Lunch at the Antica Dogano was the absolute highlight of our trip to Venice, this gem of a restaurant booked for us by Roberto our concierge and well off the “tourist track” gave us a warm welcome from the owner and the recommendation of an aperol spritzer as an aperitif (utterly delicious) while we perused the small but surprising menu .. leek and potato pie is not often found on Italian or Venetian menus !! My ravioli starter was superb, delicious light freshly made pasta in a rich beautiful sauce but totally upstaged by my wife’s leek and potato pie ...a delicious Michelin standard mousse beautiful presented with a celeriac purée and stunning Parmesan crisp. Our Main course was a salt baked sea bass ... beautiful fresh fish perfectly cooked and mouth watering light.. Dessert for me was amaretto parfait...simply gorgeous and for my wife a Vodka Limon sorbet refreshing and beautifully balanced flavours ..this was accompanied by a surprise chocolate and cream happy birthday plate which was a total surprise as they had been phoned by Roberto to tell them it was my wife’s birthday.. we had a lovely bottle of Gavi Di Gavi to accompany the meal. This was not only the best food we have eaten in a very long time (including many Michelin restaurants) but also incredibly good value served by a smiling friendly owner and her small team. Thank you for a fabulous treat

Excellent food and wines - top service ! Fantastic to travel on to Venice. The German / Italian couple who run this jewel are very kind hosts and top professionals. We really enjoyed our stay there! The food and wine selection is of high quality ! Yes, they should have a Michelin star.

For years we were told to come to this restaurant for dinner and enjoy the sunset over the lagoon. This year, we finally did it and we were really glad we did. It does take some time to get here but you will be rewarded with the most amazing sunset. I can't describe it and the many photos we took barely captured that time. It has to be experienced in person. The food at this restaurant was very good - we had grilled shellfish and a plate of raw seafood for appetisers and then the salt baked orata. Service was warm and friendly. All in all, a great experience.

After being so impressed with lunch at this enchanting restaurant last year, I organised to come back to celebrate my 40th birthday here with a group of friends. The owners could not have been more accommodating organising an aperitif and canapé for us to enjoy while we watched the sublime sunset. We were then treated to one of the best meals I have had with gorgeous fresh seafood being the star of the show. Staff are courteous, knowledgeable and very passionate about guiding their customers through the wine and food choices. This, along with the best birthday cake I have ever had in my life, created such a special unique birthday that will never be forgotten, or bettered! Thank you Antica Dogana x

Antica Dogana is not a Trattoria, its not a Pizzeria, it‘s not some tourist attraction! Antica Dogana, is without exaggeration one of the finest restaurants in Italy. No, not in Italy, in Europe! Therefore, before you go there, please do realise that you are going to a FINE restaurant, a real „insider-tip“... The quality of the food is outstanding. The „crudo“ (raw fish) is super fresh, always beautifully and deliciously prepared! The seafood risotto is a delight, the oysters, the lobsters, everything is super fresh and masterfully prepared from scratch! The Frittura is the best in the whole area and offers a huge variety of different fish and crustaceans. Yes, it isn‘t cheap! But it is worth every penny, and actually the quality of food is that and even better than most restaurants in Venice which charge double! Here you will NOT find snobby and typically impolite waiters, here you will be serviced by people who do their best to make your dining experience a true enjoyment! And, on top of the great food and service you will be in a magical and historical place!
