we first came here in August 2015 and loved it - great hospitality, lovely quirky and comfortable rooms and excellent food.We came again this year and were equally impressed - we'll go back next year! The hotel in a modern renovation of an old property in the mediaeval heart of St Macaire. The décor is contemporary and very comfortable, the... More

I was very much looking forward to my stay here as the wee town of Saint Macaire sounded and looked beautiful. Firstly...be warned. A car or bicycle is ESSENTIAL here. We got a train from Bordeaux to Langon and from there it is either a 30-40 minute walk, or a taxi which you might wait an hour for. There are... More

But not with regards to the facilities. We arrived on spec and were shown a charming room overlooking the alley to the front of the mediaeval building. The hosts spoke some English, but were happy and polite enough not to laugh too much at my French. Our room was furnished with all the usual comforts, including free Wifi and a... More

We stayed here on the second night of our bike trip sadly we did not have time to use the spa which looked great. Our room was just stunning!! The restaurant food was fabulous and staff excellent, if you get the chance to visit this town then do! My only regret is we did not try a pancake at the... More

I suspect you will be taking the road less travelled if you spend time in St Macaire. It's a delightful, quiet little medieval town and this was a surprisingly great spot to stay. IF you wander the streets, many of the buildings are unused and falling into disrepair, so it's great that this hotel is re-purposing a lovely solid old... More

Second night on our bike trip we had the pleassure of staying here, unfortunately for one night only. The staff was welcoming and helpful, the restaurant had great food and great wine. In addition the breakfast was what we needed, so all in all this place had all we could wish for in a wonderful medevial towm.

We stayed here on our cycling tour of Bordeaux. St Macaire is a hidden gem. A walled medieval town like St Emilion but without the tourists. This does mean there are fewer amenities so we ate (very well) in the hotel restaurant

Quite hotel in a little town in Sauterne area. Proprietor assisted us with directions to a local winery where we are able to taste some Sauternes. Our room was large, cool ( it was 38degrees when we arrived) with a bathroom which had both a bath and a shower. We needed to cool the bottle of Sauterne before we could... More

Stayed one night in May when over for a relative's wedding. Very impressed with the hotel, received a very warm welcome and the whole place has been very tastefully modernised while keeping all the charm of the old building. Food in the restaurant was excellent.

Stayed here on second night of cycling holiday. A definite step up from previous night. Hotel is cute and attached to local creperie and restaurant. Building dates back over 300 years but nicely refurbished. Although almost a bed and breakfast the hosts are welcoming. There is a small jacuzzi! Good after a hard day's cycling. Rooms are on two floors... More
