    Good. We enjoyed our stay!
Just stayed at the Poiano for a week and we’ve given it a Trip Advisor 5*. From our perspective it’s a 4.5 but 4* feels mean given how good the place is. So why a 4.5*. Minor things really. The food whilst good could have been a little fresher on occasion, there could be more for vegetarians, although staff were helpful and accommodating and as I don’t drink alcohol, a couple of non alcoholic beers rather than poor old Becks Blue would have been appreciated. Small stuff really but helps make the difference. They did have decaf coffee which was appreciated 👍 So on to the good stuff. - Lovely clean rooms. Cleaned and made up daily. - Helpful staff - Reasonable prices - Massive pool - Good food and plenty of it. You won’t starve. The resort is on a hill and there are steps. We read the reviews and took small cases as inevitably I’m the one lugging the big case. Fortunately we were in the main building with a lift but be prepared and pack accordingly. Being on a hill you do get a lovely view of the lake and the restaurant and bar overlook the view of the lake and you can watch the sun go down over a drink and each night a singer or musician. It’s fairly gentle entertainment, so expect more Radio 2 than your local nightclub. Good for a relaxed evening. We were half board. Food arrangements are a buffet breakfast with the usual fayre but it’s Italian so don’t expect ‘English’ bacon and Yorkshire tea. There are plenty of breads, fruit, ham, cheese, bacon, eggs, cake, pastries etc. Evenings, aside from one day is served to your table from a menu with a choice of 5 items, 3 of which change daily. Some were a little strange to my ‘English’ tastes however it’s a good chance to give something a go as there are 2 served courses plus a buffet desert and a salad bar to choose from. As I said, you won’t starve! Drinks get put on your room and signed for so you don’t need to carry cash. The resort hosts a lot of sports and also serves the local area so there is a swimming team that train daily in the pool meaning that half the pool is allocated to them from about 4pm. Some people seem to moan about this but it’s no issue really. Also no inflatables. Good in my opinion. You can play ball games and some are hosted by the hotel but lilos need to stay out of the pool. We didn’t see any signs to not take your own drinks we we did on a couple of days. Garda is just under 2 miles away. A nice walk at the right time of day but it is a gentle slope uphill on the way back so plan appropriately. The best route I found is in my pictures. Look out for a vineyard and a park. Google maps is your friend. The free shuttle bus runs every 30 mins, holds 8 and at peak times there are 2 buses. You may have to wait for the next one (or for them to go and come back) but we never waited more than 20 mins. There is shade to wait and a cafe at the bus station where you get dropped off/picked up. Garda itself is lovely with many places to eat right by the water and not too expensive either given the location. Pizza €10, Beer €5. So UK prices, perhaps a little cheaper and with that lovely view. If you want to swim the lake you can walk south towards Bardolino or just north of where the ferry port is in Garda there is a small Lida (beach) and a cafe. This is a useful location to bathe and have a drink afterwards. The toilets here are public and a little grim but I’ve been in worse! We did some trips and realised that Garda is a decent location to get places either by boat or coach due to being central. Would I recommend this. Yes, just consider the location as it’s not in the centre of Garda.

    Another wonderful holiday at Poiano
This was the second year coming back to the Poiano. Yes, the hotel is a little dated but the view and the pool area more than make up for this. Breakfast was a bit of a battle at times this year, but understandable given the Covid situation. Go for the early breakfast to avoid queues for coffees. We didn't eat here in the evenings but made use of the lovely restaurants and the free shuttle into Garda. Reserving of sunbeds by some of our European friends is nowhere near as bad we've experienced elsewhere, but does happen. It would help if the hotel removed towels from any sunbeds not used after 30mins. Problem solved. Don't let this put you off this resort however. Bar prices had increased since last year and 6 Euros for a beer from the pool bar seemed a little excessive. However, still a great hotel and would definitely recommend.

