We had a fantastic stay at the Hilton Moorea. I read many reviews before going and noticed that they have done a lot to address them. Five stars! -Check-in: We are Hilton Gold Members and were greeted at check-in with pineapple juice, leis, and cold towels. We proceeded to the Hilton Honors desk and they confirmed all of our reservations and applied the Hilton gift cards we received for our wedding to our account. We then were ushered to a golf cart and the porter drove us to our room with our bags. -Room: We had the basic overwater bungalow and stayed on the east side facing the mountains, which I highly recommend. It was away from the Creperie (although the restaurant guests were always very respectful and quiet), had a gorgeous view of the mountains, and was on the quiet side away from the main beach. -Housekeeping: The housekeepers did a full clean in the morning, restocked the (free!) minibar daily, and did a turndown service at night. Excellent! -Service: My husband injured his knee just prior to our stay, and so we relied on the porters/golf carts to get around. The hotel was very accommodating and always sent a porter right away to drive us to breakfast, lunch, dinner and activities (shout out to the amazing Taui!). Everyone on the resort was super friendly and the service was excellent. -Restaurants: Since my husband was injured, we ate almost exclusively at the Hilton and every restaurant was fantastic. We had a wonderful, long lunch with a bottle of wine at the Rotui Grille, right on the beach. We also enjoyed the sunset views and 50% off happy hour at Eimeo Bar each day from 5-6pm. And the continental breakfast (included with Hilton status) was the best continental breakfast I've ever had! Room service was also timely and delicious. My only note overall is to try the local food, it's much better than their american offerings (burgers, pizza). -Overall: we loved the vibe of the resort - everything was high quality but still casual, we didn't feel like we needed to impress/dress up, which we appreciated at such a high-end location. There are also a few very sweet kittens that were roaming the property (always a plus!). Service was five stars. Would absolutely recommend!

Hotel's Favorite
My wife and I had an OWB facing the mountains. The room was spectacular with a view that made you want to sit out on the deck and just chill each day. Beds were comfy, bathroom was large and well designed, and we loved the the glass floor. The snorkeling off our deck was great with plenty of fish to see during the day. Pool - Small but nice with a great view of the mountains. No swim up bar and service could be sparse to find someone to give you a drink but in some way I kind of liked that it was very casual. Beach - small and not as nice as I thought it would be (expectations were very high). Nice chairs and huts to stay out of the sun (honestly we did not speed a lot of time at the beach). Breakfast was as nice as I thought it would be, food was meh and had to find someone to get the omelet bar going. Canoe Breakfast - Holy crap that was awesome. Very expensive but wow. I highly recommend one morning Polynesian Dinner / Dance - The dance part was nice but the dinner sucked. Instead have a drink outside the window and watch. Service - I'd say they were slightly more friendly than a standard hotel. Overall we loved the Hilton. I could be picky about a few things, but the water, view, and bungalow are so nice that I would be fool to give this anything less than a four star review. Looking back - I would book a room that faces the sunset with mountain view. The sunsets are amazing over the water.

This hotel isn’t great: - The lobby is full of luggage of early guests waiting to check-in. There is no guarantee that anyone is watching your suitcases - The overwater bungalows are very worn down and don’t feel clean. The polish is wearing off handles, screens are ripping, the wall covering is falling off - The food at the restaurants serving lunch and dinner is inconsistent and often below average (overcooked/dry fish, curry sauce one day was great but awful the next). - The pool has seen better days: the blue coating is coming off and there are patches of no coating in several places - There is limited SUP/kayaks/snorkel gear, so be prepared to wait - The water around the overwater bungalows is fairly limited and guests will come pretty close to your bungalow while you’re enjoying peace and quiet - Not all the windows are true glass windows; some are just shutters. Noise enters the bungalow pretty easily (woke up often around 5:30 due to noise) and perhaps allows lizards/other creatures to enter. - There are no outlets!!! Well there are 2 under the desk but very hard to reach and difficult to share across our 7 devices. The staff has been very friendly though! And the view from our bungalow (#91) is decent even though it partially looks back at the beach/restaurants. It’s west facing so you do get sunset views. I recommend eating off property: Rudy’s and Holy’s Steakhouse definitely come pick you up. You will share the transport and should be prepared to wait or hurry up during your dinner in case the other group(s) finish their meals at different times. This didn’t happen to us but we heard about it on the resort. Tiki Ata is walking distance too and great for lunch or dinner. The water and snorkeling is fun. You will see sharks and rays too! Overall I do not recommend the hotel at all.

