The Agriturismo is part of the Signa – Coadi farm that has been owned by the same family since the middle of the Nineteenth century. It presently consists of about 30 hectares of cultivated land: part cereal production, part orchard, and part vegetable garden. The name of the farmstay comes from the original use of the building: a simple “casella” (shed) used to store the hay and the tools. Today, completely renovated respecting the rural style of the area, its six rooms are able to host those who would like to visit the town of Ferrara while staying in the natural “Ferrarese” countryside. Respect for the environment has been a key element in both the design of the plants (solar panels, biophytodepuration), and the fittings (water flow reducers, energy-saving lamps...) allowing the complex to be registered under the Ecolabel of Legambiente Tourism (an Italian, not-for-profit association for the safeguarding and correct management of the environment). The interiors enjoy a warm and welcoming ambience re-creating the original atmosphere of a country home furbished with antique pieces imbued with the history of several generations. On the ground floor, in addition to the breakfast room, the guests can enjoy an area perfectly suited for reading and conversation. Of special note is the setting of the dinner tables, each boasting a different vintage crockery set. Still on the ground floor, one can find the beautiful “White and Blue” room, specially designed for the needs of less able guests. The other five rooms are located on the first floor: the “Green” room, a suite for families sleeping up to four people; the “Blue” and the “Pink” rooms, each with either a double bed or twin beds; the “Yellow” room, hosting a king single bed ; the "Red room" a simple and elegant single room. The linen bedsheets of Grandma and the towels of loom-made canvas belonging to the family’s heirlooms reveal the love for traditions and bring one back to the past. All rooms have an ensuite bathroom with shower and independent heating. At just 5 Km from Ferrara city centre, the farmstay is located in the Porotto village. Driving by car, from the Autostrada A13 freeway take the Ferrara Nord exit. Follow the signs for the city centre (“Centro Città”) until the 1st traffic light, where your should turn right following the sign for Modena. Pass the Mizzana and Cassana suburbs, and at the roundabout follow directions to “Cento-Modena”. 200 metres past the traffic light, turn right into “Via A. Talassi” street. The first gravel road on your right will take you to the “Agriturismo Alla Casella” farmstay. A city bus stops at about four-hundred meters from the farmstay for your convenience, and a reserved cycling way links you directly with the city centre.

Alla Casella is the perfect location to base yourself if you want to be near Ferrara. The women who run this farmstay were very welcoming and ready to help with anything we needed. The name of the town Porotto means Po (the river Po) broken (rotto), because at one time this area was all water and marshes before it was drained and developed into farmland.

Pro: spacious, well-lit room (Rosa) and bathroom with large shower cabin, period furniture and tiny fridge in room; decent Wi-fi. Dogs welcome.
Con: modest breakfast offering (coffee, homemade cake, toast) that might not cut it for those who like to start the day with a huge morning meal.
