We loved our stay at the new Kikonko Lodge. We came from Kampala for a weekend away, looking to combine some relaxation with unique activities, and we got exactly what we came for.

The location is excellent, perched on the Albertine Rift, with views of Lake Albert below. The guest cottages dotted around the property have private verandas where you can wind down and take in the lake views.
There are also plenty of activities to do around the lodge, making it worth staying a few extra days to explore the area. The staff were very helpful and recommended several activities that they arranged for us. We can highly recommend the forest walk in Bugoma Forest Reserve. We saw lots of birds, butterflies and learned much about the different species of trees. A chimpanzee habituation program is underway here and while you cannot do chimpanzee tracking right now, you may be lucky to spot one during your walk!

The staff is very welcoming and attentive, the food delicious, and great attention to detail and effort has been put into the interior decoration, which is tastefully presented and uses local materials in very creative ways. Responsible travelers will appreciate the lodge's dedication to sustainable practices. The lodge is fully driven by solar power, there is no plastic on site and safely filtered water is available free of charge.

Our favorite place in the lodge was the pool and bar area, which offers gorgeous views of Lake Albert and, on a clear day, you can even see the Blue Mountains of the DRC. In the evening we had drinks by the pool while watching hundreds of twinkling lights below coming from fishing boats going out for the night catch.

Thank you for a memorable stay, we can't wait to be back!

We did not want to go all the way from Fort Portal to Murchison Falls in one day, therefore we booked us into Kikonko Lodge. And I am very happy that we stayed for two nights rather than just one. The lodge is brand new, the rooms and the main lodge very stylish. The beds were very comfortable and you could even come for the perfect shower alone. Good water pressure and hot - the best shower we had on our journey.

We also enjoyed the great view onto Lake Albert from the main lodge and our room. Staff was attentative and friendly. The food was very tasty. There is also a swimming pool.

On the first evening a staff member took us on a walking tour to watch the sunset. Next time I would take a beer with me.

The next day - on recommendation of the manager - we spent a fantastic day at Bugoma Forest, where there are also some chimps (not yet habituated though). We did not see any, but got lots of information about all the plants, insects and how to survive in the forest.

The manager Albrecht was always accessible and is also up for a chat. I can highly recommend making the short detour to Kikonko Lodge.

The Kikonko Lodge is the perfect stopover between Queen Elisabeth NP and Murchison Falls NP. The lodge is very tastefully decorated, has a bright and open concept, and it is the ideal place to relax and unwind. It offers stunning views of Lake Albert (especially at night when the lights of the fisherboats shine on the lake) and has a nice and clean pool area with gorgeous views. The room was spacious, very clean, and the bed was very comfortable. A nice detail: The owners follow a sustainable approach and there was an ecological soap bar in the bathroom to use. The food was delicious and more varied (we could order an italian Lasagna) than in many other lodges we stayed at. The staff was fantastic and very welcoming. We enjoyed our stay at Kikonko Lodge very much and would definitely come again.

This property is an absolute hideout. Its located on top of the escarpment with a perfect view of Lake Albert. All the cottages have private balconies with views stretching towards the lake. The property is well modeled with art pieces found in every corner. Staffs at this lodge are so lovely; they are ever smiling, warm and always available to help. The rooms are so spacious and the restaurant is a piece of work. The swimming pool is just adjacent to the fully stocked bar making your chill fabulous. To sum it all, the location of the property is just on point; surrounded by very many attractions from Lake Albert, Kabwoya game reserve, Bugoma forest, a waterfall etc ridding you off boredom. Highly recommended property.

Kikonko Lodge is just the place you want to be for some real peace and quiet.
It is just 3.5 hours out of Kampala. 34kms out of Hoima atop an escarpment across the blue mountains of Congo overlooking Lake Albert. It is scenic and it is beautiful.
In the valley below is a fishing village perilously close to the lake shores and suffering the rising water levels.
With only 6 rooms, this is the kind of place you can hijack as a family and make truly your home away from home at least for a couple of days.
The chef Stella is truly gifted! Gorrettie who attended to us single handedly throughout our stay was the picture of excellence. Attentive responsive and always there. Mike at the gate is always smiling a bright welcome.
Don’t forget to go to the viewing deck. You will want to move your bed there.
If you are strong enough to walk down to the fishing village take lots of sunscreen and hydration and save some energy to bring you back to the Lodge.
The view at night is breathtaking! I was convinced there was a little city at the foot of the mountains. I learnt in the morning that it was only a myriad of lights from fishing boats.
The friendly dogs Simba and Jaguar deserve special mention too.

This Lodge is a worthwhile stop over extremely nice for a cold beer and is just 30 mins lovely drive from Hoima Town. The staff & the pets we're warm & very kind & the views of Lake Albert from the rift valley Clift side were breath taking. The lake appears to be on a slope but that's logically Impossible. You will spend a few minutes figuring out how mother nature works. It's a place for peace, quiet & ideas

Kikoko lodge is off the beaten path but is a must-visit for anyone seeking serenity and a nature reboot. The lodge is situated on an embankment and commands a stunning view of Lake Albert and more. I like the fact that its an ecolodge and I appreciated all the efforts they have taken to make this a reality and not just a marketing gimmick. This is not the Four Seasons but everything is functional and true to the surroundings. The food is nice and the staff do their best to ensure that you are comfortable and have a great experience. The kids loved it here too and we all wished we’d spent another night but they were sold out. I highly recommend Kikonko Lodge and will be back soon.

We truly loved the elegant and peaceful atmosphere in this brand-new lodge. The staff was very eager to make every wish come true for us and always greeted us with a smile. The food was delicious and home-made. The rooms are wonderfully decorated and very spacious and most importantly have an amazing view over the lake and if you are lucky at the Blue Mountains of the Congo. And the birds!!! There are so many of them so that you nearly can't leave your veranda when you are watching them!

We will certainly be back!

The view is amazing, the food delicious and the staff very friendly. It’s very relaxed and quiet as they just have about 6 rooms at the moment. It’s nice to visit the salt mines and please come with an egg ;-). We forgot. There is also a waterfall nearby, it’s nice for mountain biking as well. On a clear day you have can see the blue Congo mountains and at night all the lights on the shore. I also love that it is fully eco. Purified water in bottles at no extra charge, also in your room and everything runs on solar. Please visit ♥️.

Only 3,5hours away from Kampala, Kikonko lodge offers the perfect weekend getaway! If you want peace, tranquillity and breath taking views this is the place for you. The rooms are well furnished, clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and Danstone the manager goes the extra mile to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible! Kabwoya game reserve is only 30min away if you'd like to see some antelopes, buffaloes, a few primates and birds.
Very child friendly, our kids enjoyed the warm swimming pool and the zipline.
The food was good and the chef accommodated our various tastes, preferences and dietary restrictions.
The restaurant service was a bit slow at times and we communicated this to the staff on the ground.
Our son loved Simbi the in-house dog but we weren't too fond of the cats, this is something management should look into as they appeared at meal time and were quite a distraction for non-cat lovers like us.
Overall great place i recommend it 100% and will definitely be going back!

Dear Presh, Thank you for your very honest feedback, because it greatly helps us to improve. You are right that the cats can be very annoying and we have resorted to locking them up during meal times, especially when we know that the clients are not too fond of them. However, they have an important role to play to keep Kikonko free of creepy crawlers and rodents. So far they are doing this brilliantly! We are also working on the speed of our restaurant service, because of course we want to ensure that we fulfill your wishes a 100% in the fastest way possible. We look forward to hosting you and your friends any time again! All the best, Stefanie (director and investor)
