Nestled in a tranquil, picturesque setting, the Iberostar Creta Panorama & Mare offers guests stunning views and a peaceful retreat, despite its distance from bustling towns. The accommodations, while comfortable and clean, receive mixed reviews with some guests suggesting updates are needed. Service at the hotel is consistently lauded for its friendliness and effectiveness, contributing to a welcoming environment. Although additional costs such as safes and late checkouts have been a point of contention, the value gained from water sports and various activities on-site is widely appreciated. The hotel's cleanliness stands out, with both the grounds and rooms maintained impeccably. A vibrant atmosphere pervades the hotel, thanks to diverse entertainment options that cater to all ages. The amenities, including multiple pools and dining venues, are extensive and well-kept, though securing sunbeds can be a challenge.

I booked just seven days before we flew via lastminute.com.
We chose to take the shuttle as it was much cheaper than a taxi - it said it was one hour from the airport, in the end it was closer to two.
The description of the rooms is quite deceiving and for a 'superior bungalow' suitable for 4 adults we were expecting something much nicer and with two separate rooms. It's really just a largish normal hotel room in a block with another storey above it. The walls are very thin, we could even hear someone snoring next door. Good shower but no bath. We thought we had been given the wrong room, the hotel manager seemed willing to help us and offered us the option to move to a family bungalow, I was shown another room with two single beds squeezed into a little entrance hall before reaching the otherwise identical room, for an upgrade costing 30 euros a day which I declined as it was just not worth it. So I wasted the first morning hanging around for nothing. The manager was doing her best to be nice but at the same time it was obvious it was not really in her nature as I could see her rolling her eyes as soon as my back was turned.
The restaurants need to be booked in advance via an app. We managed to book the BBQ restaurant for Saturday night, when we arrived they said they didn't have a booking for us but reluctantly agreed to squeeze us in. It's in a spectacular setting but the food was not great. We booked half board as it's just me and the kids and I don't drink alcohol, not realising soft drinks are not included with dinner (what?) so it probably makes sense to do fully inclusive anyway. Although you can buy cheap drinks in the shop. It is buffet style but you have to ask a server to serve you food, which some seem to do begrudgingly.
The teenagers club is inexplicably closed, as is the gym, due to COVID. We just watched a Greek Show which was alright, but yesterday there was no entertainment at all, and the evenings feel very flat with nothing to do, and at this resort you are isolated from any other nightlife unless you get a taxi or drive yourself.
Having said that, the daytime entertainment team are great, really friendly and Tony is great fun and speaks several languages fluently, and there are plenty of daytime games and activities to keep the kids busy in the pool. Some of the staff are very nice particularly one girl on reception - others are almost rude.
I think we would have been happier if we had not been expecting something much better based on the somewhat deceptive room descriptions and pictures we saw online (the word bungalow seems to mean something different here). Now we have been here a couple of days after the bumpy first day we are appreciating how they are managing to operate despite the COVID restrictions. If I'd had time to do more research I'm not sure I'd have chosen this resort though. It doesn't seem to be close to anything.

So we were supposed to go to Majorca and it got cancelled and we pushed to go here. We weren’t disappointed we stayed in the Minos rooms and over looked the minos pool which hardly had anyone round most days. The food is fab I am not a picky person so loved the food. Youngest ate chips most days and the morning pancakes are a must with chocolate sauce. We felt very safe even with COVID as hotel was only half full so we were the only guests in our block until 3 days before our departure. We are still here now one day left. It’s absolutely red hot so kids definitely need rash vests and high factor plus all pools except one are salt water so bring cheap swim wear and t shirts as they turn yellow!
Last night we caught the little rain bus outside our hotel leaves at 25 past the hour from 2:25 and goes into Panormos small fishing village. It cost €16 for a return family ticket. We had a beautiful authentic Greek meal in a small Greek taverna overlooking the small beach.

Most days we stayed round the Faethon pool where a lovely barmaid called Maria served us she was so friendly. About 5pm we made our way to the Minos pool a small quiet pool where we could always get beds at that time of day. It’s a shallow pool so ideal for kids. We actually only stayed round the big main pool on first day and found it wasn’t for us. Lots of animation team doing activities but we preferred quieter pools and our boys loved them.

