Situated 200 metres away from the Temple of Concordia, a true masterpiece of Doric art dating back to the 5th century B.C., Villa Athena is a place which transcends time and space, where nature art and beauty have been merging together for over 2,500 years in the presence of the gods. Villa Athena is the only 5-star hotel situated within the Archaeological Park of the Valley of the Temples, which UNESCO has declared a World Heritage Site, with an exclusive direct entrance. A magnificent residence of the end of the 18th century, the villa has 27 between suites and rooms, many of which have view on the Temples or on the garden with ancient olives trees. The garden of the villa blends into the landscape of almond and olive trees that surrounds the magnificent millennia-old temples; from here the Temples of Concordia and Juno can be seen on the Terrazza degli Dei, the restaurant of the hotel. The terrace is open every day, both for lunch and dinner. To complete the beauty of the villa, the hotel has a panoramic outdoor swimming pool, a charming garden bar Federico II, a refined SPA with a wellness area and two cabins for massages and a fitness center. The hotel has free WI-FI and free parking for all the guests.

We stayed in this wonderful hotel surrounded by nature and with a spectacular view of the temples valley. The hotel exceeded all our expectations. Room with attention to every detail, professional service and always impeccable in the attention of the customer. The breakfast is nothing short of fantastic. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful experience with stayed at Villa Athena Resort and we took the chance to enjoy all of it! The position of the resort is very central, located right inside the archaeological park of the Valley of the Temples and surrounded by nature. We stayed in a fantastic and very spacious room, enjoyed delicious meals in the restaurant and drank excellent cocktails on the terrace overlooking the Concordia temple. The environment was super clean and comfortable, the staff always very kind and competent, and the Spa service is also great and super relaxing. We thank the staff for giving us the best attention. All this made our stay unforgettable. Good value for money, I can only recommend this resort!

I have previously stayed at this establishment in 2019 and enjoyed the experience but I later booked another reservation to check-in in the month of April 2020, then the pandemic hit and borders closed, airlines grounded their planes, and it was forbidden to be in the streets unless buying food or seeking medical attention. I requested a refund for all the hotels and even my round-trip flight. ALL GRANTED ME REFUNDS DUE TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES, all hotels except one.... The Hotel Villa Athena! The Hotel Villa Athena refused to grant me a refund, after I'd explained to them that I live in California and that the United States Government had issued a decree to ban all flights coming from Europe (especially Italy and Spain). The Hotel Villa Athena did not cooperate and were only willing to offer credit until December 2021. December approached and I again asked for a refund, they refused only to grant me an extension of the 416 Euro credit that I'd paid until December 2022 (mind you, ALL the other hotels on my itinerary for that cancelled trip HONORED granting me refunds even though most had a: "No cancelation policy", but providing excellent customer service satisfaction by granting refunds to their guests because those other hotels understood the situation of the Covid-19 Pandemic and they had to be lenient during that unfortunate time in history. Now in 2023 that I am again requesting the Hotel Villa Athena for a refund of the 416 Euros I'd paid back early in 2020, they responded by saying that the reservation had canceled and that there is NOTHING they can do about it! My conclusion: I would not recommend this hotel to anyone because of the poor service I received for the amount of money that I paid and that the most important thing The Hotel Villa Athena should recognize is to provide exceptional customer service skills and hospitality to their guests by understanding that "IT'S BETTER TO LOOSE PENNYS THAN TO LOOSE DOLLARS" ( In other words: it's better to loose a bit of profit by understanding the situation of current events than loosing a customer, who will never want to ever return or will ever recommend that establishment).

Dear Mr. Barron, First of all, I would like to thank you for your comments, despite the fact that they appear to be against all the other reviews and very positive experiences encountered by our guests. I am happy to give you all the clarifications on the events that happened regarding your reservation as moreover already well explained in the long conversation we had by e-mail. The covid certainly put a strain on all of us, no one doubts the difficulties you may have experienced in having to travel from California. The policy implemented by Villa Athena resort regarding the management of reservations during the pandemic period, in concordance with Italian decrees No. 27 04/2020 and No. 160 09/2021 which legislated that the hotelier was not obliged to make reimbursement but could also issue a voucher, was to release vouchers valid for one year; at the end of the year it was then no longer possible to use the voucher, nor to obtain reimbursement. We handled every single reservation and released the vouchers valid for one year, and our guests were very happy to be able to come to the Villa Athena resort once the pandemic period was over. Your first voucher was also active until 12 31 2021. Since you were not able to use your voucher, under your request Villa Athena resort was very happy to extend the duration of your voucher by another year until 31 12 2022 without any problem. In this second case, you never proceeded to exchange your voucher or request the extension of it. It was only last week that you reapplied for a refund. It was well explained to you by e-mail that the credit had been lapsed for 5 months and it was no longer possible either to have a refund or an extension. Nevertheless, understanding your limitation in traveling, you were offered 10% discount on a future reservation for a family member or friend. We are surprised not to have received any form of response to the email and read your review. We always remain at your disposal should you wish to reevaluate the idea of a stay at Villa Athena resort, confident that we will offer you a wonderful stay. Best regards Roberto Principato General Manager

Villa Athena has been the top hotel in Agrigento and one of the well-known luxury hotels in Sicily for decades. We could not get a reservation there on our first trip to Sicily, but this spring we were able to stay for 2 nights. The location is as amazing as pictures and website show - you can look our your window or sit in the garden with a full-on view of the Temples. Absolutely stunning. Having said that, location and view are only one part of the hotel experience. Our room (temple view) was extremely small, but very well-maintained; the bathroom was decent-sized and totally modern. Still, it was the smallest room we've had anywhere in Europe in a long time, let alone for a 5-star hotel. Since we were there before summer, breakfast and dinner were served in a totally indoor space without any view and decorated in an ultra-modern style, which left us a little cold. And while the front desk staff were very welcoming, the restaurant staff did not add much to our experience -- on the first morning, we were ignored (for ordering coffee or seeing a menu) until we called someone over and we never got a single smile from anyone. We were so surprised that I mentioned it - quietly - to the front desk person. It actually made us decide to have dinner elsewhere. On the second morning, the breakfast staff was friendlier, but I have to say that it colored our opinion of the hotel. We were happy to have finally stayed at the Villa, but if I were to return to Agrigento, I'd seek out an alternative. If the Villa advertises itself as a 5-star experience and charges accordingly, it needs to deliver. We'd be willing to stay in less luxury but with warmer, more personal service.

