Nestled in a picturesque setting, the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa offers a cultural entertainment experience that guests enjoy, despite some calling for a refresh in decor. The rooms are spacious and clean, yet reviewers frequently mention they could benefit from modernization. Staying in an overwater bungalow in Tahiti was at the top of our bucket list. After doing research, we discovered that the island of Moorea was the perfect destination for affordable luxury that didn't sacrifice breathtaking views, and it also offered more activities than Bora Bora. We booked through Costco Travel 6 months in advance and got a great deal on panoramic view overwater bungalow. It was truly a picturesque paradise that epitomized the essence of tropical luxury travel. Upon arrival at the Hilton Moorea, we had to wait a long time for our room to be ready, so we seized the opportunity to go snorkeling. Once we checked in, we were delighted to find a bottle of wine waiting for us in our room. Costco perk. Bungalow # 101: We were fortunate enough to stay in a bungalow situated far out on the lagoon, offering an unobstructed premium view of the mountain towards the sunset. The sunset was obstructed by the mountain but it was incredible. The highlight of our stay was snorkeling in the crystal-clear turquoise waters right outside our bungalow. We also went to Sofitel to check out their beach and we preferred the Hilton soft sand and more marine life alongside the bungalows. Service: Concierge was very helpful! They were so sweet and answered all my questions. Front desk was helpful and accommodating. Bell hops and valet were quick and very helpful. Restaurant staff were just OK. Not very nice and nothing to write home about, they got the job done but never went above and beyond and food often took a long time during lunch and dinner rush. Things to do: We also enjoyed booking excursions, renting a car, and exploring the island through Albert Tours. We ended up renting a car and going the safari tour on our own. Skip that one and do it on your own. The Lagoon BBQ tour: it was amazing to swim with sharks and sting rays but be prepared to sit on a beach for a 4 hour BBQ after about 45 mins of snorkeling. I wish there was more time snorkeling and less BBQ. Weather: Although we visited in December and encountered lots of rain and cloudy skies almost everyday, the incredible hotel room more than made up for it. Food: While we had a meal package, we discovered that there were better dining options outside the resort, so we would definitely pass on the package next time. The food was very bland. Breakfast buffet was the best part! Skip lunch and dinner. Check out Rudy’s (offsite) and small restaurant next door instead. The entertainment was good! Hope you don’t feel too much pressure during the luau. I talked to some guests who felt a little awkward about them making guests dance, but we thought it was fun. Spa: Alexis the spa manager was wonderful. She was so professional and made me feel so welcome. The massage was so relaxing and I loved the choice of different oils. Overall, we would definitely return to Moorea and recommend it to anyone seeking a luxury destination that won't break the bank.

Ia Orana ! Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed and thoughtful review of your stay at Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa. We are overjoyed to hear that our overwater bungalows have helped fulfill a dream on your bucket list and that you found Moorea to be the perfect blend of luxury, beauty, and activity. Booking in advance is indeed a smart way to enjoy the best deals, and we are glad that Costco Travel facilitated this for you. Your patience with the check-in process is much appreciated and we're happy you could enjoy some snorkeling while you waited. We are glad to know that the welcome wine added a special touch to your experience. Bungalow #101 is indeed a gem, and we are thrilled that you loved the panoramic views and marine life. We apologize if the service at the restaurant did not meet your expectations at all times. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will address these points to improve our guest experience. The excursions and activities you described sound like an absolute delight, and we're pleased you made the most of what the island has to offer, even if some aspects like the BBQ duration weren't to your preference. Weather can indeed be unpredictable, and we are sorry that it was not ideal during your visit, but it's great to hear that your accommodation compensated for this. Your dining experiences, both on and off the resort, are noted. We will take your comments on the meal package and restaurant offerings into account as we continually strive to enhance our culinary delights. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the entertainment and that the spa services made your stay extra special and relaxing. Thank you once again for your recommendation, and we look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back to our little paradise for another unforgettable stay. Warm island regards, Rose Richmond, Hotel Manager

