La Vieille Ferme is an 18th Century farmhouse in the centre the village of Fresné-la-Mère, just 5km from the historic town of Falaise (the birth place of William the Conqueror) within the Calvados region of Basse Normandy. The property was a working farm until the early 90s and since then has been converted to a 5 bedroom Chambre D’ hôtes,(Bed and Breakfast), situated in 5 acres of land. The days of it being a working farm might be over but a few farm animals still roam.

Outstanding experience. We arrived very tired and asked about dinner options in the town. Our host (a gourmet chef, as we knew) presented us the "bar menu", which in America means junk food (nachos, french fries, etc.). We stayed in, ordering the homemade sausage special

Perfect place for a stopover on way to or from ferry in Cherbourg, but I would love to return an stay a bit longer to explore this interesting area. This accommodation is very special. Sue and Peter have restored this lovely old building with great taste and attention to detail.

We stayed here on the way home from a holiday, it's a couple of hours drive south of Normandy and so was in a good location. Little did we know what a treat it was going to be. We were able to order off the menu for the earlier food, the specials board as well, and it was

A good last stop before the ferry home, a perfect end to our holiday. A beautiful old building tastefully renovated and offering relaxation and comfort. The meals are wonderful and we were made to feel very welcome.

I had to find last minute accommodation for myself and 6 employees and found Peter and Sue on Air B&B. They were very helpful and accommodating considering they were supposed to be having some time off! We arrived later than expected but they still cooked us food from their

Out of the ferry port it is the D223 towards Caen (also sign posted towards A13) and you keep going on this road crossing 2 roundabouts straight ahead until the 2nd option for the peripherique.(ring road) One is east and one is west but it is the second one which show towards Paris and Alencon. This turning is just before another roundabout signposted Caen centre ville. You follow this ring road round the the junction signposted for Falaise. It is called porte d'espagne and it is junction 13. Follow this road N158 all the way to the Falaise junction 11 I think Then drive through Falaise - past the church on your left - past the Carrefour supermarket on your left, past the traffic lights. Then just after a sleeping policeman you need to turn right in order to turn left. Basically you do a little semi-circle and go across the road. It is signposted towards Trun the D63. Follow this road round through Guibray (a district of Falaise) over the roundabout and keep going till you get to our village.

Hi It is possible to get a bus from Caen to Falaise with bus vert route 35. Then you would need a taxi to us which is about 6km away. So yes it is possible but it is complicated. You can hire a car fairly cheaply from L'eclerc in Falaise or from various places in Caen. I would recommend having a car in Normandie unless you are happy to visit just the cities I hope this helps Su