Dear efpatters, Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent stay with us. We always appreciate our guest’s feedback since it will undoubtedly help us improve the quality of our service. We are sorry that you considered our temple view rooms very small for you; we hope to welcome you back to Villa Athena by suggesting that you choose between our Presidential suite (50 m2) and Villa suite (65), both of which provide a temple view and larger rooms. I would like to personally extend my sincere apologies following your disappointment concerning the type of service you received at our restaurant during your breakfast. This is certainly not the impression we wish our guests to retain and I have immediately discussed the issue with them in order to insure it does not reoccur. In fact, as you well said, the next day was better. We sincerely hope this experience will not dissuade you from considering the Villa Athena on a future trip to Agrigento. If you wish to book again with us, we will also make sure that next time we will accommodate you in quieter and stocked room and you will have breakfast in our outdoor areas while enjoying a wonderful temple view. Best regards Roberto Principato General Manager

The setting is spectacular with views from the terrace over the valley of the temples breathtaking. The staff were friendly and helpful but I found the atmosphere of the hotel and especially the dining area stark. The range of food for lunch very limited and expensive. ( Didn’t want a club sandwich or a burger) Breakfast was a bizarre affair with a huge choice but somehow very unappealing ( no fresh orange juice which at these prices not acceptable) and had to send the coffee back as it tasted like instant coffee. Perhaps if the weather had been kinder it would have been better , but as it was somewhat disappointing

Dear Chris, Thanks for reviewing your experience with us. We always appreciate our guest’s feedback since it will undoubtedly help us improve the quality of our service, it will help us not to occur in further matters like this in the future. As you have already mentioned, due to bad weather we were unable to serve the lunches and dinners outside, giving you the opportunity to enjoy an excellent view of the temple of Concordia. the design chosen for the structure is minimal, just to be enchanted only by the beauty of the temples. About the menu in our restaurant, we would like to inform you that our Chef has prepared the menus using only the raw materials available according to the season and guaranteeing 24-hour service. we were provided with all our menus via the link we sent you on whatsapp when you checked in and you could read that the club sandwich is not among the lunch menu but among the snack menu, while for lunch there is the à la carte menu. I am also sorry to hear that our breakfast is not good. Our breakfast buffet is full of fresh products, from baked croissants, to cakes, ham, cheese, scrambled eggs, bacon, different types of bread, fresh fruit salad, freshly squeezed orange juice made from oranges from our farm, yoghurt, etc. We also have a dedicated corner with gluten-free products.I hope to welcome you back to Villa Athena in the summer and even then we will do everything we can to make your stay a memorable one. best regards Roberto Principato General Manager

You’re paying for the location next to the Valley of the Temples. The rooms are dated and in need of a refresh especially the public areas. Lacking the feel of a luxury hotel. Not a very welcoming place for the price. Not much of a welcome. No drink. Nothing. A letdown after the Four Seasons.

Dear Sir Thank you for taking the time to share with us your recent experience at the Villa Athena Resort! We are sorry to find that some aspects of the property did not meet your liking, although the rooms and the Resort as a whole have been recently renovated and continually fixed where there are things to fix. But of course we respect your opinion and treasure it. I would also like to apologise on behalf of the whole team if we gave the impression that we did not give you a warm enough welcome, which is certainly not our custom and not our style. In fact, the most important thing for us is a warm welcome, with sincere joy in welcoming guests and we always express our hospitality. However, I would like to emphasise that your review will be brought to the attention of our management in order to improve the quality of our services. Thank you again and I look forward to welcoming you again at Villa Athena Resort. Rovberto Principato GM Villa Athena Resort

With a Price of Euro 5.000,- for 8 nights excluding breakfast in standard rooms and 5 stars. I had expected something completely different . Even if it was during Easter, the price is impossible to justify. I unfortunately can’t recommend this hotel. It is in serious need of an upgrade I posted a review on Google the day before before I checked out. Only reaction from the hotel was, that they send me a text message with a link to the review. When checking out nobody asked me about my stay. I guess that speaks for it self.

Dear guest, Thank you for the review and sorry for the clarification: Actually your reservation was for basic (Classic) rooms in the Easter Period (with a very high occupancy) but we would have done our best and even the impossible to accommodate you and meet your needs, if only you had indicated it to us. Unfortunately, however, you never let your disappointment shine through and when at check out our Receptionist asked you how your stay had gone, you replied "everything was fine," without hinting in the slightest about dissatisfaction with the price or the dated rooms...our main goal is to give our distinguished guests a good experience and to make you happy, so we are very sorry that we did not have any indication from you as to what could have been done to improve your stay. As always we would have been ready to change your room or discuss any reason for your disappointment. We therefore invite you to return to the villa athena hotel to fully experience our hospitality and the beauty of the place, which is "timeless." Cordiali Saluti, Giulia Vullo- Capo Ricevimento
