Nestled between majestic mountains and the serene sea, Al Bustan Palace A Ritz-Carlton Hotel is celebrated for its tranquil location and elegant atmosphere that beautifully marries traditional and contemporary luxury. While some guests feel that the hotel's pricing doesn't always equate to value, the spacious and well-appointed rooms along with the lush gardens, luxurious pools, and beachfront are widely praised. Service is predominantly lauded for its professionalism, although there have been sporadic mentions of inconsistency. Cleanliness across the hotel, especially in the pools and rooms, is consistently commended.

This hotel is without a doubt my favourite - and I have stayed at hundreds throughout the world and Middle East in particular.
From the time we stepped out of the car to be greeted, the checking in process, the service from the restaurant staff, the pool and outdoor seating area, the restaurant service and quality of food, and the general helpfulness of everybody right up to the top, e.g. Assistant general Manager.
I generally do not do lengthy reviews, but I feel I need to to fully justify how good our stay was at The Al Bustan Place.
The interior is stunning, almost like a cathedral or mosque dome. The room which overlooked the "lagoon" was of very tasteful decor. Such comfortable pillows and bed, with a lighting system which enables you to achieve any ambience that you wish. Very quiet with practically no noise from the corridors or other rooms.
We stayed for a week commencing 8th February, and it was so peaceful and serene everywhere with staff almost on top of you ready to help and serve! It did get a lot busier the day we arrived but there is so much space outside that it never felt overly crowded.
The Al Khiran Restaurant breakfast is to die for, and goes on to 11.00 am and it never felt like the staff were trying to rush you out. What a way to start your day! Literally everything available that you can possibly imagine, and a fresh fruit section that leaves you trying to guess the names of some of them. Leisurely breakfasts set us up for the day.
The Al Khiran evening themed buffets were exceptional - we tried the Arabic and Seafood nights, and both were amazing with a wide selection that did not restrict you to the speciality dishes.
We booked a Tomahawk Steak night at the Beach Pavilion several days beforehand, (amazing value from money), but were told 2 days before that it was Valentine's Day night and had booked us in by mistake. We were disappointed, but fully understood. Then the day before, they told us that they would honour the original booking.
The service was 100%, and they also provided us with complimentary Valentines cocktails as well as the additional sweet.
There is a complimentary shuttle which goes to the Muttrah souk, and another which goes to the Sultan Qaboos Mosque.
We chose not to go on any excursions, e.g. Wadis, mountains or desert trips as this was a holiday just for chilling.
Neither Oman nor the Al Bustan are cheap, but one is not left feeling short changed by the quality and level of service.
Unlike most of the other Gulf States, the Omani people are delightful, friendly and always keen to help.
All in all, this holiday was 10 out of 10 with some wonderful winter sunshine and very tolerable temperatures in the mid-20's C (high 70's F).
Thank you Al Bustan and all your staff.

I do not know where to start. This hotel is magnificent and the staff, some of the best I have ever come across in my extensive travels. Check in was swift and informative and when I asked whether the hotel offered any cooking classes during our stay, the response was that an inquiry would be made and a message left for me. Within 5 minutes of arriving in our lagoon room, the phone rang and I was informed that there was a class at 12.30 pm the following day and I could attend at no charge given our membership of the Bonvoy loyalty program! The class was brilliant. I was the only participant and Sagar, the chef de cuisine and Hazeffa, the sous chef, took me through 2 recipes, a soup and a rice dish as well as many other tips. These two chefs were fantastic and representative of the magnificent friendly service which all staff exhibited. Given we were not going to be at the hotel for dinner the following day, they offered to make me a Laksa which was one of Hazeffa's many specialities. True to their word at dinner that night Hazeffa served her delicious laksa to my husband and I even though it was not on the menu that evening! This care and attention to detail is what makes this hotel one of the best I have stayed in anywhere in the world.
We ate at the Al Khiran for breakfast each day and also at night although we only ordered from the a la carte menu rather than the buffet as we were trying to limit the amount of food we consumed. The food at this restaurant for both breakfast and dinner was of the highest standard - eggs cooked to order, fresh pastries which melted in your mouth, delicious fruit, well selected cheese, cold meats, fish, cereal, pancakes and many more hot dishes. Nothing was too much and everyone seemed to go that extra mile. Our evening waiter Jince, was excellent as were all the restaurant staff.
The hotel grounds are superb and beautifully maintained. Sun lounges were plentiful and made up on request and came with an ice box with cold water. Lunch, coffee and drinks were discreetly offered to anyone who wanted something and umbrellas were freely moved should this be needed.
There was a gym, tennis courts and a children's play area which were located to one side of the hotel. You could also hire boats and there was a spa. There were at least 3 pools.
The room was comfortable and quite spacious. We had a lagoon room which came with sun lounges and direct access to one of the pools. On our arrival we found a fresh fruit platter waiting for us and on the second day, a trio of delicious dips and bread sticks was delivered to our room with the compliments of the hotel. Whilst the hotel is expensive, every cent is worth it for the wonderful stay.

