It's hard to write a honest review for this hotel since we just came from the Anantara al Jabal al Akhdar resort. Also a 5 Star resort, but slightly more expensive. But unfortunately for the Chedi a world of difference in service, and quality of the rooms. When we arrived at the Chedi no one came to get the car or the luggage, only after we had entered the lobby some people woke up and helped us to check in, get our luggage and park the car. I know, this might sound a little snobbish, but coming from a place where service was top notch,, you notice these things ;-) check in went smoothly and we were escorted to our rooms. Rooms looked fine and clean, but we had to get used to the lay out. Left of the hallway were the shower and toilet, on the right of the hallway was the rest of the bathroom and dressing room. And after a shower the whole hallway was soaking wet since the water could freely flow under the door of the shower (maybe that's why they cleaned the room 2-3 times a day). Bed was comfortable, the drinks in the fridge were free, and at night the filled the ice cubes so service was good. Side note: you could see that it is/was a very high standard hotel. They even had a Bose Wave Sound System..... too bad it only supported CD's and not bluetooth (old school). Breakfast was good but imho a little chaotic. It was not clear to me where to find everything. If you wanted some salmon or tuna, or some meat on your bread you had to ask. For an omelette or something like that you had to sit on your table and had to ask a waiter. Very complicated , but also here, you get used to it. The swimming pools are AWESOME. However, sometimes you had to really look around to find some towels. Not that there were many people, so that can be better. And sometimes they bring you cold water. and sometimes not. I still haven't figured out why this is, maybe not enough staff? Also the fitness is AWESOME. Very friendly guy who runs the place and he really knows what he is talking about. I think I can say that the fitness of the Chedi is THE BEST I have ever seen!! (so are the pools by the way). The Chedi is situated in a nice garden with a lot of trees. It feels very serene. And it is a real pleasure to be in this environment. Ow and final thought about the level of service.... we had the feeling that at the Anantara all the staff had "a calling" to be friendly. It's in their blood. At the Chedi being friendly is a job, and yes, you as a guest will feel the difference. so therefore 4 out of 5. Note to management: I'm happy to check The Chedi again after you have upgraded the Senai rooms. I'm looking forward for the invite.

Sensational relaxing holiday at The Chedi with its magical Zen-like 103 metres long pool, its awesome Asian-Style Spa treatments, its state of the art gym and absolutely delicious fish under Kevin's great helm and main restaurants. All the staff were very helpful (Essam at Front Desk, Qais and Rasa at Reservations), professional (Spa Ladies) and friendly (Ackon on cocktails) with great attention to details (all the waiters). This whole amazing experience is a real credit to The Chedi's Senior Management: an inspiring and fabulous GM who is very hands-on and demonstrates great leadership: he knows how to get the best out of his staff to ensure customers have the best experience in these stunning surroundings: a winning formula! Thank you to all for the awesome memories, we will return!

In the lead-up to any hotel stay, I prefer to communicate directly with the hotel to arrange and book airport transfers, restaurants, tours, and activities. I sent at least three emails after confirming my booking with the hotel, but there was no reply. I even communicated through their Facebook messenger out of desperation. Someone on FB immediately replied that my query was received and that the one in charge would contact me. Sadly, no one did. Upon our arrival, Sheryl, the guest relations manager, checked us in. I told her of my experience and frustration, and she promised to make up for it and make sure our stay was special. Most of the request I had from booking a table at a restaurant in the resort, which was already fully booked when we arrived to our city tour, was also efficiently handled by Sheryl. She even sent us a bottle of sparkling wine and a fruit platter to our suite. When I needed some items from housekeeping, Sheryl surprisingly answered my call. As she knew we were celebrating a birthday, she also made sure to serve a birthday cake and a selection of desserts at dinner. I am unsure how our stay would have gone if not for Sheryl. The hotel itself is, of course, beautiful. Jean Michel Gathy did a stunning job designing the property, especially the public spaces, more than 20 years ago. It is not a brand new property but is superbly maintained. The gym and spa are impressive, and the pool, all three of them, was a sight to behold. I have to say the beach is a bit underwhelming, but this isn't the hotel's fault. As for the suite, I have mixed feelings about it. It is spacious, but the lighting is dark, the pillows flat, and the two guests per room limit are somewhat strange given our suite was 70 sqm with enough room for a fold-out bed. We booked a sea view suite, which overlooks the gardens and the beach, but the windows are tiny, so the only way to enjoy the view is to go outside. It is a missed opportunity for me. Needless to say, we still had a wonderful stay at the Chedi, thanks mainly to Sheryl and the sheer beauty of its architecture and the design of its public areas. As for the reasons I couldn't give it a 5-star rating, the sea view suite needs an upgrade and a redesign, and the service issues prior to arrival.

Service was excellent and the staff were attentive and extremely helpful. The property was clean and very pleasant and restaurant offerings are pretty good too. Pillows weren’t great though, too flat and bed was very soft. We couldn’t understand the need to turn on all the fire pits in summer though so that was rather unpleasant. And mosquitoes were around especially at night.

It appears that the management/ownership of this otherwise well regarded hotel are not paying attention to basic details as far as room facilities and 5 star expectations. Very disappointing given the otherwise pristine outdoor facilities and tailored gardens. Here is a list of what we faced as we checked into our club room, (the superior category rooms, with pricing to go with. 1) minibar has plenty of soft drinks, but only 2 beer bottles. No other alcoholic drinks, that are suposedly complementary with this category of room. 2) No bottle opener and no glasses for consuming any of those drinks, 3) two early century Bose speaker systems that are no longer compatible with today's technology, have no Bluetooth connectivity, and even if you happen to have a first generation iPod or a CD collection in your travel bag, well neither of them works, which is unsurprising that one of them wasn't connected to the mains, and even after struggling to plug the european charger in a UK sockey, refused to start. So we complained to room service, and to our positive surprise, were gracious enough to add to the beer stock and to offer us a complimentary wine bottle (with glasses to drink it with 😀)

We had the nicest time at the Chedi! It’s perfect to relax and leave all stress behind! The beauty of the whole place, the rooms, the restaurants, the gardens and pools make you feel like you are in paradies. It was always so fun to see the amazed faces of the people being there for the first time! The stuff ist especially nice and comforting! We want to thank Shwe Dondon for making us feel so welcomed! She is extraordinarily nice and kind and was also helpful with all our requests. Also we like to thank Akon, Abbas and Hazaa for the great time we had in the grande lounge! If you need to relax or just want to be in most beautiful, warm-hearted surroundings The Chedi ist perfect!