Overall, we found our honeymoon stay at Hilton Moorea disappointing. We had arranged a detailed honeymoon trip starting with 3 nights at Hilton Moorea and following with 5 nights at St. Regis Bora Bora. US citizens, we had commenced our trip in Fiji and after a stay there moving on to French Polynesia with a very brief 1 night stay in Auckland and then connecting to Tahiti. Regrettably, Air Tahiti Nui cancelled our Auckland to Tahiti flight on Sunday 11 September (Saturday 10 September in French Polynesia) due to one its aircraft being struck by lightning, we believe, and rescheduled for approximately 36 hours later. (PLEASE see our separate review of Air Tahiti Nui and by all means avoid flying them at all cost!) I immediately called our two FP hotels directly. In the case of the St. Regis, we spoke directly with on-site reservations who graciously assured us that they would make any and all adjustments for us -- at no additional cost to us -- so that our 5 nights there could be shifted by 1 day to address our lengthy arrival delay. They even inquired as to how they might help with the rescheduling of our Bora Bora arriving flight!, or if we needed any assitance with any Auckland property to help with our unwelcomed delay! But in the case of Hilton Moorea, we were advised that the property did not have any on-site personnel that could assist us during weekends, and that we should just call back later. "Later" in our case meant Monday when we would also presumably have already arrived in Moorea. While we preserved a bit with connecting with a manager there, he stated that a further exploration of addressing our issue would require corporate contact, and that they, too, would not be available on weekends. When we did finally arrive, we were advised that Hilton had decided to afford us absolutely zero assistance; that we would lose our first night; and that our only remedy would be to pay for a new third night at a cost of $900. I am both a Gold member of Marriott (St. Regis) and Hilton and one could not be more struck at the woeful lack of service of Hilton vs. Marriott. We did reserve a new 3rd night at Hilton Moorea at our cost, but did so through Orbitz at a cost of $600, only 2/3rds the cost of the offered Hilton price. This lack of service and additional cost was a huge disappontment. The Hilton Moorea itself has all the makings of being able to be a top class resort. We had reserved their highest category of largest land based villla/suite, and found that accomodations for our two remaining nights they would provide were quite nice. On site managers did endeavor to work hard to further assist us once we arrived, but were seemingly hamstrung by their corporate offices, and we thank them for their attempts. Post COVID travel....with internationally dotted major flight cancellations etc., pose new and unwelcomed challenges to world travellers. Clearly Mariott understands this while Hilton clearly does not. In essence, by comparison there is no comparison. While international travel at this time presents new challenges, travellers would be well advised to focus on accomidation offerings that can provide appropriate assistance. The Hilton product just completely punted and fell flat, made all the more egregious by the stellar response of their competitor in comparison.

This hotel is not a 5-star-luxury-wipe-your-mouth-for-you-after-eating place to go like a Ritz or Four Seasons. It's better because you can be yourself and expect to be around other people like you. If you need gold plated toilet seats, go somewhere else. The Hilton Moorea will treat you like an honored guest and they are excited to help you. Really, this is not just some review I got paid to write. The staff are all trained to be accommodating. All of them. Every single employee seems like they will stop what they are doing to assist you and they will. Ia Orana was said everytime you passed someone with a smile and they mean it. If you want to indulge, get the couples massage. OMG the body scrub was insane and these women knew how to massage, not just kids working their way through college but get the knots out enjoyable massage. Some people in some reviews were put off by the cats. Really?? I do not care for cats all that much but they were just cute little kittys that didn't bother you unless you wanted them to come over to you. Food was wonderful, grounds were spotless, and rooms were what this place is known for. ENJOY

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary 8/21 to 8/24 with our 2 girls. The Hilton Moorea is a beautiful resort. We stayed in one of the 3 Lagoon bungalows that were just off to the right of the overwater ones. We chose this one as our youngest was not the strongest swimmer so we wanted something close to the water but wasn’t to deep. This bungalow was a great compromise. Although the experience here overall was great there were a few items that were a little less than perfect. Our room was a little beat up. The drawstring on the bathroom privacy shader was snapped in half and tied together in a little knot. The sink drain plug wasn’t attached and the privacy shade had exposed glue all around the bottom. These were all aesthetic issues that had zero bearing on the functions of these items. The Tv was an issue as well. It would keep rebooting throughout the day. This isn’t a big deal as we were weren’t watching TV a lot while we were there but it did make it difficult at times to order room service as all of the menus and prices are listed on the home page on the TV. Also, the hotel offers little activities by the pool during the week. My girls were looking forward to the lei necklace making activity and we waited about 45 minutes by the area and then informed later that it was canceled. Kinda of a bummer That being said everything else was pretty amazing. The beaches are great. The snorkeling is great. There is a little mini beach to the left of the Rotui grill that was a little less crowded and perfect for my girls to run around and make sand castles. Probably the the thing that stands out the most to me with this resort is the service. It is outstanding. Everyone that works here is so kind and helpful. Walking around and seeing the smiles from the staff and being greeted“ la orana “ is a great feeling. The staff at the Rotui Grill and Breakfast buffet are particular standouts. I mean everyone we really interacted with was awesome. The lady in the gift shop was very patient and extremely nice as my 4 year old was asking the price on every pearl in the display case. Lol. One of the front desk ladies went and picked a tiare for my daughter when she mentioned how pretty they looked. It’s just the little kind gestures here that go along way. The beauty of this resort extends far past the views and is present in all its staff. We had a great time here and would definitely stay again if given the opportunity. Oh, also. I would like to give a compliment to the gentleman that assisted with our reservation. Vincent Salamon. We had some issues with Hilton Corporate at first and he was able to resolve and confirm everything quickly and with no issues. Thanks again Vincent.

