This charming inn, set in the countryside outside of the village of Sainte Gemme, offers a secluded & restful retreat from touring the area by car or by bike (which our situation). Normally a bed & breakfast, the owners, Emelie & Florian, will provide lunch &/or supper on request. The rooms are huge & beautifully appointed, with comfortable beds. There is a large swimming pool set in a garden overlooking the rolling countryside. The meals were delicious & all homemade. Emelie & Florian are a delightful young couple, who both speak English. They have put a lot of love into this property & it shows. I would highly recommend a stay here for a quiet getaway.

The new owners of the Manoir are Florian and Emilie, a delightful and energetic couple in their 30's. They have created a peaceful haven in a gorgeous corner of the Bordeaux wine region. We spent two delightful days enjoying their outgoing, friendly hospitality. Florian and Emilie have the rare talent of making a visitor literally feel at home. We stayed in the big house (wonderful) but would like to return with family members, so we looked in on the larger gite. It would be perfect for a large family get-together. (Message to all of my siblings: "renew your passports!") We WILL be back!

We loved the ambiance, scenery, and culture. The manor is very clean and has some interesting antiques. We would stay here again! Emile and her parents welcomed our large group of 11 into their home after a long day of cycling. I hope to come back to the region with my husband.

The family suite was fantastic. 2 very spacious rooms joined by a big bathroom in an old fortified farm. Emilie and Florian are super nice people and helped us plan trips around this less famous region of Bordeaux.

Sadly after reading reviews I am struggling to give a more positive review. The good things about the property were that it was so relaxing and the views were absolutely delightful. The pool area was peaceful and relaxing although the pool furniture a little haphazard. However this Manor House could be so much better. It has everything going for it but lacks something. First of all our bedroom was huge but there was a really dangerous heavy beam. It did not affect me as I am very small but my husband went crashing into it and cut his head. Of course he should have been more careful but it is definitely a hazard for average height people. The bed was large but creaky and old with no pillows just some old cushions. It made sleeping there very very uncomfortable. What amazed me more though was that our room was not cleaned until I asked. After asking the first time I was embarrassed to ask again almost like we were dirty people. Bearing in mind that I was there for four days I had to ask for new towels on the third day as they were not drying and had a musty smell. As an establishment this should be automatic unless people actually ask for their room not to be cleaned. I didn't like this and felt it was a lazy way out. For me the facilities were alright although because it is far from a village and not within walking distance it is hard not to want more facilities but I understand what they are doing. It is get away from it all. I did buy an expensive bottle of wine from Emilie and found it was a 2009. I am a wine expert teaching the subject so I know what I am talking about. Although the wine was not corked it was way past its best and tasted very oaky. Whatever is said about this I would have liked a fresher vintage perhaps two to three years old. My party didn't say anything and drank it but for me it was disappointing. Would I return? If the beds and housekeeping had been run as they should be yes I would as the area and situation is peaceful. However I do want to have a good nights sleep and I expect cleanliness as a given. For that reason it is off the radar for me. Their dog is a wonderful dog and so friendly. I am sorry that the owners found my grandchildren annoying. That is the nature of very young children so I would say if you have children who run and enjoy pool life look for another establishment.

Response from Manoirdegaboria, Propriétaire at Manoir de Gaboria
Responded Aug 8, 2019

This was the highlight stay of an 8 night Bordeaux cycling trip that also included 5* hotels in Bordeaux and St-Emilion. Compliments to Emilie the host whose warmth and superb taste take this place from "good" to "sublime". Gold stars too to her helpers, Gaia the dog and the 3 friendly cats who also made us feel so much at home. Very rural spot in pretty, hilly part of southern Bordeaux, great biking on small quiet roads. Rooms are large and very private, everything at dinner and breakfast was homemade with care. The pool has an amazing "bucolic" view and was cold but very refreshing in the July heat! Emilie keeps an excellent wine cellar and will sell you a bottle at a very fair price (closer to a shop than a restaurant price). Although this place is very secluded, the distances are not very far so lots accessible by bike and could definitely be a base for most of the Bordeaux region if you have a car. We would like to return with all our friends :) - only one downside - no air conditioning.

We chose Manoir de Gaboria as we were visiting family and wanted a break to spend time together as a family.
I smile now as I sit and write this review as our stay was lovely.
Amazing private location, stunning rooms, fantastic pool, lovely charming breakfasts and our children were made to feel welcome.
Emilie did everything we needed, smiled at our broken French ( even though she spoke excellent English), provided us with excellent wine ( late into the evening) and on the day we left ( early in the morning) left us a special breakfast which we happily ate at the airport.
We will definitely be back and promise that you too will enjoy your time here.
Thank you.

The Manoir, Gardens and large pool are really beautiful. Florian and Emilie met us with a warm welcome. We had opted for the Monsegur Gite which was very spacious and would comfortably accommodate four in the two ensuite bedrooms. High standards of cleanliness are maintained throughout.

The thick walls of the Manoir ensured that temperatures inside stayed comfortable even in July and the living area with it's high ceilings provided a useful space for relaxing in the evenings.

The area around Monsegur and Duras is really beautiful with lots of events and sights to see.

Thank you for a lovely stay

A peaceful oasis. Large comfortable rooms. Excellent homemade southern French food. Emilie and Florian were wonderful hosts. They made us feel very welcome without being intrusive. The scenery is beautiful and it feels as though you are far away from the bustle of the city, but within an hour drive from Bordeaux.