A must visit to the man made cove/ beach near to the hotel where we took our boys snorkelling. We bought flippers and full face snorkelling masks from the shop on site. Buy at home at there expensive here. Advise to get the shoes that enable you to walk in the sea as the beach is very stoney and can hurt little feet.

Staff and friendly and courteous the odd one has an attitude we put it down to them having a bad day and avoided them lol. May be an idea to get flights and hotel separate to see if it’s cheaper?

Transfer time is 1 hour 15 mins although it felt mush faster!

Beautiful scenery and a truly fantastic holiday would come again possibly with family next time

Bad point she has just been over and reminded me lol. So the lady from the spa tries to sell you a massage every day she is relentless every day she tries every day I say no. She wants €75 for a 45 massage if it was 30 I’d have snapped her hand off for it but 75 is way too expensive.

Good things

The hotel is well maintained, everything seems new.
The garden is big and carefully maintained. It is plenty of palm trees, araucarias, oleanders, a perfect grass... Wonderful.
The water of the pools is very clean and transparent.
We had half board and all the food was varied and very tasty. Drinks are not included, unless you buy "all inclusive".
The staff of the restaurant is very friendly, except a waiter called Giannis: he gave us the impression of hating clients, and because of him we every day avoided the area where he was serving.
The animation team is very active and funny, one of the great values of this hotel. During the day they lead sessions of aquagym, zumba, yoga, dards, etc., and at 9:30 pm they perform dance shows in an open air theatre like true professionals.

Bad things
We booked a room "double sea view" but it was a bit disappointing because the sea was far away. It is better to take a bungalow in the first line, them have best sea view.
We stayed 2 weeks but in the second one the housekeeper cleaned our room only every 2 days.
The mattresses of the beds are protected by a horrible plastic fabric that prevents perspiration from the body. We recommend removing it if you want to sleep without suffering a heat attack.
The internet connection was quite poor in our room (in Mare building), it was frequently disconnected and this was very annoying.
The staff of the reception doesn't provide information about entertainment activities and night shows. In addition a guy from the reception gave us wrong information twice.
The cocktails are really bad and the wine by glass is awful. We advice to ask for a bottle, all brands served are Greek and very delicious.
One night the hotel management decided to offer a cocktail party only to the clients that have been before at least once, but eliminated the night show for the rest of clients. The reception didn't informed about it.
The floor of the upper pool (the one next to the Bar Mare) is extremely slippery. I can not believe that the designer-architect decided to put that tiles so smooth!
The coves are small and full of stones. Rubber shoes are recommended.

Suggestions
The information about activities should be visible every day in a blackboard at the Reception, or letting a flyer in every room.
The tap water has bad taste, so a daily free bottle of water would be appreciated (not only provided to those with all inclusive). This would not cost very much to the hotel.
Remove the mattress protectors from plastic fabric and put them on cotton.

After 2 other holidays were cancelled due to the pandemic we booked this hotel at the last minute for our family of 4 and were pleasantly surprised overall. Whilst the first impressions were not great - we arrived late at night and there was only one person on reception and a very long queue to check in so it took around an hour; and the rooms are very basic - these were quickly dispelled during our stay. The views from the front sea view bungalows are stunning and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The facilities are excellent with a number of pools and coves to choose from and the grounds are pretty and well maintained. We thought the food was excellent, a wide variety and all of a great standard. We would recommend the BBQ (set in a beautiful sea view location) and dinner at Zorbas too. The hotel has worked hard with its pandemic safety measures, spacing out the sunbeds, wearing of PPE and many hand sanitisation points. It is however a pity some of the guests ignored advice and didn’t wear masks indoors and kept moving sunbeds back to the main pool. All in all though a great 2 week break in these crazy times and I’d recommend the hotel.

Stayed at this wonderful place for 10 nights all inclusive and was part of a family group of 13, the youngest being 18.

It's pretty hard to fault the staff as most of them were fantastic, however areas such as the main bar were really understaffed so you could be waiting for a good 15 minutes to get served. Similar with the table service that took just as long which was a bit unfortunate.

The hotel itself was immaculate and really well presented. The rooms were also well presented, and the cleaners were excellent.