Let me just start by saying that you are not paying a high price to stay here, for brand new curtains and countertops. You are paying for the location and the experience- which is the best on the island. This trip was for my 40th bday and our 16th wedding anniversary- and I'm so glad we picked Hilton Moorea for these big events! Team: The crew at this resort are top-notch. Amazing, friendly, accommodating, helpful. We are terrible at remembering everyone's names but every teammate was really a star. Our reception at check-in was so warm and we were provided with a comprehensive overview of all the things we needed to know. The team member in the on-site store went out of their way to track us down when we hadn't taken the complimentary souvenir glasses that went with the bottle of champagne we bought. Our server at my birthday dinner, single-handedly rescued a vintage bottle of Dom P that we had brought for the occasion with their almost surgical treatment of the stuck cork- so very thankful! The hosts/hostesses, the servers, the cleaning team, the mini bar team, the room service team, the concierge, the tour desk, the turndown team, the person who answers the phone when you call from your room...everyone was just absolutely stellar at their work. The room- we were in over the water bungalow 109 at the end of the pontoon. I think it was the best on the resort. The view was straight out over the water to the west with unobstructed views in front and to the right. It was special b/c you could catch but sunrise and sunset from the balcony. While the furniture was a little worn here and there, the room was spotless and had beautiful touches. We really enjoyed having both an upper and lower deck, and being able to snorkel right from our room. The air conditioning was blowing nice and cold and the bed was super comfy. Restaurants/Catering: We ate at each of the restaurants and enjoyed all the meals we ate on resort. The service could be a bit slow at times when the restaurants were busy but nothing to be too put off by. We ordered a continental breakfast to our room, on our last day and I was blown away by the set-up. See pic 😉 The only bummer was that we wanted to do the in-room catered dinner for our wedding anniversary but it wasn't yet available. We also couldn't do the dinner on the beach that evening b/c there was a luau, so instead we did the "Sundowner" which was set on the beach, with beautiful canapes and champagne. It was lovely. Add the breakfast buffet to your booking- it was really top notch and the service was excellent. Pool Area: We only used the pool on the first day, as we preferred to swim in the lagoon the rest of the time. The pool area is nice, and we did notice that it is indeed serviced for food and beverage (some reviews have said there is no service but we observed it to be consistent and pretty quick). Lagoon: Beautiful, clear, calm, and with lots of fish. We had great snorkeling off of our deck and spent hours floating around in the warm water. We brought our own snorkel gear, but you can rent it (in addition to kayaks, SUPs, etc) for free. Extra touches: Because there are so many people checking in very early, coming off of trans-pacific flights, they have a small breakfast buffet that you can access on your day of check-in for free. At check-in you get a beautiful lei, a really cold towel, and juice. The mini-bar is refreshed every day- we were never in want of water. The store on-site has anything you might need during your stay (from sundries to souvenirs to champagne). The turndown service is a nice touch, and they leave more water for you in the room at that time. We booked a land tour through the tour desk and we ended up being the only folks on it- one of the concierge/tour desk guys hopped on the tour to check it out which I thought was really great. You can trust that the folks selling your tours know all about them. There are giant rain umbrellas in the room. Robes are provided as well. Things to note: There is no ATM at the hotel and only a couple in and around the island. You won't need cash on the resort BUT bring some for when you go off resort. We ordered CFP from our bank before we left and brought it with us- and I'm so glad we did. When it rained...a large bug whose species I won't mention here, wandered in under our door to stay dry. We happened upon him when we turned the light on and it was pretty hairy for a moment there. This happened twice actually...which is not surprising b/c you are in the tropics. If it's going to rain, put a rolled-up towel in the crack under the door before you close it. That worked seamlessly once we thought of it. This is difficult if you are leaving the room though. I think it would be crucial for the hotel to put door sweeps under the doors so there are no cracks- which would solve this issue entirely. This was really our only issue- I understand given the location...just glad I had a few cocktails before seeing the bug(s) 😂 There are also plantation shutters with no screens- and they don't all shut very tight. We had no other bug issues, but can imagine this could cause a problem. There are luaus 3 nights per week- when there are shows, the other restaurants are closed and there is only a buffet. You can book a restaurant off-site through the concierge- we went to Rudy's and Holy Steakhouse- both great and both provided transport. Last thing- and I'm going to be straightforward...if you are going to whine and moan about how much the room costs, how much everything costs on the resort, and how much everything costs on the island- this trip is not for you. It'll just stress you out. You won't enjoy yourself. We witnessed it. If you can put those thoughts aside, you are going to LOVE this place and should book your trip without delay. We'll be back for sure!