I recently stayed at this hotel after an interval of several years. it is now under the control of the Ritz Carlton and has been expanded to include two additional wings some sporting pool side direct access rooms with superb facilities, although the main building rooms still are specked to a high standard and offer the benefit of a wonderful sea panorama which at sundown twinkles as the fishing boats dot about the bay, The hotel stands in its own entirely secluded bay with over a quarter of a mile of shore line surrounded by the backdrop of the austere mountains. The easy access beach is clean and well maintained and although the beach has more pebbles than before (the adverse effect of severe storms in recent years) the water is clear and still azure blue. The beach and pool facilities are excellent There are 3 large pools which were never crowded and high standards of service are provided by the teams led by Ganesh and Nasser. Sun loungers were in abundance and never were they all filled. There is a separate Spa which runs to 3 floors and offers all manner of services at a very reasonable charge for such a 5 star hotel. The dedicated staff have only one desire to help you relax and enjoy in harmony the newly built mini Arabian Palace which stands well away for the main facilities, Throughout the hotel the staff are not only courteous but their mission is simple to please at all times, they seem to remember seamlessly who you are and what your needs are and really make you feel that you were part of the family. The breakfast menu was extensive and was a mixture of prepared dishes for many nationalities as well as any 'a la carte' desire that one might request. We had the option of half board but did sample the other two specialised restaurants. However the main Al-Koran produced sumptuous food and in the evenings different theme nights were held of which our favourite was the seafood evening, the Omani lobsters were outstanding but by no means the only upmarket delicacy. However at any dining if you had a specific request for absolutely anything it would be prepared with the only desire to cater for your needs and possible idiosyncrasies. Once again the restaurant staff were all extremely friendly and caring. This hotel remains in my opinion one of the very top hotels in Muscat and we have stayed at a number. It will be our prime location to return for some winter sun particularly as Oman as a country offer a range of natural benefits and culture far removed from the bling of places such as Dubai.

If you are a UAE resident, and would like to visit a location that isn't RAK or Fujeirah (chances are you've visited these places enough times), then a long drive to Oman is the way to go! The moment you exit the UAE border, everything about your view changes;the shades of the mountains, the twirling of the roads, the clarity of the skies, the feel of remoteness.
If you are spoilt with the views of shiny skyscrapers and flashy cars just as I am, then entering Muscat will be so refreshing to your eyes - a gaze at how ordinary lives at GCC really look like. The road that takes you to the Al Bustan Palace by Ritz Carlton, you'd forget you're in the middle east and rather a remote town perhaps in Santorini. It is absolutely stunning, every angle is picturistique. The moment we arrived at the palace, the welcoming fragrance of oud and Arabic music welcomed us. ALTHOUGH, the bellmen were busy amidst a discussion to take note of our arrival... For about 5 minutes, it was still forgivable the moment we stepped into the magnificent lobby. A swift checkin was done, the deluxe room was just perfectly comfortable! The resort is upkept so well, the walk to the Spa is unbelievably refreshing - the walk to get there was sufficient for me to feel relaxed. We tried meals from private dining, the pool bar, buffet restaurant as well as the beach pavilion - let me tell you... OHMYGOSH.We thoroughly enjoyed every single bite.
ALTHOUGH I was woken up by the housekeeper at 23.30 pm (awoken by deep sleep after 7 hours of driving), I was too busy with comfort the next day to remember to be grumpy.
So yes, I highly recommend! I would love to visit ones again!
Thank you Al Bustan Team, for a wonderfully relaxed getaway. Currently going through withdrawal blues.

We spent 8 nights as a family. Overall a superb stay and we enjoyed the location, service, facilities and food. Huge thanks also for the continuous support and benefits for the Bonvoy programme on rooms, check ins and food.

Rooms
We were awarded a very kind upgrade to a junior suite and interconnecting room facing the sea. Both very well appointed with modern yet locally designed decor
Junior suite was an excellent size
Point of note...the standard room was quite small with little space to place luggage. The bathroom has no hangers for large towels and gowns apart from stepping into the shower and hanging over the bath.
Balconies on the floor (3) are small by any standard - both rooms.

