Located on the shores of Indian Ocean, about 320kms South of Dar es Salaam city and East of the Famous Selous Game Reserve, i and my business partner decided in a short time to visit Kilwa for short research and study of the Kilwa history, it took us about less than 5hour to arrive to the hotel from Dar es Salaam. Suleiman the manager was very accommodating, he arranged us the best guide for Kilwa Kisiwani, Songo Mnara and Kilwa Kivinje tour. KImbilio Lodge has rooms set in a form of hut, very good for privacy, the rooms has mosquito nets, hot shower and big space. The food was seafood at very reasonable price. staff are very friendly and helpful and informative.
Beautiful place on the long beach where enjoy relaxing walking and swimming. Amazing welcoming by Betty and all her staff. The position is perfect to visit Kilwa Kisiwani UNESCO world heritage site and also to experience local village life style in Masoko.
We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Kimbilio. The setting is beautiful and tranqil. Rooms are simple but clean and secure and right on the beach. Food is very tasty and well presented. The staff are friendly and service is good. The Italian caretakers Alfredo and Elisabetta are helpful and interesting to talk to. We certainly recommend Kimbilio as a quality place to stay in Kilwa. Lio is the resident dog with a wonderful nature and makes for great company when everyone else is too busy to pay attention to you. A visit to the Kilwa ruins is well worth it. I recommend you go with a guide to the island. Guide can be arranged through the lodge.
I stayed at Kimibilio lodge with my husband for 3 nights. I would recommend this place to anyone : the bungalows are literally on the beach, it's as close as you can get in Kilwa. You can heare the waves at night and feel the fresh breeze of the sea. The service was excellent, everyone was very nice to us and really tried for us to have the best stay. The food was really excellent : fresh seafood/fish every day, a mix of italian and Swahili food, with each time something special. The Hotel facilitated the tour for us with an external guide. We did one full day of visiting the two island and one day resting at the beach. We are living in Dar, and it is easily reachable by car. Sadly we are leaving Tanzania soon but would have come back if we had new this place before.
The staff of Kimbilio goes out of their way to be extremely helpful. The seafood (served at every meal) is some of the best we had during our two months in Tanzania. Huge shrimp, tasty fish and kabobs and cold beers! The bandas face the ocean and the beach is sandy and clean, terrific for swimming.