Previous reviews have said the food is repetitive which is a fair comment, but it is well worth knowing there is just so, so much food to chose from. So with such a choice is not worth moaning about as you can get anything from burgers to authentic Greek food.

Wifi throughout was excellent, there were a few blackspots around the rooms but we weren't on holiday to go on the internet.

The salt water pools were excellent and you could pretty much find a sunbed anytime throughout the day. It wasn't really necessary to get up at 6am to towel drop. Sunbeds were also scattered throughout the resort such as grass areas, on the beaches etc and of course you could move them around to suit.

The beaches were amazing - defo take a snorkel set as the water was crystal clear and there are plenty of fish to watch. The bay areas were fantastic and there was a bar/food area close to one of them so we didn't need to go up and down to the main restaurants to get food and drink.

For a change of scenery we took a bus ride into Rethimno town which cost only 2 Euros each way and took about 40 minutes every half hour - well worth it. The bus stop was right outside the main entrance to the hotel, and when being dropped back it was a 10 minute walk back to the hotel. We went on a Thursday which was market day, but the market wasn't worth going for as it was all fruit and fake clothing/aftershaves etc. However the town itself is well worth a visit with loads of small shops, bars, restaurants etc and it was a brilliant day out. For lunch we went to Kouzoulo Meze Bar - the staff were exceptional and the food and drink brilliant.

We also took the small road train from the hotel into the port which was good fun, 30 minute journey and 5 Euros per person. The bars and restaurants in the port were also great.

When leaving we paid an extra 70 Euros to keep a room until 18.00 which was good as we could keep our luggage there and all also shower after the day at the beach before going to the airport. There is a safe room that you can leave your luggage free of charge.

Overall, this was a brilliant holiday enjoyed by all.

Would we return? Yes.

Very basic but very clean room with a double bed and sofa bed, our other room had two singles and a sofa. Food really good with a very clean dining area for all three meal times although we used Zorbas at the pool side every day for lunch. You had to book all your meal times, not sure whether this is standard or covid related but it was easy to do. It’s normally self service but again because of covid there was someone behind each counter masked up serving the food you had chosen. There was a lack of waiting staff at meal times but that’s probably because of covid and it wasnt a massive issue. Lots going on during the day with a kids club morning and afternoon, pool games and non pool games such as boccia and beach volleyball. One thing to beware of is the three main pools are all saltwater pools, not sure about the indoor because that was closed but he kids club pool is chlorine. The evening entertainment was limited because of covid. It is expensive for drinks (not sure about food costs) if not all inclusive which I would definitely recommend. You can upgrade at the hotel if you book it differently beforehand. Staff were excellent and encouraged everyone to participate in the activities without going over the top. All staff wore masks or a shield but guests weren’t required to which was a bit of a surprise. It’s a short downhill walk to a small cove on the beach with a bigger one nearby hosting the water sport company. The hotel is very remote (one hour 15 minute transfer from Heraklion) but there is a small train you can get to travel to small villages if you want a bit of sight seeing and two car rental companies within the hotel grounds as well as an ATM.
You can play tennis at a cost of about 8 euros but the basketball was free. If you want a bit of quiet time then base yourself either at the beach, bottom pool or top pool which was where we were but it’s only a 30 second walk to the main pool, supermarket and Zorbas. All the pools have a bar next to it but it’s a bit of an uphill trek from the beach as there aren’t any facilities down there apart from a toilet. I have put sleep quality at a 3 because we were right above where the singer was facing the front of the hotel and we weren’t up late because of our daughter but it was normally finished by 2300

All in all a great hotel which I would recommend to anyone

Spent eleven nights at the Creta Panorama and Mare as part of a Jet2 package holiday on an AI basis. Arrived just after midnight yet given a warm welcome at reception. Allocated to room 1227 in the hotel’s main building just above the reception area. The room was spacious with lots of wardrobe storage and proved to be a quiet and comfortable space despite its central location. The balcony had views over the front of the hotel to the sea beyond. The room was simply decorated in the Iberostar style, freshly decorated and clean.
The hotel is located about halfway between Heraklion and Rethymnon, directly on the seafront with its own two beaches and marina. There is little of cultural or historic interest in the immediate area. No matter, as the hotel’s spacious and well laid out, kept and beautiful grounds offered enough in the way of pastimes to while away the time.
Of special mention are the hotel’s bars and restaurants that served an abundant choice of delicious food and drinks and the friendly, helpful and welcoming service from all the staff.
It all made for a memorable, enjoyable and relaxing Greek holiday.
As we visited during the COVID pandemic, a few tips: mask and disposable gloves are used in the restaurant areas and tables need to be booked in the restaurants for all meals.
Definitely recommended!