I very much wanted to like this hotel. But as hard as I tried, it felt like I was at times banging my head against a wall. The property looks great, and is well located, and the rooms are spacious and well decorated. The hotel staff is also nice. However, as soon as one enters the Hilton, one cannot help but feel that it is very dated and due for a refresh. From the look of the pool (where the paint is in parts coming off), to the plastic sunloungers I had not seen since the 90s, the overall look and feel of the hotel is: old. The people, although nice, seem to suffers from a cruel case of understaffing. Everything takes ages, especially getting your food (90+ minutes some nights). And let’s talk about the food: a creperie which serves savoury crepes in sweet crepes dough (I would know, I come from the country of crepes), a buffet which will charge you $150 per person for school canteen food, and a grill where wait times for the food routinely exceed 1hr+. Last, at check-in after a 25 hours flight, we were informed that the room wasn’t ready and were invited to change in the ‘changing rooms’ - in fact the reception’s toilet stall!! It definetely did not feel like a $500+ hotel when my wife and I had to open our suitcase and get changed in a toilet stall while carefully avoiding to touch the toilet bowl. My advice: avoid and go to the Sofitel, at least until Hilton sorts their mess out.

If you are an American traveling internationally for the first time, you will love Hilton Moorea. Unlike most resorts in French Polynesia, this resort has a largely American clientele. As in other Hilton resorts, the property is very well maintained, has all the amenities (lagoon, pool, spa, excursions) but the Polynesian culture is stripped out. The overwater bungalows are lovely and spacious though not private. Expect other guests swimming and paddleboarding right next to your deck. The lagoon has super clear, calm water and offers easy snorkelling. To their credit, the hotel is creating a coral head under each bungalow viewing window by transplanting coral. You will see sharks and sting rays swim under at night. The housekeeping service was excellent, well beyond the current US standard. They cleaned the bungalow every day and refilled the minibar with complementary beverages. The staff was always happy to help with any request. Our biggest issue was the food. It was consistently poor. It all tasted like it was prepared in large quantity for a buffet, even at Arii Vahine, the upscale dinner restaurant. Totea Creperie was a novel concept but again, the seafood tasted like to was bought in bulk and frozen. Rotui Grill was the best on property, but its a better choice to go out to one of the restaurants that will send a van to pick you up. I give the spa a mixed review. It is a nice facility and very clean. The first massage therapist was wonderful. The second therapist had very different technique though I repeated their signature Moorea Lagoon massage. The second time we were put in a room with an outside wall and we could hear people talking outside, not conducive to relaxation. Overall, a beautiful location with great service but not an authentic Polynesian experience. For that you should go out to the atolls - Rangiroa and Fakarava are superb.

Our first trip to Tahiti we spent the majority of our vacation at this hotel. That was 11 years ago. It is not the same. Let's start with the positives. The lagoon is still beautiful. The y deserve a lot of credit for keeping the water so clean and the coral looking beautiful. It did seem like the amount of tropical fish had decreased, but that may have been due to time of year. Most everything else was not the same. They removed most of the drawers to store your clothes. The breakfast buffet they used to have was out of this world. You didn't need lunch. Now it is barely adequate except on Sunday where it still doesn't match what they used to have. Overall the food is inconsistent,. The fish is good, the meat, forget it. I tried the ribs and the skirt steak. I would give them a 1 or 2 stars. The internet in the room was horrible. It kept cutting off. It was better, but still extremely slow, outside. The only television station in English was CNN, Each movie channel had two stations, one for English and one for French. Apparently they have cancelled their contract, because all of them are now in French. We spoke to the front desk and maintenance to make sure it was not us. They confirmed everything we have said. The three times a week shows are cheesy and cost $98 per person. On a happy note, our excursions were wonderful. I highly recommend the food tasting tour and the whale watching/swimming. We also took a private 4WD circle island tour. Our guide was wonderful. As for food, we found a great place to eat, walking distance from the hotel. It is called Tiki Ata and they even have tables in the water. You can read my full separate review of the restaurant.
