We have just spent 3 amazing and memorable nights at Mandapa, I have to say it is the best 5-star hotels I have ever stayed. The whole resort was beautifully designed beside the Ayung River, with their own rice paddy field in the middle of the resort. The facilities are kept in prestigious condition, but what makes this property outstanding is the people, each and every person we encountered in the resort is soooo nice and cheering, no matter at the restaurant or poolside, whenever they see you out there, you will immediately get their attention. The resort manager Ms. Reka also waited us at the lobby in the last night for greeting, which is very kind. Last but not least, a special thank to our lovely butler Ms. Sharleen, she has been very helpful and accommodating during our stay, and able to think our needs ahead, my kids love her so much! On the last day before we left she prepared some little gift for the kids and my younger daughter immediately burst into tears when she opened the gift box and saw the Mandapa keychain inside. Quoting a comment from my daughter “we have been staying at so many hotels in the world, they were just hotels to me, but Mandapa is home, everyone in Mandapa is treating us like family.” It’s a place you must go in a life time, see you next time Mandapa!

I have no idea where to begin with this one. If I had to describe everything about the Mandapa experience in a single word, it would be exceptional. Pictures do not really do this property justice. As amazing as pictures and videos are in helping tell a story, nothing had prepared me for that first initial view we had from the lobby overlooking this beautiful and intimate property. We were welcomed by the GM of the Mandapa and our Butler Tapsir who presented us with both cold towels and welcome drinks. We were given the opportunity of a property tour or going right to our villa and we gladly opted for the tour. From there, Tapsir drove us down the winding paths into the heart of this resort. Everything seemingly was a blur and I couldn’t work the camera fast enough while also trying to take it all in! Just when I thought it could not get any better, we ended up at our villa. The entry fountains leading into a courtyard with an open air living room on one side and main building with bathroom and bedroom on the other flanked with private swimming pool in between was the hotel retreat dreams are made of. This place exceeds thoughtful design, there is intricate detail abound in every room. At first, we had to force ourselves to leave the room and explore the resort; then remind ourselves to leave the resort to actually explore surrounding Ubud. Thankfully, we had the means and foresight to extend our time at this resort to 5 nights. The original 3 night plan would not have been enough time to enjoy the resort as well as see some of the sights of Ubud. FOOD: We had an incredible daily breakfast at Sawah Terrace and split our dinners between Sawah Terrace and Kubu. If you leave breakfast and still feel hungry, something is amiss. Aside from the rotating buffet items, sushi, egg and noodle station, there was also a separate menu that had made to order specialty items. My partner is vegetarian and even commented that he had a difficult time choosing between so many specialty items. Sawah Terrace specialized in Balinese dinners overlooking the Ayung River from above, while Kubu specialized in a gourmet degustation menu or an a la carte gourmet menu on the banks of the Ayung. You can’t go wrong with either and if you want to eat in, the room service menu is equally extensive! SPA: What a beautiful use of space! I know we did have the option of going into Ubud and getting significantly reduced rate massages, but had we done that we would have missed out on a much grander experience. From the time we were walked back to the treatment rooms until we were sat in the tiered post treatment rooms overlooking the Ayung watching rafters sail by everything was near flawless. The Spa was yet another amazing piece to the Mandapa experience. SERVICE LEVELS: Mandapa staff went beyond genuine attention to detail and encompassed a level of pride that was exuded by each individual we encountered. We spent a day traveling around Ubud on an organized open air VW tour through the hotel and what we saw and learned just enhanced the experience. Everyone we met and spoke with went beyond to make us feel as if we were family. Prior to our arrival Angelene from the reservations team and Rina from the personal explorer team couldn’t have been more accommodating and responsive with their communications and setting us up for an amazing stay! Angelene helped us with several of the changes to our reservations and was always quick to provide with us all the information we had requested including arranging our transfers to and from the Mandapa. She got us in touch with Rina who worked to secure our VW tour and all dining reservations. Literally, all we had to do was show up; everything was taken care of. Departure was bitter sweet for us. How does one go to another property after this type of experience? As we left, the Alfred they had been arranged had hand woven snack baskets and a note waiting for us. Even after our departure, little fine details like this continued to deliver on such an impactful and lasting impression. You have thousands of options of places to stay if you are ever fortunate enough to visit Bali. For us, we wanted to split our time between the beach and the Ubud parts of Bali and knowing that we may only be able to visit Bali once, wanted to have that extraordinary, once in a lifetime experience. Mandapa checked all of our boxes and left us with hundreds of photos and memories the will last a lifetime!

