The Barrel Inn is located in a remote picturesque location at the top of a hill about 5km west of Grindleford. It is popular with walkers for a drink / pub meal and it also serves restaurant style meals. A group of us dined there recently and overall it was good food if a bit overpriced. There were a couple...

We visited on Sunday, part of a large group and everyone having food. When the waitress brought our soup order she commented on one being noticeably smaller than the other. The smaller portion was taken away and brought back a little fuller, however it had been topped up with hot water, rather than with more soup, and was therefore quite...

The Barrel is a proper pub with a few ensuite rooms across the courtyard. The rooms are small but clean and cosy. The breakfast could be improved with the addition of fruit and muesli, and the vegetarian choices are limited but of decent quality. What lifts this above the rest of the competition are the staff and the view! The...

Stopped here for a meal after a very long walk! We both went for the toad in the hole which was absolutely wonderful! My partner had never tried it (!) and he thought it was brilliant. The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming and they made sure they accommodated us despite us not having a reservation. The view at sunset...

This is a great B&B high up on the hill in Bretton, near Eyam and a short drive away from Bakewell. We stayed here on a Saturday night having been at a wedding in Bakewell. The view from outside the pub is incredible - a wide panorama of rolling Peak district hills. It might feel a little isolated but this...

We called in for a drink after a walk around Eyam. Entered the bar and waited for the barmaid to finish her phone call and still waited while she babbled on about hope you enjoy this and hope you enjoy that and realised this was a social call so we were just about to leave when she put the phone...

My sister and I were participating in a charity event local to The Barrel Inn and we certainly chose the perfect place to stay! We couldn't have asked for a more friendly welcome, the room was absolutely perfect and the views speak for themselves, a simply stunning location! We eat in the restaurant both nights and could not fault it....
