Hotel Venezia Terme since its Venetian style but modern refurbishment a few years ago, is indeed a beautiful hotel with above average facilities with a 4 star rating. Located centrally in Abano Terme, the hotel attracts customers from around the world, mainly Italians, Germans, French, Russian and Danish. Check in was fast and easy and free parking is a plus point. One parking area is gated, should you have a desirable vehicle to look after. The hotel has a mixture of rooms, some completely new and up to date whilst other rooms have simply been refurbished to an extent but are still old looking but none the less comfortable. Air-conditioning in my room (one of the older rooms…212) was a little noisy and the the force of the air coming down directly (on the lowest setting) on to our faces did cause some unrest during the night. It was too warm not to have the AC turned on. A huge plus point and something that is fairly rare in Italian hotels, is that the television is large and of good quality. A useful feature for the older generation who visit the hotel. There is a wall safe and a mini bar with basic stock, robe, towel for the spa but no slippers (infradito). The bathroom is clean and equipped and in very good condition but is like time warping into the 1980’s. The spa has many services to use such as massage, Shiatsu, Ayurvedic treatments, Mud treatments, Sauna, Solarium, Gym, non of which I tried out, as a few were closed due to covid. Although I did use the pool regularly, this includes the indoor and connected outdoor area. We also experienced a firework display on Saturday evening viewed from the pool area which was a nice touch. The spa facilities are modern and new, and really are a plus point of the hotel. General comments: One thing that was very noticeable is that hotel is very clean, although the spa could have been a little cleaner in places, but not to an undesirable extent. The lobby music was actually enjoyable to listen to, good enough to comment on. They have a hotel robot at reception although I did not see it working, one robot I did see was the lawn mowing robot in action. Yes it mowed the lawn by itself. The service received was generally good. They do live up to a 4 star standard, however there are unfortunately a few areas that really did make me unhappy and as an international traveller iI feel I must bring this up. The restaurant really lets down the hotel, not the service (although slightly rushed and stressed at dinner) but the kitchen with their unimaginative plates that they serve for dinner. We were recommended the restaurant as they had made recent improvements. Marketed as an emotional experience on a plate. Start your gourmet experience here, written on a poster. We were sad to see this was not the case but instead we were offered in some cases poorly cooked and badly presented food that we really did not find any joy in eating and I am not exaggerating when i state this. Furthermore there were no vegan options that had been thought about. Just grilled vegetables with plain tofu straight from a packet, slightly grilled. Hardly gourmet! Other items we experienced were as follows: Potato tart with cheese - Bland, boring and too simple. Veloute of vegetables - Too much salt and yet again really boring. Chicken and chips - yes as simple as it sounds. poor presentation, poor value, poor standard, dry meat, oldish chips and yet again boring. Basic salad ingredients plus 5 other buffet dishes including pineapple slice with bacon wrapped around it. Indivia pieces, potato cubes, another potato dish and some other dish which I could not work out. Dessert - a few choices and I tried a couple. More flavour in the desserts than any other dish. But still not a memorable experience. Catering for big groups and full board diners, they are mass producing dishes but in a way that does not live up to their gourmet claim in any way at all. Perhaps the manager / chef should try the dishes sometime and evaluate what he /she is promoting. Breakfast offers a good choice, but not for vegans. They should offer vegan croissants as a basic addition just as local cafes do. They did offer a good selection of alternative milks and they will warm up milk if you need them to. The one thing that I could not get my head around and something that I expect in a good 4 star hotel such as this, is to offer cappuccinos and lattes from the self service machines with fresh milk and not UHT milk (latte a lunga conservazione). I pushed for a proper cappuccino and was told the bar can do it at 10am but the restaurant closes at 10am. So that was not going to happen. The bar had a real coffee machine but the restaurant did not, even to cater for those discerning customers such as myself. Perhaps the restaurant should invest in a coffee machine that froths and keep it in the back for when required. Another big dissatisfaction is that the Wi-Fi is poor, in the room, downstairs in the lobby and bar area, none or an intermittent Internet connection on a daily basis during the 5 day stay. I was also unable to get an iron and ironing board to use to iron some of my creased shirts due being in a suitcase. I had to go to another hotel, pay a fee to use their ironing room for guests use. It was a necessity as I had a function to go to on a Sunday evening. So, to wrap up, this a good hotel and I recommend you try it out, the hotel just needs to fix the coffee, the ironing, the wifi and the kitchen and the vegan options. Let me know when it is fixed and I will return and I hope to write a better review.…
One elevator is out of service, the second is ancient as Coliseum. The third is surprisingly fine. The smell and the noise of construction over the outside part of the swimming pool is terrible. I doubt any security rules allow the crane to work over the swimming people, however who knows the Italian security approach. However it is definitely not enjoyable.
Terrible experience at this hotel. I fell in a broken elevator, rooms not as described/pictured, terrible beds, awful staff. On the night I was there we had five fire alarms at the end of which, around 11:30pm, I had to leave and find another hotel. Hotel then refused to issue a refund to Hotels.com. Amazingly, they have good rooms, but these are not the ones you get when you book, only when you upgrade. The spa is okay, too, as is the location if you have a car. But my brief stay was a nightmare. Avoid. :>(
