Full disclosure we had a suite, so I don't know what the hotel rooms are like, but our suite was ginormous, amazing, and romantic. My one complaint would be the makeup mirror which was too low to use while standing and didn't come forward enough when sitting. I see people poking at the Fascistic architecture, well what can I say, I LOVE Fascistic architecture! It's an amazing building. It would be beneficial to get a map of how to get to all the various pools. We felt a wee bit dumb asking for the 3rd time where the outdoor pool is becasue well you'd think it would be obvious but after roaming outside we still couldn't find it lol. Service was very good. When we arrived we had an issue with our jacuzzi, but it was promptly handled. We also found ourselves hungry one afternoon when it was too late for lunch but too early for dinner. We asked the bar if they had food. They very apologetically said no but that they had chips. We said ok to the chips. Waiter comes back with a large crackers, cheese, meat, and olive tray. We loved it but were confused whether this is just not considered food for Italians or what. It definitely saved us from being hangry. The breakfast is very nice and the dining room is magnificent. We had dinner at the restaurant one evening and food was phenomenal. The beet risotto was amazing and I was skeptical about swordfish not liking it in the past, but who knew pistachios on it made it amazing. I'm going to go as far as to say it was the best meal I've had during my stay in Italy. The Sauna was so spacious and timing groups to use it separately was well organized by the lady who ran the spa. She was very nice and did her best to speak English which we appreciated. The town is super cute too. If you don't want to be in a parade of tourists in the larger cities come escape here.

A few things I loved in this hotel: - the many art deco details, original from 1938, which make the place unique (tip: visit is possible the "Padiglione delle Feste", by itself it is a sufficient reason to travel to the place) - The timeless relaxation while sipping a cocktail on the terrace of the bar - the whirlpools on the upper terrace, sunbathing and relaxing while enjoying a panorama which has nothing to envy to the more coveted neighbour, Tuscany - the Spa (which deserves a good couple of hours per day) - breakfast served in the room and enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the park Also, what is interesting are the many towns and interesting places you can visit with a short drive (or even a walk) and which I would have not expected. What I loved about the surroundings: - Wine tasting (Villa Bagnolo or Marta Valpiani are 5 min drive away, Nicolucci in Predappio and Fattoria Paradiso in Bertinoro are worth the extra 15 minutes on a car) - Oil tasting (La Pennita, 5 min drive, impressive, I took 5 liters with me) - As Romagna is the cradle of good food in Italy, good eating cannot be missed (Essentia, 100 meters from the hotel, or La Rosa Bianca, a few minutes away by car in Dovadola - during truffle season in fall, this place is simply phenomenal), or Ca del Be ("House of Drinking") in Bertinoro, for simple local food with amazing views as a side - Walking up to the castle of Castrocaro and enjoying the panorama - wandering in the small neighbouring village of Terra del Sole, built by the Medici family half a millennia ago (this land was actually part of Tuscany at the time) - Ravenna and its bizantine mosaics (not to be missed for a good day trip) - in the summer, the seaside is not too far away, 45 minutes would cover the distance (except on week-ends), and a good way to have a splash in the sea

The public spaces are nice but the sulf smell hits you in the face as you enter the building. The domain is very nice with a large park to walk through, however everything looks quite deserted: the minigolf, the outside pool, the playground for kids. The hotel looks like it went through some kind of renovation some years ago but with an awful taste, poor quality furniture (maybe the old one just restored...this would explain the odd smell like old in the rooms) The worst part is the spa area (and we chose this hotel for the spa), besides the very poor and arrogant attitude of the russian lady at the reception of the spa, the facilities are old, smelly, dirty, the lightning is poor maybe to prevent you from seeing the extent of disaster. Even the water machine was broken. The dry sauna smelt like dead body, no possibility to add water as there was no vessel with water inside. Awful experience, we even left a day earlier with no money back for the last night as we booked a non refundable rate... The lady who checked us in was nice and profi, but the orher receptionists we interacted with during our stay were not as guest oriented (to say the least) Breakfast was a joke...but a bad joke... Poor service in the bar...we were the only ones and after 5 minutes wait we had to go to the bar to ask for some drinks as noone came to take the order Not a 4*S by far...maybe 3*, but the property deserves massive investment as it could become brilliant.