    Lovely location
Firstly the positives of the resort - the location is stunning, set part way up a hill with a gorgeous view down over the lake. It's about 25 minutes walk into Garda which is easy enough and there is a shuttle bus available at various points through the day (although it only seats 8 people so there were regularly people being left behind). My wife absolutely loved the outdoor pool and the staff manning it were very pleasant and helpful. Our apartment was spacious and comfortable, very quiet and it was lovely to be able to sit outside and eat looking over the lake. On the negative side, whilst I appreciate it's self catering, I was a bit surprised by just how little you are provided. I can deal with not being provided tea and coffee, I can deal with not being given basic toiletries (although even the most budget places usually at least have some shower gel and hand soap) but it felt particularly stingy to threaten a 80 Euro fine for not washing the dishes and then not provide anything to wash up with - no flannels, towels, liquid, anything. On a minor point too, our apartment was situated right at the highest point of the resort, up either a steep hill or a lot of steps. This was fine for us as we appreciated the seclusion but it wasn't mentioned in the booking so if we had had any sort of mobility issues we'd have been in trouble.

Would highly recommend the hotel & area. Resort is lovely, with stunning views of the lake & mountains. The staff are excellent, very accommodating & friendly. Food was very good. We stayed in an apartment which was clean & comfortable. We decided to hire a car which I highly recommend if you want to visit various towns surrounding the lake. We visited lake garda, lake Iseo & lake como which we very easy to get too from the resort. Overall a lovely peaceful & relaxing resort, which we will definitely visit again.

Amazing place - full of Italian charm. We were apprehensive about this resort before leaving UK after reading reviews. However, I think we have been to a different hotel compared to some. What an amazing place! From our arrival, all staff members showed above and beyond outstanding service. The hotel has Italian charm and amazingly it is is not bowing down to pressure to be the usual Brits abroad accommodation! From the surroundings, furniture, food and welcome. We stayed half board in the hotel and we couldn’t fault anything. The rooms were serviced daily with regular towel and bedding changes. Everything was spotless. The restaurant staff were outstanding with their greetings and service. The food was excellent and our two teenagers tried and enjoyed lots of Mediterranean dishes. The Grand buffets were fantastic with lots of choice of sea food, meat and vegetable dishes. As for the shuttle bus - we had no issues and always managed to catch a bus without long waits (this was at peak times). We called the hotel reception on one occasion to say that there were a few people waiting and two buses were sent. The drivers were so helpful and friendly. Reception - when we arrived they couldn’t do enough to help and had someone present who was fluent in English. During our stay we have had a couple of queries, which were dealt with in a friendly and professional manner. The overall grounds, pool area and facilities are fantastic and the complex has an Italian feel. It is on a hill, however this provides outstanding views of the lake and amazing sunsets. The entertainment on an evening, sets the scene for a relaxing evening. Jet 2 Rep - was helpful and very knowledgeable. We booked trips to Verona and Venice through her, which were brilliant. If you are wanting a typical ‘British/Spanish’ holiday, this is not the place to book. However, if you want a holiday full of traditional Italian charm, this is the place for you. Would we return - most definitely!!!!

I had a fantastic time at Lake Garda and was so glad I chose the Poiano Resort for a base. The resort is situated away from the hustle and bustle of the main town which made it the perfect escape after a busy day exploring the lake, and the surrounding views and tranquillity perfect for a 'day off' to lounge by the pool, or play some sport. If you're the type of person who likes to spend as little time as possible in the hotel on your holiday, then this isn't the place for you. This hotel is perfect for those who want to make full use of the facilities, which there are an abundance of. Firstly, let's look at the pros of this hotel - - The resort grounds and surrounding areas look beautiful, perfect views for those Instagram snaps. -Our room was in the main building and had excellent panoramic views over towards the lake. It also allowed us to enjoy the evening entertainment from the comfort of our balcony. -The sporting facilities were very very good. We booked tennis for one morning and had a fun time, with someone always on hand to help with access, equipment etc. There was a small charge per hour which was slightly disappointing as I'm used to this being included in other resorts. But it was worth it. - Pool area is very large so it never feels crowded and there's always enough sunbeds for your preferred location. The pool 'gazebo' bar had a wide variety of drinks food and snacks. The pricing of drink is very reasonable for the area. I felt like I was getting a good deal on the drinks. - Evening bar had a huge list of cocktails. Quality was hit and miss though depending on who was making them. Bar waiters were very efficient. - Most of the evening meals were decent, although slightly on the salty side. The deserts were your typical all inclusive 'mini' cakes and fruit selections. Bathroom was modern with good quality water which we felt safe drinking. Aircon was actually easy to use and worked great. - There was an amazing pizzeria at the bottom of the hill near the entrance, although not part of the resort, it was useful for lunches. - We travelled with TUI and the coach transfers dropped off and picked up directly from reception which saved us the hill journey. Excursions however picked up from the bottom of the hill at the gate. There were however a couple of negatives worth pointing out - - The entire resort, especially the rooms, could do with a deep clean as the standard is completely unacceptable and is a serious issue. The sunbeds and balcony furniture had thick black grime. This was very shocking. - The shuttle bus was useful for getting to and from garda, but the bus really needs to be bigger. It only has 8 seat capacity which made for some awkward situations with people trying to remember who was queueing first, this caused some upset with guests. There's also no shade when waiting in garda to come back which isn't nice after a tiring day exploring. - Very strange music during the night (midnight to 7am). It was like calming sleeping music, not quite sure where it was coming from, but very bizarre. Overall this resort is fantastic and I'd recommend it fully. Hopefully they can fix the cleaning issue and shuttle bus situation for it to be a 5/5.

