The wonderful uncontaminated nature of a tropical island, 20 miles from the coast, is an unexplored tourist destination. There are six Eco Bandas, each with an en-suite bathroom open to the sky for hot showers under the stars; distributed along the main beach to guarantee privacy, each with a view of the ocean. My friend and I visited last week with high expectations. Those expectations were exceeded. The island itself is so beautiful my mind couldn’t even have imagined it. What was equally exceeded was the staff. Thank you so much Wilson,Chef Abdul,Nasir (waiter extraordinary), Hakim

A truly amazing place for couples who love water and enjoy delicious food! The lodge is an eco-lodge, therefore no A/C but the constant wind makes it so enjoyable. Besides the fantastic landscape setting, the staff at the lodge are smiley, professional and give you so much space

Dear trishmontauk, I hope I can help you with a few answers to your questions about what to expect on Fanjove. February is one of the hotter months in Tanzania and so it is good to be prepared to expect temperatures ranging from 30-35 degrees during the daytime. Being surrounded by the water it can also be a bit humid. There is a fan in each room above the bed. There are sometimes a few mosquitos in the evenings if there is no breeze but the housekeepers will put down mosquito nets over your bed and spray insect-repellent inside. I hope this was helpful, Kind Regards, Johan & Laura Fanjove Management

Dear Jane, Apologies for the late response. June and July are during the Kazkazi season (Southerly Winds) so the sea conditions can be wavy. Having said that, this did not prevent us from doing any activities this year and Dives, Dolphin Excursions and Snorkeling still went forward successfully over those months. This year we had turtle nests during that time, which hatched in July, but they can be hatching anytime from June to September depending on when the nest is layed. For the seahorses, it is possible to see them. We usually find them in the grass flats just off the beach of Fanjove. We usually take a tank and do a shallow dive for this because they can be very well camouflaged but we have had people find them (very seldom) by snorkeling too. I hope this was helpful and please let me know if there are any follow up questions. Kind Regards, Laura, Johan & The Fanjove Team

We were there at the end of October and the weather was fabulous and people had successful dives every day. It's true the winds change at that time of year when the sun crosses the equator on the equinox but I've not heard of this wind situation. There's a technical document online: Wind Patterns of Coastal Tanzania: Their Variability and Trends. You should contact Fanjove and ask them their opinion.
