Splendid small resort located on a picturesque coastline near Cefalu. The pavilions are comfortable with all (and even more) equipments likely to make the stay most remarkable. Excellent management and services, quality of food VERY GOOD, number of activities and excursions available… ALL IN ALL: SUPERB AND ABSOLUTELY TO BE RECOMMANDED !
I stayed at the Calanica for a week in early October 2020 with my husband and two boys, fourteen and six years of age. What a wonderful place! The hotel is located above a tiny bay that hotel guests have exclusively to themselves. The bungalows are set on a hillside above the sea. The view is breathtaking! Room: we had a junior suite with a double bed and a convertible sofa that turned into a bunk bed. Our boys thought that was very cool. The room was spacious, well equipped and stylishly decorated. There was even a little kitchenette, though it lacked a tea/coffee maker. There was a little terrace with chairs and a table as well were we liked to sit and enjoy the view. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. Grounds: the grounds are pretty and well-kept. The pool is big and there were plenty of sun beds, but the water was quite cold. There is a tennis court as well. Beach: there are two sun decks and one can access the sea from one of them. This is easier than it looks. We swam in the sea every day, even when the surf was strong. The beach is rocky, but the ocean floor becomes sandy a few steps beyond the water line. I do recommend water shoes, though. It is best to swim to the left of the big rock, as there are no rocks in the water there. The water was lovely, clear, and warm. Food: we only had breakfast at the hotel. The food was very good. There was a buffet with bread, cheese, cold cuts, jam, pastries and cakes, fruit, cereals, yoghurt and one could order eggs to taste. The coffee was excellent! Staff: The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We arrived very late at about 1 a.m., but a very nice man was waiting for us, explained all the facilities to us and showed us to our room. So nice! All in all, our stay was excellent and I warmly recommend this hotel.…
This truly is a great and relaxing resort. The staff were very friendly, especially during checkin and check out. It is beautifully layed out with about 25 bungalows on a hill. They have two lounge areas with access to the sea. Rooms were clean and breakfast is very good. Its about a 30 minute walk to Cevalu, along the beach and boulevard. Taxi to the city is 12 euro flat rate (one way). They also have a swimming pool, which is located outside of the resort. A few minor things for improvement: - they should not allow people reserving sunbeds, almost all beds are being reserved at 9 in the morning. - they have a beach bar which is opened all day, but there is no staff to help you - breakfast is untill 09.30, which is quite early if you are on a holiday
Stayed for four nights in this lovely resort. Everything was perfect. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to help out. It was a great place for a relaxing holiday. The bungalows are all sea view. It is spacious and comfortable for a family of three. The view is spectacular. It’s a must to see the sunset. The beach area is very quiet and we almost had it for ourselves. The crystal clear sea was amazing and inviting. Breakfast was good with a good variety. Lunch and dinner was also good. We felt very safe as all staff and hotel regulations obeyed social distancing which was very important to us during this time. Highly recommend this lovely hotel! Will definitely be back.
This is a wonderful little gem of a hotel. Our family of four fit comfortably in our bungalow & enjoyed our own version of Tiny House Nation! Bungalow was clean and AC worked great! Breakfast was a great spread & the staff was wonderful with our small kids. The pool was great & we had it to ourselves most of the time. Highly recommend this resort!
Booked with TUI and arrived into Catania airport mid-morning, directed to coach for the 2.5 hour transfer to the Calanica. The hotel complex is on the side of a fairly steep hill so the coach dropped us off at the petrol station on the main road and we were then collected by the hotel minibus. Check-in was quick and easy, bags whisked away, info provided for meals and facilities etc. Beach bungalows are well equipped, clean and comfortable, grounds well maintained and the view fantastic. Our TUI rep Lauren arrived during the evening for a 'Welcome Meeting' and provided details of various excursions - we decided that we could not pass up the opportunity to go to Mount Etna - and lots of local information. Calanica is around 30 minutes walk from Cefalu town and is accessed either by the main road or a very pleasant walk along the beach. The very dominant La Rocca (the limestone monolith overlooking Cefalu) was an inviting challenge on a warm day - the climb took us nearly two hours but was well worth it. Cefalu Old Town is very pretty with many cobbled streets, small shops, restaurants and bars etc. The Cathedral is aslo worth a visit and we discovered an interesting muesum in one of the back streets. We stayed half-board - enjoying a vast choice of fare at breakfast time (incidentally, never ask a Sicilian chef for an omelette with 'everything in it' unless you are prepared for exactly that!) and evening meals were chosen from a menu supplied each morning. Guests were multi-cultural with a mix of Brits, Germans, French and Italians during our stay. The outdoor pool was rather chilly as expected so we swam instead in the warmer sea - shoes are required on the beach and the sea can be quite 'lively'. Our trip to Etna proved to be the highlight of our holiday. Up at 6.30am for a three hour coach ride to Etna Village at 1900m then a cable car to 2500m followed by a bouncy ride in a Unimog to 2900m for a walk around the crater with a volcanologist. Etna decided to chuck out a large black ash cloud while we were at the summit so visability was brief for a time and we returned to the cable car looking like coal miners. Standing above the clouds in such a remarkable terrain is a truly fabulous experience and something we will not forget. Our stay at the Calanica was great from start to finish to the extent that we had hoped that Etna might extend our stay by continuing to delay / cancel flights from Catania but alas, the wind changed direction and we were able to leave as planned.…
Very friendly staff and always willing to help. You can walk into town which we think is better then taken a car. Good food and nice views of the water. Rooms are unique and seperate from each other. The prices was very reasonable for the location. Nice get away.
If we can we will come back for sure. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Really nice place for romantic vacation. We ate dinner couple of times and it was good. Little bit pricey though. They have awesome house Vine.
This hotel is a 40 minute walk away from Cefalù but that is a great thing for us. It is quiet but sat on a hilltop overlooking the sea with its own private beach. A super place to relax and unwind. The views are magnificent and we wouldn’t hesitate to return. Cefalù old town is lovely, albeit too busy in the Summer months. It is full of mostly Italian tourists which we loved as we didn’t want a home from home. The touristy part with most of the other hotels was too loud and busy for us so it nice to go for a few hours then return to the beautiful Calanica. The main restaurant was a bit too formal for us but there is a pizzeria there and a restaurant called Oktoberfest a few minutes walk away for a more relaxed dining experience. Breakfast was good - cheeses, meats, breads, yoghurts, pastries and omelettes. Plenty to eat. I would recommend this hotel to anyone if they want a chilled holiday. If you want to be in the middle of it all with plenty of nightlife then choose elsewhere.…
This is in a quiet part of Cefalù but next door to Club Med. as the reviews say it is on the hillside and many many steps and slopes. But it is worth it for a difference. The accommodation is in single ‘hut’ type rooms with shower and seating areas and with all mod cons including air con! The place is kept very well with fantastic staff. The only negative is the food. It’s too variable from day to day - even on one occasion a cheese sandwich or dinner! Make sure you have mosquito repellent and beach shoes. We walked the 30-40 min into town on 4 occasions-there’s some great authentic places there.