My husband and I celebrated our 3rd year anniversary at this beautiful place. Paradise indeed! We were so blessed and well taken care of by every single staff that it would be impossible to name them all. Everything was so luxurious and a dream! The GM of the property even came to welcome us while we checked in and wished us for our special occasion. I highly recommend the spa, I know that there are so many places around Bali to get a cheaper massage and relaxation time but this spa is a next level type of relaxation and luxury combined. Thank you to the whole team!

My wife and I accidentally stumbled across the Mandapa Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Ubud, Bali. I say stumbled because we had initially been booked at another Marriott property on the beach to celebrate our 39th anniversary. Thanks to the G20 summit, the Indonesian delegation decided to requisition the entire hotel, so about two months before our trip, the hotel notified us that our reservations were canceled. Marriott, being Marriott, promptly offered us a couple of other choices, with the Mandapa Ritz-Carlton Reserve being one. When the day arrived that we reached the resort, for once, I was grateful for politicians. I struggle to find the right words to describe Mandapa, and I apologize for the length of this review; however, there is no way to adequately do this place justice in only a few sentences. It is impossible not to use adjectives like excellent, great, or fantastic to describe Mandapa. Of course, it is all those things, but Mandapa is much more. It is one of only five unique Ritz-Carlton Reserves in the entire world. The Ritz-Reserves are all smaller properties with less than 100 rooms. Mandapa has only sixty. But don’t let the limited number of rooms fool you. It is large and well-stocked, with plenty of services, restaurants, pools, a spa, and all the majestic scenery you could want for a tropical forest getaway. From the moment you arrive at the entrance to the resort, you know right away that this place is “next level.” When we decided to take this option, my wife and I watched a few videos by travel bloggers showing how beautiful and unique the property and the staff were, but we were unprepared for just how breathtaking it was. As we pulled into the main entrance, we were immediately greeted by the warm and lovely smiles of the management team and then taken to the Wantilan or Welcome Pavilion for a welcoming drink and refreshingly cool towel. There, my wife and I finally got to see the view for the first time, and oh my, what a view! As we stood there looking down on this paradise, we had goosebumps on our arms and tears in our eyes. Mandapa is situated in a small valley with steep walls and a river running through the middle. Its buildings and villas fan out towards the bottom of the valley as if to say, welcome to my sanctuary. In the middle of the property lie, neat rice paddies attended to regularly and providing rice for the resort. There is also a temple and a massive children’s play area where some of the resort's cows and chickens are kept for show and tell. We were then introduced to our butler for the stay, Parmini. I cannot say enough nice things about this lady. She was exceptional in every way. She ensured our every need was met and had the strangest knack for anticipating what we wanted even before we asked. In an email exchange with the resort staff, I mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary during our stay. Parmini and the team went above and beyond to ensure it was the most memorable. Whenever we returned to our villa or a restaurant, there were flowers, treats, notes, and cards. We could not have been made to feel more special. After we toured the property by golf cart, Parmini took us to our villa, which would be our home for the next five nights. It was even more spectacular than the pictures. Complete with a private pool, a main living area with a bedroom and beautiful bathroom, and a separate building for lounging around watching TV or relaxing after a swim. Flowers, trees, and walls surround the villa, and you instantly feel the security and assurance of complete privacy. Several warm notes of welcome and some local treats were also waiting for us. The villa was immaculate in cleanliness, neatness, and beauty. For dinner that night, we went to the Sawah Terrace. A beautiful restaurant overlooking the property with spectacular views and warm and sweet staff who waited on us hand and foot. We told our lovely waitress, Wiwik, that this was our first time in Bali, and she expertly guided us through the menu, explaining the various dishes and flavors we were about to experience. As expected, the food was delicious, and the presentations were perfect. Over our five days, we got to know many