Hotel's Favorite
This is a review reflects a 5 night stay (end of May thru early June 2023). Allow me to start this review by indicating that this is the SECOND time that we stayed at this property (first being in 1997) and it was our THIRD time visiting Moorea (previous time being in March 2020…yeah I know). After receiving notification from Costco Travel of a special deal that included airfare, all transfers, breakfast AND (3 course) dinner at the Hilton, free minbar use and free wifi. YES, this (and our previous stay here) was in an overwater bungalow. Allow me to separate this review into discrete sections in an attempt to make it easier to read. COSTCO TRAVEL: Excellent service and (overall) easy to work with. While their website provided almost everything you would need with the exception that there was no direct integration with Air Tahiti Nui so I was required to go to the airline’s web site and re-enter all of the necessary travel information. One issue that I had pertained to me repeatedly asking Costco Travel to confirm the details for the return ferry from Moorea to Tahiti and the time of the pick-up from the hotel on the final day of our vacation. Eve though Costco had this request more than a month before we were ticketed, after final documentation was created I noticed that this still was incorrect (seems most travel agencies will put you on a late afternoon ferry as your flight will not leave Tahiti until just before midnight). I once again asked Costco to make the changes and eventually was told by a rather curt agent, “Costco made the request but it’s up to the agent on the other side to fulfill it.” REALLY? COME ON! Costco is responsible for all ticketing and in my opinion, Costco dropped the ball on this. A simple call by one of the hotel concierge staff fixed the issue. Costco could have done the same thing. Shame on you Costco! AIR / LAND TRANSFERS: As with the previous two trips, this visit had a local tour company collect arriving passengers and then drive them to the ferry dock. Excellent service all the way around! (NOTE: Arrangements were made with two different tour companies…one on Tahiti and another on Moorea.) HOTEL STAY (Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort): Where to begin? My wife and I love the Hilton! Truly! It’s smaller than some Moorea resorts and it’s certainly farther away from places like the airport / ferry dock / golf course…that’s fine! I’ll start this portion going through the typical and general parts of our stay. CHECK-IN: Of course we (as do most guests) arrive well before the typical check-in time of 2PM. Rooms (especially overwater bungalows) should NOT be expected to be ready as they almost always are occupied 100% of the time. While I appreciate the fact that the staff working the front desk are trying to help multiple people at the same time, I do not understand why this same staff member made a rather flashy show of ushering my wife and I, along with two other couples, out of the main lobby and through parts of the hotel where we were all told that breakfast was included in our stay. THIS is where a recurring problem theme was first demonstrated… LACK OF & INCONSISTANT INFORMATION! This same staff member MUST have known that my wife and I were booked through Costco Travel on a special package…yet this was overlooked and it wasn’t until later this same day that we knew we needed to ask about the “included dinner” (and other amenities) that our package was to have included. After asking, we were reassured that these were included. This was one of SEVERAL times that we discovered that hotel staff did not take the time to explain everything fully. Other examples of this lack of information / inconsistent information was found in; - The newly (approx. 3 years ago) refreshed rooms have confusing light switches, thermostat controls, shade controls, etc. It would have been nice to not have to discover this on our own. - The fact that our special meal package includes THREE courses for dinner. This would have prevented at least two interactions with serving staff whom we initially thought were being REALLY pushy. - The fact that all three serving venues are available to eat at (instead of only thinking that we “HAD” to eat ONLY at the main dining room). NOTE: I had one of the hotel concierge staff specifically inform me with the exception of a room service delivery fee, we could also order anything off the menu from Room Service. We decided to do this our final full night of our vacation…only to be informed by the delivery staff that this is NOT correct. After dinner (and half a bottle of 100 point wine later) I called the front desk, asked for the on-duty manager and we had a “spirited” conversation about this. The issue was resolved about 10 minutes later by a return call from this same manager informing me that he was reversing the charges (with the exception of the delivery fee). No heartfelt apology was offered or received. - There was no clear explanation of how this property uses the in-room TV for communication. This is especially important because there is NO printed materials in the room (e.g., Room Service Menu, property description, offered services, etc.). Everything can be found on the TV (after navigating a dizzying number of menu options). - Similar to the item above, not all of the three main eating locations are open the same hours every day. NOPE! There’s a variety of open and closed days and hours. Only the bar / restaurant by the pool has their hours of operation clearly posted. (Let’s not also forget that the main dining room also hosts more than one special “show” per week so reservations at almost every location is really necessary. All of this could have been avoided if hotel staff had taken the time to explain things…or if the hotel had thought about all this in advance and had something printed that would be handed out when a new guest is being checked-in. Allow me to share some “Room Wisdom” with you (this is only applicable to the overwater bungalows). On our first visit we stayed in a bungalow that was facing the EAST and overlooking the main lagoon. On this visit we stayed (at my advance request) in a room that faced WEST and had a direct view of Stonefish Bay and the mountains beyond. While BEAUTIFUL, I honestly feel that I made a mistake. Here’s why; 1) The music being played during the “special” dinner shows is LOUD (think Ted Nugent concert) and the sound absolutely carries over the water. 2) People renting / borrowing paddleboards and kayaks will travel directly behind your bungalow both for their outbound and return journey. 3) Tour boats / jet skis that pick-up & drop off people will travel near your back porch as well. SO…facing towards the east anyplace farther away from the hotel would be preferable. HOTEL FOOD & DRINK: Hey, we’re not “foodies” but overall it was good. Drinks typically were watered down some and light on their “pours”. HOTEL POOL SERVICE STAFF: Here’s another area where we were perplexed. About 75% of the time there was nobody in the little shack that hands out towels and rental gear. Nowhere to be found! Some of this same staff also serve as wait staff for the bar. I can’t tell you how many times we found these same people huddled in the bar area talking to each other and not serving customers on the beach or around the pool! HOTEL POOL: Overall, the property pool is nice…not great…nice. It absolutely needs to be drained and resurfaced however as there are multiple “divots” in the surface and it looks like bubbles formed and have been scraped clean. To us, it just looks like there’s not a priority placed on maintenance. HOTEL MAIN AREAS: Overall, the common areas are very well maintained and if you are up and about early you’ll see staff washing off all the furniture, raking the sand and cleaning up the beach area. This is done every day. What’s surprising is the fact that some of the railings are loose in their moorings and it’s obvious that lighting was removed from under the railings, yet the mechanical fasteners were left behind. Hmmmm…. HOTEL STAFF: Overall, everyone we met / interacted with was very friendly and happy to interact with us. Everyone from the breakfast staff to the pool bar to housekeeping. OVERALL IMPRESSION: OK, we’ve now been to Moorea three times and we LOVE it! We’ve spoken to well over a dozen couples that have also been to Bora Bora and other nearby islands. The general consensus is that Moorea is more relaxed and certainly (somewhat) less expensive. It’s certainly remains our choice and we will be back!