Food
Generally excellent. They catered very well for the two members of the party who are gluten free with breads and also pointing out the menu item options (Chinese excepted)
The al Khiran breakfast was very good with a wide range. They also catered for some special requests from me - thank you so much!! I don’t have all names but thanks to chefs Sagar and Anoob!
Al khiran buffet was very good as well with an excellent range of fresh cooked foods, great salad selections. Quality of the meats and fish was fantastic
The beach restaurant we enjoyed a couple of times. Lovely location and very good food. Superb fish and meats and very friendly and helpful service
Went to Turkuaz a couple of times (separate review) and recommend
Had a very disappointing visit to the Chinese restaurant which had been a highlight on last trips to Oman. They had an exceptionally limited set of options for gluten free and no gluten free soy sauce - which is a basic and available in every high end Chinese I have been to. Aside from this the non gluten free food was poor and no better than a standard takeaway.

Facilities
Lovely large gardens and opportunity to find a peaceful spot. The bed and food helpers were great
We used the tennis courts almost everyday. A note for others there is a 4omr charge per racket
Gym is good. Plenty of cardio machines including a concept 2 rower. free weights selection
Kids loved the swimming pools
Excellent kids play area pool slides and fountains
Point of note that the beach is quite rocky and not very alluring or good for swimming. I understand this is a result of a storm 6 months back.

Other
Would suggest for others you drive or take a taxi or alternative arrangement
Our inward journey the driver didn’t bother to push loaded trolly for my wife and the car had no middle seatbelt
On return driver sped along at 140km whilst sending texts and blasting radio
At 45omr each way this isn’t acceptable for a ritz Carlton And I feel I have to flag for others

Overall
Would highly recommend and we will definitely come back

Al Bustan Palace is a place you hear about constantly. About their quality and luxurious setting! All of that was apparent when arriving at the location

However, I have faced the following issues in my stay in Al Bustan Palace:

1. Checking In took longer than in any hotel I have been to. I understand hotels can be crowded in weekends plus the Covid measures taking. But I have waited a total of 2 hours for my room to be ready! When complaining to the front desk I received a generic excuse such as "We had a problem with linen" How can a 5 star hotel have a problem with linen!

2. During my stay, I have decided to unwind and use the bathtub in the room! Upon finishing and draining the bathtub all the water from the tub was actually drained in the room itself. I had the carpet wet and most of the floor. Staff were helpful and offered to send someone to fix the problem but it was soo close to my check-out time that it was not worth the trouble. A 5 Star hotel should regularly check their equipment and not give customers faulty rooms. [Attached picture[

3. Dinner buffet had little to none variety. I think the star of the buffet was the roast beef. Other than that it was pretty dull. On the other hand breakfast was actually pretty good

Apart from these problems, the hotel facilities were really nice and accessible. The swimming pool was large and cool. Bed and in-room amenities were good.

Arguably the best Deluxe Hotel experience we have in all of Oman. It is only here in The Palace that we witness the Hajar mountain embracing the Sea of Oman in full spectacle from sunrise till sunset complimented by the warm Omani hospitality in almost all touchpoints. We spent 4 days in our stay to celebrate my 40th birthday along with our daughters 9th birthday. The welcoming entrance to the room was simply amazing.

Overall, our stay at The Palace is worth every penny. The staff is welcoming and they made our holiday truly rewarding. There are only few Luxury beach resort hotel in Oman that has its own Beach access, Ritz got our vote because of the ladies only sandy beach that is unparalleled. Happy Wife, Happy Life. What we like most of the resort is the expansive manicured landscape, there is enough outdoor for our child to run freely. The pools are temperature controlled allowing us to swim past dinner time. Lastly, there are enough facilities for our daughter to be entertained throughout the day.

We stayed in the Deluxe Pool view room, the best Deluxe room category as far as our experience is concerned. The rooms are punctuated with hardwood furniture accompanied by ultra-modern lighting system that are only available in high end room category. They provided us extra bed and there is still enough living space.

There are mainly three fine dining restaurants, we've tried all of them. Our favourite choice is China Mood, they took the Chinese cuisine seriously. We saw all their chef during the Friday Brunch at the beach Pavillion. Breakfast is pretty standard for a luxury hotel with enough healthy options. The outdoor table is one of the best there is in Oman, we can safely say it can compete with the resort we have stayed in the Maldives where the infinity pool blended into the majestic Indian Ocean.

We were fortunate to be there when the government lifted the Covid restrictions on the SPA, three of us have tried their treatments. They are not yet up to the standards but we are looking forward to visit again when it is fully ready.

For a more rewarding stay in the future, we would opt for the Rooms with access to Lagoon. We highly recommend the Friday Brunch at the Beach Pavillion and then dinner at China Mood especially when it is full moon.