of the staff at the Sawah Terrace. Jordi, Mia, Ari, Nova, and Ada, the assistant chef, became like family with plenty of good-natured fun and language lessons in Balinese and Indonesian. They made every meal there a fun, inspiring, and unforgettable experience. We also had the pleasure of dining at the Kubu restaurant. This beautiful place is situated on the bank of the river, so you not only have the beauty of the design but the calming sound of the river as you eat gourmet Mediterranean cuisine. Our waitress there, Dewi, a sweet young lady with dreams of traveling the world, and the chef, ensured that our culinary journey was one we would not soon forget. If you go, book a table early as the best ones are in a cocoon facing the river. Mandapa offers a long list of activities while you are there, from kid’s activities to yoga, to private culinary and sightseeing tours; there is no shortage of things to do. Though my wife and I were thrilled to enjoy the resort by itself, we decided it would be fun to see a bit of the island, so we booked a VW tour. Our tour guide for the day, Wayan boy, or just boy, as he claims he will never grow old, was a wealth of information, humor, and fun. After showing us a map of the island, he and his driver took us to several temples, including one of the oldest on the island and a UNESCO World Heritage site. All the while, Boy explained the local customs and culture. We finished the day with a tasty lunch at a beautiful outdoor restaurant overlooking the deep green, immaculate ledges of a giant rice field. As a tourist in Bali, there can be few things more fun than zipping around the island in an old VW convertible while enjoying the magnificent beauty and scenery. It was an incredible experience. Since we were there to celebrate our anniversary, my wife and I decided to indulge ourselves with a spa day. Under the direction of Dwi, the Mandapa Spa is a world-class luxury spa. Located next to the river and infused with the sounds of flowing water, you feel yourself decompressing even before you get to the front desk. Our therapists for the experience, Kariani, and Ariami, were two of the best. They welcomed us with a sweet, handwritten anniversary message and a beautiful flower arrangement. My wife and I have never felt so relaxed, calm, and serene as we did after a session with these two miracle workers. Between meals and in the evenings, we liked to relax at the Library and the Pool Bar. These spacious and comfortable outdoor areas were perfect for sipping on one of mix master Pastika’s unique and fantastic beverage creations while chatting with Oka, the assistant manager, or one of the lovely waitresses Juli, Ayuu, or Era. The whole team there helps to create a warm and relaxing vibe that, combined with the beautiful view, makes you forget your troubles, relax, and enjoy life. A special shout out to Gusti for always making sure everything was perfect. At the end of each day, when we returned to our villa, we were always greeted with fresh flowers, treats, and personalized messages from the vast team of housekeepers. On the day of our actual anniversary, when we came back after dinner, they went above and beyond by surprising us with more sweet messages, flowers, candles, and candy. They even spelled Happy Anniversary on the floor in giant letters made from flower petals. We were speechless. When our day of departure finally arrived, there were tears in our eyes as we said our goodbyes to our new friends. The perfect combination of outstanding staff and a gorgeous property made this year's anniversary at the Mandapa the most memorable and fantastic my wife and I have ever had. This place is the gold standard of luxury resorts. If you are looking for an ideal getaway from the crazy, fast-paced world of today, and if you are looking for perfection in a resort, then indulge yourself in the magic of Mandapa.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Mandapa Ritz-Carlton Reserve this past week. It was an amazing experience as the staff made our stay very memorable. I will admit, that the road into Mandapa was a little sketchy but once past the gate, the property is incredible. The views from the main lobby and our suite were postcard worthy. Our Butler Marka's service was outstanding. We met many of the staff including Head Butler Beny and the Director of Spa Dwi who spoke to us on a number of occasions, made us feel very welcome and at home. The food was also some of the best in Bali. We dined at Kubu which was delicious but we were very impressed with the breakfast at Sawah Terrace. It was probably the best breakfast buffet I have been to. The hotel incorporates much of the Balinese culture and the staff is great at sharing that knowledge with the guests. I would highly recommend staying here.