We booked this resort last minute when there were no more over water bungalows left and turns out it was great! We had a garden bungalow with a small dipping pool that was luckily very private and extremely nice to have. Rooms are spacious and very clean. The property hosts a couple restaurants and bar. The food was just delicious. The service was mostly very good (there were two times when it seemed like there was a shortage of staff). The concierge was excellent and arranged for a taxi tour of the island. Teina Taxi service turns out to be our exclusive transportation during our stay. Teina was a wonderful guide and lovely person. Unfortunately, while at Hilton, they were renovating the pool which took away some of the ambiance and also reduced size of beach access. We also stayed at the Manava (only one night, left after horrible service in Miti bar). Lastly stayed at Sofitel - differences to Hilton - has longer beach and very large outdoor dining area, only one restaurant while we were there - quality of room, service, food on par with Hilton.

We just returned home from a 6 night stay and left with a huge sense of disappointment.  It fell short of our expectations and I will explain why. On 9/12/23, we received an email from Costco stating they had been informed by the hotel that the pool and kitchen at the Rotui Beach restaurant would be undergoing a renovation.  The resort was offering $50/day as a token of their appreciation of our understanding during the renovation. At that point, we called Costco to decide if we should cancel and rebook elsewhere.  We decided to keep our reservation for these reasons: 1.  We were confirmed to be booked in a Premium end unit. 2.  Per the 9/12 email, the beach would remain open. 3.  Per the 9/12 email, 3 of the 4 restaurants would remain open.  4.  Per the 9/12 email, the resort was providing a complementary boat shuttle to the Motu 4 times per day. All 4 of the above reasons were false. 1. Upon checking in, we find out we are not located at the end of the pontoon in a Premium bungalow but 3 down from end as the end units are now spa units.  This meant we were actually located next to basically an "elevator" where people were coming and going all day so we had no privacy on our balcony and could not open our window blinds as people stood looking into our unit while waiting for their spa appointment.  Also, when sitting on our sofa, we looked out at 6 units and no horizon whatsoever.  When I asked about location at check in, we were curtly told that it is a premium unit.  When we received a call after check in as to our room satisfaction, we stated our disappointment and were told to contact Costco.  Gee thanks for the help! 2.  The beach was being dredged. 3.  The Toatea Creperie location was never open and it is advertised as the only over water restaurant on Moorea. Instead, they rotated the menus of the 4 different restaurants between between the bar and the restaurant. It was quite confusing. However, the food was plentiful and quite good. Hence, I am giving them 4 stars instead of 3. 4. There was only 1 boat shuttle offered per day. In summary, being in an over-water bungalow is a wonderful experience no matter where it is located on the pontoon. I would definitely not pay for an upgraded location. Would we go back? Probably not.