Some words of caution, the pastry is not up to par with the main course in Al Khiran and Beach Pavillion. Not because it is a Ritz Carlton property, parents are not exempted from rearing our children, very limited program for kids. Booked the hotel directly and asked for any on-going promotion, we got ours that is not posted in any of the social media sites or their webpage.

If you have reached at this point, I recommend that you make that booking. Your stay is worth the money...

We would like to thank the following staff that make our celebration a pleasingly different experience, Santona and Pardeep in Al Khiran breakfast, Chef Mustafa, and last but not the least the team of Katrina, Diana and Ben who helped my wife prepared the surprise birthday arrangement...

We chose this hotel as it is part of the Ritz Carlton chain and expected 5 star service especially for the price we paid. Upon arrival at the hotel, one would have hoped for a welcome drink or some thing especially for my two children but we received nothing. Our room was ready for us which was great. We stayed in the executive suite room . As there were four of us staying in the room (2 adults 2 kids) you would have hoped for their to be the correct number of towels, toiletries etc but they were not so we had to call housekeeping to rectify this. We had to ask each day after a day at beach for more towels, ask for our toiletries to be replenished and to be the correct ones. We had the turn down service only once - again after asking when it should have been every day. The hotel has its own private beach which means it should be cleaned but alas it was not. After a storm the beach was dirty and quite a few puffer fish were lying around. These should have been removed each morning but clearly this did not happen. There was one male attendant in particular from the blu bar who was very rude to us as we were women - he would drop our drinks off to us and was not polite at all. There was a positive with the kids pool - the kids loved the slides and the pool and would quite happily spend the day there. NYE was meant to be an outdoor gala by the sea but due to the rain we were moved to the lobby; Overall It was disappointing as the service is at best mediocre.

I was here for 5 nights. It is one of the most memorable stays I've had in the last 10 years as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium member.

The hotel is luxurious and the atrium is breathtaking.

Check-in was pleasant, professional and quick. As a Titanium member I was upgraded to an executive suite with a partial sea and mountain view. The suite was very spacious and was decorated with fresh cut flowers which I could smell the moment I opened the door. There was also a fruit platter and box of chocolates as a welcome gift along with a personalized note from Marta the hotel manager. The suite had a balcony with a sea and mountain view. Everything in the suite was top-notch and was in perfect working condition. The WiFi speed was very good and so was the selection of tv channels.

I enjoyed breakfast each morning at the main restaurant. The staff were always cheerful and pleasant especially Manal who remembered my cappuccino each morning. The selection was vast from eggs made to order, turkey bacon, asian noodles, fresh cut fruit, yoghurt, pastries to fresh coconuts.

The hotel grounds were picture perfect. Beautiful palm trees lined the grounds and pool. It was nice to see exotic brightly coloured birds perched on the palm trees. The hotel has a private beach, I saw 3 people at most while I was there. The sea water is warmer than the pool, so if you want to cool down you are better off using the pool. There was a lifeguard and towel attendant on duty.

I really enjoyed my stay here. It wasn't crowded with tourists and was very relaxing. The hotel is beautiful and staff are first class. I appreciated that they were wearing masks indoors at all times.

The only thing I wish the hotel would improve on is their environmental impact by eliminating single use plastic water bottles and bathroom toiletries. Other Marriott properties have switched to refillable glass water bottles and refillable shampoo, conditioner, soap bottles. I'm hoping they will start that transition soon.

Having said that, I would most definitely return.

Greeted by the lovely Madeline in a spectacular reception area after a long flight from the UK Early am arrival was met efficiently and our room was upgraded to pool view Very impressed with the room lovely bathroom and shower combination with glass wall. Bed was huge comfortable and the room was well appointed and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was a buffet with huge selection to cater for all needs (unless searching for bacon or pork sausage). Lots of flies however inside and on the patio. Big garden with plenty of beds but a lack of much needed shade. Large pool was in need of a good clean, green on the side at one end with a very unappealing scum floating in one corner ! Staff at the pool bar were overwhelmed and ran out of kids meals and bottled beer. Wandered down to pool bar again at 18.45 for an evening snack to be told Pizza oven was closed at 19.00 and we could not order ! Declined to pay £60 for a steak at the restaurant and ordered… yes you guessed it pizza from room service!

A staff shortage seems to be the issue here. Also tax hike on all alcohol makes for a very expensive few beers !

Loved the room and staff were excellent but let down by some small details

Most definitely yes to all questions. A solo female traveler will be taken very good care of, I'm sure. There are discreet areas in the main restaurant where one would feel comfortable.

You would have to direct this question, specifically to the Al Bustan Palace Muscat, truly confident that they would offer a full range of services during Ramadan