Just returned from a gorgeous 1 weeks stay at iberostar. We stayed on an all inclusive basis, the rooms where very clean, resort lovely with plenty to do and no shortage of beautiful views, the private beach coves were stunning but would recommend bringing some snorkels & aqua shoes as it’s a little stoney. The animation team where exceptional, entertaining shows and high energy all through the day and night! Never a shortage for sun loungers around the pool. Very generous drink measures & the cocktails at the pool bar where a personal fave - although no straws so maybe bring some reusable ones! We opted to rent a car which was a great option and only took 50 minutes from Heraklion airport which was a lovely scenic drive and cheaper than taxis. Overall a wonderful stay, I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

We had a fantastic holiday at Iberostar Creta Panorama. We had a lovely room on the 5th floor, which was spotless, with a modern bathroom and lovely views of the sea and if you were an early riser, you could watch an amazing sunrise.
The hotel grounds are massive and BEAUTIFULLY maintained.

You had to be up early, if you wanted to get yourself a sun bed, but there were plenty around.

The animation team was definitely the highlight of our trip. They went above and beyond to keep guests entertained throughout the day and the evening entertainment was great. The only criticism is that may be they could change up the mini disco up a bit as it is the same every evening, with the same songs (if you stay for more than a week, this can be a bit boring for the kids). Also, the kids club did not necessarily do all the activities they advertised (ages 4-7) for the day and ended up with doing some colouring instead, which was a bit disappointing to hear.

The food was pretty good, with a lot of variety. We had breakfast and dinner at the main restaurant but had lunch mostly at Zorbas. Their Gyros was amazing!!
We managed to book the BBQ restaurant one evening, the waiters were great and we had a stunning view of the sunset.
Unfortunately we weren't able to book a gala dinner at Zorbas, which was a shame.

I wish they had a freshwater pool instead of all being salt water. They have a baby pool which is fresh water. For some reason all our swimming outfits stained yellow and had a very sticky coating from the water, which was quite off putting!

The hotel is quite isolated, but there is a little train which takes you to a little village called Panormo for €5 (roundtrip) or €3 for a child. We went there one evening to wonder around for a couple of hours. This service runs from 14:25hrs onward every hour and the last return train is at 23:00hrs.

All in all, we had a great time at this hotel!!

Not our first time here and definitely not our last!
On arrival you have very helpful reception staff and porters ready to help you check in and show you to your room. Rooms have been upgraded with walk in showers, tv with British channels (not that we watched much, too much to do). Felt very COVID safe, plenty of sanitiser, use of gloves in the restaurant, masks on indoors. Gardens and pool area are fantastic and spotless. The housekeeping staff are fantastic, great to walk in to a clean, fresh and tidy room. The food has definitely went up in standard too. The bar staff, Vaiya, Doris and Dimitra always remember your drink! Diama in Zorbas along with David, always greet you with a smile and coffee. Animation Team, Simone, Tony, Matea, Anthony, Paula, Erini, Giani are the most amazing people ever! They keep everyone entertained and laughing during the day and night. They are also the most friendly, upbeat, energetic and helpful team going. Nothing is a problem at this hotel, they are the most friendly and welcoming people I have met.
Thank you for making our holiday the best yet and see you next year

It’s in the middle of the island so you can fly to both airports. We flew to Chania and it was around 2hrs from there

Yes, definitely suitable for adults. Don't think there is an exclusively adult pool, but you will definitely have a choice of quieter pools if you wish. Unsure about a la carte, but they did have special bbq nights in a different restaurant and so much food choice at all times of day - On the one day we went out to the local town a la carte, we missed the variety & quality of the hotel's food!

"If you want peace and quiet at night I'd book a villa room rather than the main hotel as there's usually entertainment on till fairly late in the evenings. "
