We have been going to Nice once a year for probably 15 years and part of the treat is a meal at the Negresco. This year we booked for the Rotonde restaurant but have also eaten at the Chantecler in the past. Great to see the Rotonde completely transformed with the new renovation but felt some nostalgia for the carousel horses going up and down on the hour! We ordered glasses of champagne and a 50cl bottle of wine with the Coup de Coeur Menu. After a few minutes we were advised by the waiter that there were no 50cl bottles but we could have 3 glasses at the same price. Should it have been 4 glasses? Anyway, we didn't even get 3. The starter and desserts were excellent but oh what a disaster the main course of grilled tuna with aubergine was. The tuna was pale creamy colour, raw and with gristle and the aubergine so salty it was inedible. We would expect tuna to be served under cooked but this was described as grilled, not raw and certainly was not sushi quality. We both ate one small mouthful of each and had to leave the remainder. The waiter said he would speak to the chef. At no time did a senior person come to speak with us and no, I did not ask for a reduction in the bill; not my style but it is so disappoints that such a prestigious restaurant can treat diners so badly. Needless to say, we will not be returning and in the past have highly recommended the restaurant to friends visiting Nice. Unfortunately in the future we will be recounting our experience.

The rooms felt very unclean, the drainpipes smelled horribly from time to time. The breakfast contained basically only desserts. The waterpressure in the shower was very weak and the parking was pretty far from the hotel. But, location was great, close to the beach.

The 5-star hotel Le Negresco is perhaps the best known landmark on Nice's legendary Promenade des Anglais, the road and walk-way cradling the turquoise waters of the Baie des Anges. What may be less known is that during the Hotel's renovation, a remarkable "pop up" restaurant has been set up off the lobby rotunda. Overseen by executive chef Virginie Basselot, Le 37 Pop is simply great! Try the menu nicoise, authentic dishes in the Nice style. The beef daube with homemade parmesan tagliatelle and panisse "frites" were the best we ever had in years of living in Nice. The special was truly unique, cod with fennel, wrapped in thick parma ham with a sun dried tomato in the center. Wow! No less than four people served us during the meal and everyone was friendly, funny and professional. Because of an ongoing event in the lobby, just for today the Le 37 Pop was moved to the ornate "Versailles" room which added immensely to a special experience. We're not sure how long Le 37 Pop will be around (eventually the renovations will be finished) so check it out while you can!

Considering the rate you pay, this is not too bad. However this is not a 4 star hotel. Room is very, very basic and old Our room had joining doors with the room next door and the people were noisy. Bathroom was full of dust. Shower is in the bath. I am disappointed that I forgot to take a photo of the bathroom and room. We had a balcony which had a partial view of the beach, which was nice. Staff was extremely friendly, breakfast is like an high tea and of good quality. The hotel is situated almost on the beach and 2 roads away and walking distance to all restaurants and shops. It is about 5km walk from the Misano circuit. If not for the good breakfast, friendly staff and view of the beach, I would rate it 2 stars.
