As other travelers have mentioned, I only can confirm this place isn’t really worth the money.
We first booked two rooms directly with the hotel but have been told there are no rooms left. Yet on Agoda and Booking still were, so we booked them from there. Once arrived we were not really sure we would get the rooms, given their confusing emails, and the lady at the reception was really rude and impolite, ignoring our questions and just laughing and asking for the money.
The two rooms (80$ each) were with no breakfast, at the very end of the village, last row, parallel to the highway Esparagos-Santa Maria.
Tea bags available but no kettle. All very clean but shower broken, towels worn out, mini fridge terribly noisy and no way to plug it out.
Terrace dirty and yeah, I understand u have 500 rooms to clean but hey, we are paying 😄
Swimming pool near this “restaurant” with really unpleasant staff; they asked us to order at the bar, the bar told us to order at the restaurant, they argued, in the and almost obligated us to pay 15€ and find something heated up in the -almost gone- buffet. Anything we pointed on the menu was “finish” or “tomorrow “ , accompanied by a laugh. As my mum suffers from diabetes and HAD to eat something, they agreed for a panini but 15 min later brought a salad…
The FOUR,4!, wooden long chairs on the beach are a joke:) Still, if u enjoy wild beaches and do not need un umbrella, head left or right along the cost and you will find a better place.
Also: they charge 15€ for a taxi to anywhere, but just exit the village, wait a bit on the main road and vans will stop and safely bring u for 1€ anywhere.

The hotel is located just by the ocean, but you can’t really swim there because of the rocks and very strong waves.
The room was okay-ish, but there was black mould in the bathroom, which was disgusting.
I had problems with the staff – they seemed completely uninterested in the guests’ needs, not to mention the fact that they can’t speak English which is a huge obstacle at times. I once phoned the reception and the receptionist hang up when I was still talking, which was a new experience for me :)
There is a swimming pool with cold salty water (also, a new experience for me :) Very few beach chairs by the swimming pool meant that people fought for them at 7 a.m. That’s probably not something you wanna do on holiday, is it?
In general, I’d say: keep looking for another hotel.

Before you read this review, please understand that overall we had a lovely holiday. Lots of sun, hotel room was fine, and the local town had plenty bars and restaurants to keep us happy...

However..

There is no other way to describe the hotel and Sal island, Cape Verde itself other than just BIZARRE.

Hotel: The hotel/resort itself on the surface was lovely. It was a big complex with individual chalets and houses, some of which are owned by local people I believe. It has cobbled 'streets' and vegetation, and was rather pretty. The room was a bed-sit, with the bed, sofa and kitchen all in the same room. There was a mini-balcony and a good sized bathroom. This is Africa remember, so there were plenty of stray cats, dogs, ants and other beasties to keep us company. Overall the hotel room was clean and sufficient, although it defiantly was NOT fit for self catering as the kitchen was basically a fridge, tiny sink, and small plug-in hob... The room was towards the rear of the resort on the top floor, and we had a small balcony and sitting area. There is also a small shop on the resort with lots of items to buy including snacks, alcohol, food ingredients, meat, cheese, bread etc.

Staff/housekeeping:

The housekeeping for the rooms was excellent. They changed the bed daily and cleaned the apartment fully. The reception staff were pretty awful. No English spoken, slow service and somewhat rude at times. Same goes for the shop staff - I felt like I shouldn't be there sometimes with the looks I was given. The bar staff were a little better but there was a huge language barrier, strange since most of the guests were English.

Pool/beach/bar:

The pool is lovely - very big and warm , although it is salt-water. However there are ample sun-loungers (including on the small beach directly next to the pool) and a fresh-water shower. The pool - side surface was VERY VERY slippy and I fell over quite badly. I also saw a few other people fall, it is downright DANGEROUS and the hotel need to do something about this. Definitely take flip-flops to wear by the pool-side. The bar is located next to the pool and the restaurant is behind the bar area.

Food/drinks:

The food is absolutely awful and very overpriced. There is no other way to describe it. Expensive, very poor quality and just plain terrible. DO NOT go to this resort thinking you can eat there every night. and DO NOT order the wine, Downright disgusting and very very very overpriced. Service is also very poor and takes up to 2 hours for the food to arrive. Drinks on the whole were the higher end of reasonable, and the local beer is pretty cheap , though definitely not to our well-travelled taste. We had to go to the town 5/7 nights to eat which ended up being very expensive. We also came across a lady who had booked all-inclusive though Thomas Cook and paid a huge amount of money, only to be told that the hotel was no longer an all inclusive resort. I hope she got a serious refund. Breakfast was included for all but it was pretty bad. Watered down juice, strange greasy bacon, eggs, interesting yoghurt and TERRIBLE coffee. Often the items would run out and the staff wouldn't bother to replace it until you asked them twice.