Overall a good stay. Clean rooms, good bathroom facilities. Friendly staff, I found that Alessia was particularly helpful and spoke great English. She was even happy to open up the shop so I could buy water (which is a lot cheaper than buying at the bar and shop normally only open between 8-10 in the morning). People seemed to enjoy the Pool games and fitness regime. If like me you enjoy your wine, its far cheaper to buy from the shop and keep in your fridge, so bring a corkscrew. Only 2 real things unimpressed with. We don't tend to have breakfast as a family, but one morning I approached the suited guy who lets people in for breakfast to ask if i could grab a banana. I was told 'we are not a takeaway sir'. Fair enough then. Also, I will now always take with a pinch of salt when I see the words 'Free shuttle service' on a hotel advert. Because when you have an 8 seater mini bus and 20 mixed European people waiting, you might not be getting a lift to town for some time. They did have more than 1 minibus, but rarely did I see them using both. In fact one day we paid for a taxi back, rather than wait a long time, which was 15 euro, but prompt, phone numbers on the sign near the drop off point.

Overall we had a great stay. We’d mirror what other reviewers have said: Location We loved the location - the hotel is set in large grounds, in a quiet area with amazing views of the lakes. It was no trouble getting the shuttle bus when we wanted to go into Garda. Food We loved the setting of the restaurant, with its views. The general atmosphere of the evening meals made for a lovely dining experience. We were half board and it was mostly great. They offer the usual breakfast fare of a good quality. The pasta first courses of the evening meals were delicious and there was a fresh salad bar. Mains were good. Deserts were mass produced, which was a slight letdown after the rest of the freshly prepared food. But there was always fresh fruit instead. The allergens were clearly shown on the menus - a great help as our kids are lactose intolerant. Booking times for meals and pre ordering from the menus didn’t bother us - this helps with the efficiency of serving all the guests. Service We found the service to be excellent. The waiters and front of house staff were friendly and very attentive. The service at the front desk was also excellent. We realised when we were on a coach to Venice that our son had left his bag at the bottom entrance. The staff went straight away to get it and hold it in reception. Facilities Yes the rooms and some areas are dated. But the bathroom was modern and we found the beds to be very comfortable. A highlight was the availability of the sun loungers. Yes they were a bit hard but what a joy to arrive at the pool at any time of day to find them in plentiful supply. The downside was the acoustics in the rooms - it’s quite noisy. Thankfully I’d brought earplugs with me. Overall excellent. Not quite a 5 star mostly for to the acoustics and room decor.

I guess this has been rated s four star hotel because it has a pool, spa, golf course etc. take those away and it’s a three. The bedrooms in the main hotel are basic (not what you see in the hotel photos) although the bathroom is good. Nice clean sheets and duvets on the bed. The balcony furniture is a plastic table and two plastic chairs. Some rooms have a spectacular view of the lake, some don’t. My balcony door was so heavy and stiff it was really difficult to open and close. The TV remote did not work so I had to ask for a replacement. The pool is Olympic size with plenty of sun beds. However they are filthy and uncomfortable and could do with a mattress on each. Towels are available by the pool but you have to keep them for the duration of your stay otherwise pay 2 euros for s new one. Breakfast is the usual continental plus bacon, eggs, pancakes etc. our first night we had a buffet T which was very good. However after that it was a menu with three choices for started and main which I have to admit when they were served they were not good. We were able to help ourselves to the salad bar. Drinks are cheap; Aperol Spritz at the pool bar was only 4 euros! Waiting staff are polite however we witnessed one of the bar staff shouting at a colleague one night; unprofessional. Reception staff are not very friendly. The housekeepers are friendly and say hello when you pass them. The hotel overlooks the lake and it’s s 40 minute leisurely walk from the hotel to Garda (1.9 miles). The return journey is slightly uphill but not a problem. There is a shuttle bus at the hotel which takes you to and from Garda if you don’t fancy the walk.

