Palazzo Margherita for me is a dream come true. Its magical gardens, the family gathering in the magnificent salon for whatever purpose; celebretions, intimate teas or evenings of films. It is a painted palace, with frescos on its ceilings and walls, palatial rooms with countless details, modern in terms of its systems, music and cinema available like hot and cold running water; yet the patina of its epoch is preserved, and when the children are there, delight is everywhere.Francis Ford Coppola

This may be the best place to stay EVER! It is beautiful and thoughtfully appointed. The staff is superb. Food is wonderful. Francis Ford Coppola thought of everything (except perhaps the lighting in our bedroom). It is in a small town with a wonderful old-fashioned atmosphere. The television offers many movies, all of Coppola's and lots of Italian ones, too. It's really a treat.

The minute you arrive you feel like you’ve been welcomed into a family members home for a visit... but clearly a really awesome family member! Whether it’s the kitchen that’s open for you to watch, eat in or experience how to make fresh homemade pasta or the living room where you can enjoy a drink and watch a movie! The service is IMPECCABLE! Besides the decor, the luxurious surroundings, and the staff we absolutely felt the food was among the best we had in all of Italy! A day trip to Alberobello and to make pottery was a lovely excursion.

This place is great. You get very pampered, and the grounds are beautiful. They cater to whatever you want, and you can take your meals anywhere on the grounds that you want. We ate primarily in the ‘kitchen’ because you could watch them make your dinner, and it was cozy. The different lounging areas are cool, and the room locations mean that you hardly see anyone else except if they eat at the same time as you. The little old town of Bernalda is kind of sad, but the hotel itself is nice.

I’ve been fortunate enough to stay in many 5 star hotels on holiday around the world - and the Palazzo Margherita is very possibly the best of the lot. The service is impeccable, whether it be from the kitchen and waiting staff, the front of house staff, or the pool and cleaning staff. They are all extremely polite and professional and are clearly set up to make every hotel guest feel welcome and special. The bed room was excellent, equipped with top notch fittings and furnishings. The whole thing has been superbly designed to be light and spacious and was spotlessly clean. The wider hotel has lovely gardens and a great pool. The main courtyard where the food is served is tasteful and welcoming. And the food. Wow! Excellent. And reasonably priced considering this is a first class hotel, with a salad at €15 and a main at around €24. Pizza at around €15. Yes, the rooms at the hotel are expensive and is not the place to go if you’re on a budget. But it’s a stunning place to spend time time relaxing and enjoying the service and food. You can also use it as a base to travel to nearby Matera with it’s historical caves, or the beautiful sandy beaches that line the coast. Very highly recommended

I’ve just stayed 2 nights with my husband at the Palazzo. Words can’t describe enough what a wonderful experience it was. From the minute we arrived to leaving we were truely looked after. Our room was the garden suite which we choose for it’s position next to the pool and also because we thought it would be quieter and more spacious. We were not disappointed. It was huge and equipped with top of the range television, sound system , mini bar (which was free) and full size and luxurious bathroom products which were ours to keep. The grounds to the hotel are lovely with a beautiful courtyard, sun terrace and pool and lush gardens. Service was friendly , very attentive and professional. The food was great and very good value for a five star hotel. We paid more for meals in less luxurious hotels. Breakfast was delicious- pastries, fruit, hams and cheeses and eggs cooked to order. A lot of people criticise the hotel for the fact that there is not much to do in the area! Are you kidding - you have a private beach club less than 15mins away, Craco which is a deserted town used in lots of films just 30 mins and the UNESCO town of Matera on your doorstep. The latter alone warrants a full day of touring. The hotel runs a shuttle to the beach or you can simply drive. They can also organise tours to vineyards and other parts of Basilicata and Puglia. But at the end of the day it is the memories of the hotel that will stay with me. Yes, it’s not cheap but worth every penny because it will be a long time before I forget the experience.
