us towels. Our room was pleasant but the outside balcony area full of dead plants, untidy with battered old garden furniture. My wife an d I agreed if we had paid £100 we would be very disappointed - having paid £250 it was a disgraceful rip off. Our travel agent managed to get us back to Sorrento and in fairness to the Hotel Manager and Receptionist, they both could not do more to help us. We felt so sorry for them - this is billed as a 5 star hotel that was tired old, and extremely shabby around the pool and 2 star at best. If you want a very expensive two star hotel with a shabby pool area 500m from the sea - this is the place for you . Shame on the owner for putting the staff in an impossible position by marketing this as a 4/5 start hotel and then leaving them to deal with no doubt countless unhappy customers.

This was my 2nd time visiting this hotel because we had such a great experience the first time. We were as equally impressed this stay. The entire hotel staff is so helpful, professional, and friendly. Domenico, the GM, greeted us and took us on tour of the gardens and to the top of the lemon orchard. He also arranged for a water taxi, private shuttle and helped with other special accommodations-we had a group of 15 people and 8 rooms. And how about Antonio carrying 30 bags and helping with other requests. The entire staff was incredible. And the view can’t be beat-one of the best views on the Amalfi Coast and in the world! Highly recommend it and we will be back!