I have rated it 4 but I would say 4.5 would be closer as the only two things I would mark this hotel down on is our bed was so hard and uncomfortable to sleep at night that my back ached each morning (but I know a bed is personal preference)and the sun loungers have no padding so after a little while lying on them also became uncomfortable......that's really is the only bad points to our stay. Now for the good points, yes the hotel is on a slight incline but the views are so beautiful it's worth it, we found the back roads down to garda was lot easier to walk, this way it wasn't hilly.... reception staff on arrival very pleasant they apologised that our room wasn't ready but I was expecting this as we arrived late morning, we only had to wait 1hr for it to be available so this gave us time to have a little walk around the complex. Bar staff pleasant and very quick at serving. We stopped half board o and evening we were shown to our table at breakfast we could choose where to sit for us the meals were exceptional, Al a carte all the way, something to eat even for the fussiest of eaters, I would just go back there for the food, big thumbs up to the chefs, and to the waiting staff. Hotel very clean, some other reviews say dated but personally I just think it's the Italian decor that they prefer. Pool opens at 9sm no need to reserve beds as there is always plenty, this was a welcomed break as previously on holiday iv had to get up at 6am to reserve which I hate as then it's not a holiday. We absolutely loved our family holiday and would most definitely return....thanks you to all the staff ❤️

I agree with another event reviewer that it’s probably a 4.5 rather than a five. Let’s try and help with the main questions we got from others staying, to put into perspective we came with our six year and two teen children. Location- yes it up a hill, but if you want to sunbathe and/or sit out with a beer with a great view of the lake below the hill is worth it. If you prefer lakeside, no hills don’t. Get about the resort, we were in the appartments, there were steps up to the hotel and the pool but they were easily manageable. If I had a push chair it would be trickier, so depends how much you want that view. The apartment we were on the 2nd floor no balcony but there were tables and chairs laid outside if we wanted to sit there. Cooking facilities were fine a hob, micro wave and toaster- we managed to make own breakfast, packed lunches and pasta for evening meal when we stayed in. The apartment was large, cool and beds very comfortable. Shopping- two supermarkets, both on the shuttle bus route, both cover all the essentials we needed, pasta, cereals, breads, wine , beer, fresh fruit, etc. It was no hassle without a car. The shop on site yes is very limited and only took cash. The pool- it was fairly deep all across, our six year old is learning to swim so needed armbands. It was cold, but on hot days it was ideal. There were plenty of Sun loungers, no reserving and no need to reserve. To escape the noise of the pool you could go on a level above the pool which was great for sunbathing quietly with those breathtaking views. The bar/restaurant- we didn’t use as there were so many places to eat and drink in Garda or a short walk from the resort. We always got the last bus back and had beers in the apartment. La Lanterna is a must visit and very reasonable. And 88TRE was a must visit if you wanted to watch English sport and grab a great burger and great a great draft beer. Sports-excellent, our youngest loving going down the pitch and joining in the communal matches that seemed to take place all day and night. The driving range was well maintained. We didn’t play tennis because of paying an additional fee which seemed excessive. The shuttle- a great idea, five minutes to Garda, easy to catch we never waited more than two shuttles and never more than 15 minutes. The night driver was brilliant. Always made sure you got picked up, really friendly and a great character. The day driver - well he gave us awful first and last impressions of the resort by on two occasions lying he could not take our cases with him. When we were leaving and had tight connections to make, having been assured by reception he’d take our cases, he refused, then told us to wait by the other vehicle before driving off and leaving us. To go to the resort we incurred an unnecessary taxi fee as a result. Car hire- we debated if we needed a car to get around , we didn’t. The shuttle was great and local buses serviced all our transport needs for 3 Euros a trip. It was easier getting the bus to Bardalino and Movieland where we visited than having a car. We flew in from Venice and getting a train to Verona and then a bus to Garda was simple and way cheaper than hiring. So one member of staff aside, we were really pleased with our visit and really glad we went out a visited the local restaurants and bars
