Our family spent a week in the summer and we were satisfied despite a few remarks. The booking went well. The e-mail response was quick and accurate. On the other hand, the manager/owner acted surprised upon the arrival that we came with three instead of two children (well, I had my reservation e-mails saved:). Second, a lady from the hotel called a month before our arrival, apologised and asked if we could spend a first night in two separate rooms instead of a reserved suite. Apparently, they experienced a lot of internal chaos concerning the booking:) But these were minor problems. The rooms and the bathroom were clean and adequately equipped. They were not brand-new but they matched the price. The chambermaid did their job well and even arranged our children' soft toys:) We usually prefer half board. The breakfast offer was moderately rich and quite corresponded to this type of hotel. For the dinner, you could choose between a few starters and main dishes and a dessert. As for the quantity, our younger children were satisfied with the starter (usually some kind of pasta) and skipped the main course. You had to buy drinks and these could have definitely cost less but, hey, you are on the holiday. All in all, we liked the food. The hotel was located a few hundred meters from the beach. The reservation does not include a place on the beach but there is a swimming pool with beach chairs and parasols which is, in my opinion, an adequate compensation. The hotel supposedly offered bikes as well but we did not try them. To be honest, I cannot compare prices of hotels in Italy from my own experience but the whole offer seemed like a good value for the money. If we wanted to spend another summer in Lignano, we could choose Old River again.

Small hotel with some 50 rooms situated near the sea, about 200m from the beach, in a nice quiet area. There is a small children playground in front of the hotel, next to the hotel pool. Hotel guests are mostly Czech/ Italian, most of them with small children. Services, food and cleanliness are equal to hotel price which was 45 Euro per night per person. Rooms are well kept, with clean sheets/ towels every day. We had breakfasts and dinners included in the price - food is very similar every day, dinners are in Italian "pasta", "risotto" style with good selection of fruits and vegetables, but again don't expect miracles for 45 Euros. For ice cream lovers there is an ice cream for free during the day, but is considerably worse than one in private "Gelaterias". Overall I can recommend the hotel to others, if you have small kids, plan to spend most of the time outside and are tight on budget, this is a place to go: you get good value for your money.

We recently spent a week here as a family and the hotel didn't let us down. The manager is very welcoming and always keen to help and tried to do everything he could to make our holiday feel special. His staff were extremely helpful and the service was perfect especially with our waitress speaking English to us. The swimming pool is a good size and very clean and children are allowed to use inflatables etc. Rooms basic but very nice, cleaned to a very good standard everyday. Food was very nice, three courses twice a day. Air conditioning and bicycles free with baby seats which was excellent. It is perfectly placed as the beach is a short walk away and the town is 25min bike ride or a 10min bus ride away. We would definately come back and hopefully will come again. Defo recommend 10/10!!!!!!!!!

We spent 1 week in this nice hotel. The accomodation is rather simple, but it was fine for us. The staff were very kind and helpfull. Aircondition and swimming pool were free, you can also take bicycles with baby seats for free. There is also a small playground for children. The sea is 5 minutes walking. The area is very calm, the pizza restaurant and supermarket is very close. But the best was the food in the hotel. We chose full board and all meals were excellent. I recommend this hotel mainly to families with children.