It's a hotel built in 1938 by Mussolini which up until a few months ago (!!!) still had a Mussolini suite. The "grand" days of the hotel are long over. The hotel is run down and smelly, the rooms are very, very old, beds uncomfortable and squeaky with worn out mattresses, decor very dated, dark and unwelcoming. The bathroom in our room used to be spectacular but was now in corners covered with black mold. The beautiful outdoor swimming pool you can see in the pictures is closed and very dirty. The spa downstairs is dark, dirty and very creepy. I regretted having booked a non-refundable option as i would have liked to leave immediately and go to any other of the less expensive and much nicer hotels in the region. Most of the staff does not speak any foreign languages - and we tried English, German, French and Spanish. On the upside breakfast was nice if you have a sweet tooth.

Dear Guest, Thank you for having chosen the Grand Hotel & SPA for your stay in Italy. Please be aware that the name of our property is: Grand Hotel & SPA – Terme di Castrocaro and not “Mussolini Hotel”. We would like to thank you for taking the time to send us your comment, however we are very sorry to read that our property did not satisfy your expectations. Designed by Tito Chini (and not by Mussolini), the Hotel features are one of the most important examples of Italian Art déco produced by the ceramic manufacture of Borgo S. Lorenzo. We had taken into consideration all your suggestions regarding swimming pool, SPA, rooms and area renovations. We will organize double check of all these issues to improve our services. Last, thank you for having provide us with your feedback, since it is only through these valuable comments that we can better understand and satisfy our guest’s desires and expectations. The beautiful Art Deco esthetic makes this hotel such a treasure. The staff was so helpful, well beyond my expectations. Arranging a delightful oil and wine tasting and organizing a tour of the nearby 1000 year old fortress. I was pleasantly surprised with one of the BEST massages I have ever had. From the delicious tea time to the elegant buffet on offer during lunch and dinner the restaurant created tasty dishes of the region. Every single interaction with the staff was a delight. Friendly and welcoming at every turn. The attention to detail makes this hotel a true gem!

The hotel is totally natural with the general meaning. Being in the forest, being a place to go through the glass is also perfect for nature lovers. The hotel is a special area for spa and more summer. In the winter the pool and spa are not very handy. But it definitely rests on the water in the house. The breakfasts are nice. There is also no problem in the car park. There is a lot of space in the early hours because the area is a bit out of the way. Especially in the summer to come back with family and rest your hair diploma. I definitely recommend it.

This hotel is top of the line. We got a room for three nights for 84 euro per night. Very nice room on the first floor. AC worked well (it was nearly 37 C every day of our visit). Good breakfast. Incredible restaurant. The spa and baths are very posh. We enjoyed them very much. The outdoor pool is nice- we had fun watching kids swim lessons the day we were there. We both had massages that were very relaxing. The main negative about this property is that it is hard to navigate. Signage and staff directions can be improved. But............you'll be hard-pressed to find anything this impressive at the price point.

The hotel was highly recommended but it far exceeded our expectations in every way possible. A marvellous location by the sea with its own beach bar, a beautiful pool and bikes to ride around the town, very accessible to all the facilities and shopping, tennis coaching and a well maintained clay court. The staff were so very friendly and accommodating from Henrika ( almost 40 years at the hotel) on reception , to the restaurant staff and housekeeping. Guests are very loyal to the hotel for very obvious reasons. I will definitely return next year.

Check in and out process made to wait 15minutes while employees finished work, highly unprofessional, may have eased the irritation had we been greeted kindly and welcomed appropriately. While the spa where you can buy treatments is wonderful, the thermal spa and hotel that functions separately brought the whole experience down. We won't be back.

The hotel is amazing. Big spaces, marble, travertine and wood everywhere. It has been kept as it was during the 40s, with original furniture dating from different periods. The service was impeccable and all the staff was kind and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. The spa was very goo even if a little bit small for the place, and noisy people should be told to shut up from the staff...
