We stayed over Christmas 2019 for a little escape. The lodge is a perfect little secluded paradise on the bay. Three spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated bungalows spaced along the shoreline with a little beach in front and 180 degree panoramic views over the bay.

The communal sitting area is also beautifully decorated with comfy seating, dining and kitchen areas where delicious breakfast (included) is served and which you can use to self cater for lunch and dinner, and has more of that incredibly beautiful view!

Gaelle and Edu are so unbelievably kind and helpful and go to great lengths to look after their guests. We had little gifts on our porch from Santa on Christmas morning :)

The area is so stunning and away from the main town of Lugainville. Crystal clear water, little white sand islands and next to two blue holes. You can take the kayaks out from the front of the lodge and kayak up river into the blue holes or over to one of the deserted islands.

My friend and I stayed three nights here and we were looked after SOOO well by Gaelle and her gorgeous team. We were given a huge, modern bungalow with the most GLORIOUS hot water system we nearly cried it was so amazing (we had just spent two weeks roughing it in the bush exploring another island).

They have good quality SUP's and kayaks available to check out the various blue holes that are nearby. The hammocks and swings hanging from the trees over the beach/water at high tide will gain you at least a billion likes on insta if that's your thing ;)

Gaelle's breakfasts she put on every morning were delicious, freshly made bread, organic homemade jams, seasonal fruit and smoothies, and various cereals and muselis were available. Don't forget unlimited organic Tanna Coffee! (again, this was something we had been without for some time and when we saw the plunger we nearly died with excitement).

The common area where we sat down for breakfast or to read books from the bookshelf was its own waterfront bungalow. Exquisitely furnished with a mixture of traditional carvings, bowls and baskets contrasting with beautiful modern and handmade tables, chairs and crockery. You get given your own pantry and part of the fridge to store your groceries for other meals when you're not eating out. There are extensive cooking utensils available and allllll the pots, pans, enormous gas ranges and whatever you want to cook up a storm! We didn't get around to it but if you bothered to go fishing the oven could probably fit a wahu in that oven.

I can't wait for the borders to open back up and take my Mum and my Grandma for an awesome girls holiday!

We decided to have our first ever family vacation at Matevulu Lodge and it did not disappoint. The room was plenty big for us and our 4 kiddos, aged 4-8. We didn't even need the kiddo bungalow behind the main family bungalow. It was far enough away from all the other units, that we didn't need to worry about our kids being too noisy or getting in someone else's space. The beach was amazing to enjoy at both high tide (the fantastic tree swings) and low tide (heaps of exploring the beach for hermit crabs). We went kayaking many times and even a family bike ride. Gaelle and her crew were so friendly and were always accommodating to our needs.

We really enjoyed the full, communal kitchen. This was a huge feature for us, as we didn't have to break the bank with restaurants, but we were able to make food to our kid's liking and even used a nearby catering service.

I have been to Matevulu a few times in 2021 and 2022, and keep returning, as it is an amazing place.
The location is amazing for tourists, as it has a great private beach, is within a kayak or snorkel to blue holes, and has close to restaurants at turtle bay. Yoga retreats or shorter classes with local teacher Kat are also highly recckmended. And less exciting is that it is perfect for those of us needing to return to Luganville often for work committments.

Each bungalow is beautifully decorated using a selection of locally sourced handicrafts and good quality furniture, giving a very luxurious feeling while retaining the beach bungalow vibe. the communal kitchen and living is very inviting and similar in style.

A special mention must go to the hosts Gaelle, Madeline and resident cat Chattouie who go above and beyond to make guests comfortable during their stay. Thank you so much

I hope to return soon!

Matervulu Lodge was the perfect place to stay for our recent trip to Santo. Gaelle is so accomodating and helpful; She was able to answer any question that we had to make our stay in Santo a success! The rooms are beautiful as is the view over the ocean. It was a treat to wake up to gorgeous sunrises each morning. The location is great and we were able to kayak to a near by bluehole - which is a must! Highly recommend!

Our family of four (2 teenagers) stayed in the family villa for 4 nights during April 24. We were not looking for a big resort experience, instead something quiet, self contained and Matevalu lodge delivered. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and Gaelle’s hospitality. We took out kayaks, snorkels and stand up paddle boards (free) on adventures in the bay from the front of our villa, we kayaked to the blue hole and walked to the other one. We hired a driver (Sliven from Bratasok) to take us to Champagne beach, and Port Olry - he was fantastic, lives locally and speaks very good English. Recommend dinner at Turtle Bay resort (5 min taxi ride). Kitchen facilities in the common kitchen area at the lodge are very good, and shelves and fridge space reserved for your villa. Tips - take lots of cash as blue holes, taxis and beach visits require cash only (ATM only in Luganville), there is no air conditioning in the villas, just fans which didn’t bother us but some might expect air con, buy enough groceries in Luganville before you arrive to last your stay (it’s quite expensive to taxi to/from), wifi is weak from the family bungalow but perfectly fine in the kitchen/lounge common area, book tours like the horse ride and snorkelling tours before you arrive or you will miss out, and talk to Gaelle - she’s a delight, and knows where ro go and what to do and is just so lovely. She really made our stay special.

We had a perfect week at matevulu lodge, lulled by the sound of the waves. The bungalows are magnificent, the common area very well equiped, Gaelle and Edouard very attentive and the lodge is well located, 20 minutes drive from Luganville, close to 2 magnificent blueholes. Go for it as soon as possible ! 🤞

We loved Matevulu for its tranquility, the beautiful scenery and relaxed vibe. Gaella is the perfect host, charming and friendly but also super efficient and helpful. The little touches make a big difference, for example the beautiful breakfast basket delivered daily and the sweet kitchen area equipped with everything you would need.
Sleeping to the sound of the waves lapping gently right outside our door and waking to an amazing sunrise across the water was so special.
We would love to return one day.

Matevulu Lodge is a beautiful place with a lovely location and gorgeous bungalows and garden. Gaelle is a warm and welcoming host who is so kind and thoughtful. The bungalows are right on the water and are tastefully decorated without trying too hard. I especially love the artefacts in the dining area. The breakfast and coffee was lovely, especially the cinnamon pancakes one morning 😊. It was great to be able to use the kayaks and go exploring. My friend and I both loved it and will definitely return. I also love Chatouille the resident cat.

Hello, I just wanted to share our experience there. We loved so much our stay in Matevulu Lodge (our favorite in Santo!) that we booked it again while we were discovering the island for 10 days 😁 We particularly enjoyed the breakfast there and our discussions with Gaelle that have such an ability to welcom her guess and guide us with the good spots to visit around. Thank you.