Ia Orana ! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We genuinely value your feedback and are sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. Regarding the renovations, we had informed our partners about the planned updates since September 2023. The decision to conduct these renovations is part of our commitment to maintaining and enhancing our resort's facilities and services. The unit you stayed in is indeed one of our premium bungalows, situated at the end of our pontoon alongside two other premium units. Each is oriented differently to provide unique views. We apologize if the temporary relocation of our spa to the overwater bungalows impacted your privacy. The beach closure which lasted less than a week was a necessary step to conduct re-ensabling work, which unfortunately coincided with your visit. This was an essential measure to preserve the beach's beauty and comfort for our guests. Regarding dining options, Toatea Creperie & Bar is a highlight of our resort, and we regret any inconvenience caused by its closure due to adverse the unpredictable rainy weathers. Safety and comfort are our priorities, and we strive to provide the best possible experience under such circumstances by relocating services to indoor venues. We also noted your feedback on the boat shuttle service. We adjusted to two shuttles per day in response to guests preferences, and we regret any inconvenience this may have caused. We are grateful for your positive remarks about the food and the unique experience of staying in an overwater bungalow. Your insights are invaluable to us and will guide our efforts in enhancing our guest experience. We hope you will consider visiting us again after the renovations are complete, to fully enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa. Warm island regards, Rose Richmond, Hotel Manager

We booked are room through Hilton Honors. Beautiful hotel. We stayed out on one of bungalows over the water. Breakfast room service was an unbelievable experience. The breakfast was delivered in an outrigger canoe. Then set up on the table on our patio overlooking the water. An amazing experience we shall never forget.

Beautiful situation and the only supposed 5 star on the island. We enjoyed our stay here. The pool area is currently being refurbished so we did not experience the whole resort. Over the water rooms are lovely with plenty of space, perhaps in need of a minor refurb as they are beginning to show their age. Good buffet breakfast included for Gold or Diamond, dinner was good but pricey, to be expected when you consider its position. No other restaurants close, but some will organise pick ups if you want variety.

We stayed at this magnificent hotel for 7 days, got here 12/1/23. To get here from USA took a little bit of work when we booked our package hotel & round trip airfare through Travelocity. Since the hotel located on the island of Moorea, we have to find the airport transfer to ferry and back, bought the roundtrip ferry tickets ourselves. There are taxi but most of them are not accepting dollars or credit card in which we try to avoid currency exchange. The hotel did not offer transfer to hotel and back to ferry due to local law that aimed to help local economy. Hotel could only help arranging pickup to hotel and back to ferry handle by another company. The hotel has a total of 109 rooms, 53 rooms are overwater bungalows, and we stayed at one amazing king bed overwater bungalow, amazing! Recommended, you will not be disappointed. I will not go into detail how the room look here but you can search Youtube, quite a few videos covered it. Hotel has 4 restaurants/bars, food and drink are expensive and that is normal when you travel in this French Polynesian region. The food exceptionally good. The views around the premises are beautiful on every angle how you look at it. Water is really clear, not too deep and warm enough you can swim. No big waves and you can see miles away. The staffs are super friendly and helpful. There were time, we felt so quiet and peaceful, we can only guess that we were here on off peak season. 7 days felt such a short time in heaven for us.

We're delighted to hear that your 7-day stay at our hotel was a heavenly experience and that you found our king bed overwater bungalow amazing! We understand that traveling to Moorea can require some extra steps, and we appreciate your efforts in navigating the ferry transfer and local transportation. While we are constrained by local regulations in providing direct transfer services, we're glad to hear that the arrangements made through a third party were satisfactory. Your commendations on our room offerings, especially the overwater bungalows, are greatly appreciated. It's wonderful to know that our YouTube coverage helped you in making an informed choice. We're also pleased that you enjoyed the variety and quality of food and drinks at our four restaurants/bars, despite the higher costs typical of the French Polynesian region. The natural beauty of Moorea and the clear, warm waters surrounding our hotel are indeed special, and we're thrilled that these aspects contributed positively to your stay. Most importantly, knowing that our staff's friendliness and helpfulness made a significant impact on your experience means a lot to us. We understand that leaving such a serene environment can be hard, especially after a peaceful, off-peak visit. It's our hope that the memories you made here will last a lifetime and that we can welcome you back for another slice of paradise in the near future. Warmest regards, Rose Richmond, Hotel Manager

Fantastic in every sense! We stayed in a Premium Panorama bungalow over the water. The room was large, especially appreciated the free mini bar drinks. Food at each restaurant was really good. The staff is what makes is over the top. We took the trip to the Moto-Jacques our guide was the best!

The Hilton Moorea is situation on a beautiful part of the island. There is fantastic snorkeling right off the beach. There were plenty of kayaks and SUP for the guests to enjoy. It is a bit more busy, but not crowded. One downside is that the rooms were slightly dated and could use a facelife. We would definitely go back to visit. Pacific For Less did a fantastic job planning our French Polynesia trip to make it a wonderful stress free vacation.