Town/travel: The town is a 15 minute taxi/shuttle run away. The shuttle is good but only comes 2 times a day so we got taxis back and forward costing a reasonable $6 one way. The town is basically a long strip of tourist shops, with some lovely restaurants and bars along the beach. We had some really delicious food and drink but definitely paid for the privilege. There is also a pier which is an active fishing pier.
Having been to mainland Africa, the 'sales-men' were not as pushy as they could be, but they are still quite a handful. You do tend to get hassled constantly when walking around, even when sat in restaurants , asking if you want to buy hats, glasses, knock-off goods . The people in general are very nice however, but the service is something to be desired. Always very slow, and a lack of them speaking English causes a few problems. Definitely brush up on your Portuguese before you go!

The Island:

The island itself is a rock. There is nothing there at all. If you want to go to Cape Verde, definitely book another island. We described it as like being on Mars. Desolate, dusty and no vegetation. No super-markets. One road from the hotel to the tiny 'town' and that's it.

Excursions:

We were very excited to book a day out on a yacht for our last day. It looked lovely, with food and drink included and a full 8 hour sail. We packed up and headed to reception only to find that a mistake has been made by reception and they had 'forgotten' to book us on it. Disappointed, we headed into town to find lunch and see if we could make a last-ditch attempt to go on a boat. We ended up booking a half-day experience privately which was expensive and a bit of a let down. We sailed up and down the coast, had quite literally a hand-full of nuts and some tuna on bread for snack, then headed back in. It was pretty uncomfortable and by that time I was ready to go home.

Overall, like I said to begin with, we were happy. It was HOT HOT HOT for November and we had a lovely tan after a week.

I would definitely not recommend the hotel or the island. Especially if you have children as there is nothing to do at all. Go to Cape Verde, if you must to go Sal then stay in Santa Maria, otherwise pick another island.

This hotel was very disappointing. I would not class it as even one star.

To start with the food. We paid for half board.

Breakfast consists of scrambled egg, tinned mushrooms and there was bacon only on one day. The only cereal was coco pops.

Dinner was made as cheap as possible. Also very limited and served with chips and rice every day.

The hotel rooms were very outdated and the bath and shower were appalling.

The hotel pool actually didn't belong to the hotel, it was the village pool which is used by all the village residents. The toilets didn't have any water in them to flash the chain or wash your hands for 3 days.

The hotel is also a small terrace down one of the roads in the village.

The spa advertised was just a small shack which was never open.

This hotel was such a disappointment and nothing like what was advertised. We expected a half decent place to stay and some nice food. On new years eve they did a buffet which was the only nice meal we had all holiday.

The only positive thing I can say about our stay was that the staff were very friendly and tired their very best to make do with the limited resources to their disposal.

Sal was chilled and we liked the island itself.

Me and my partner recently spent a week here in December. The staff were really friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived, helping us book excursions, taxis and transfer. We had a lovely apartment room which was cleaned daily. We were bed and breakfast, and enjoyed a buffet breakfast each day which had a large variety of choice. We also chose to have dinner at the restaurant a few nights, the fish of the day had to be one of our favourites but there were lots of choices, pizza and burgers were amazing too! Both enjoyed the pool area and think the location of the hotel is perfect, the free bud to Santa Maria is a nice touch. But it’s nice to come back to the more secluded Murdeira and relax away from the crowds.

Would definitely recommend!

Just 10 minutes from the airport, and 10 minutes from Santa Maria, this peaceful resort is ideally suited for a sunshine break. Twice daily, free trips in the Resort's bus to Santa Maria and back keeps you in easy touch with the busier and expanding main tourist hub of the Island of Sal. And only a 6-hour flight (from Bristol).
The on site swimming pool helps you cool down after a session on the sun loungers. And there's a beautiful bay here too, suitable for snorkelling when the conditions are right. There are few easily accessible places for snorkelling on the Island of Sal, and this is recommended.
Beautiful views of the Murdeira Bay that stretches either side of the Resort.
A comfortable and spacious apartment ticked all of the boxes for us.
A good variety of evening menus and if you are into fish dishes, you will be well pleased. The waiters provide an efficient and courteous service throughout the day's meals.
We love the place so much that we have already been there 4 times. And a 5th visit is very much on the cards.
If you want a break from the North European Winter Blues, you would be wise to consider this Resort.
And with Cape Verde on the same sort of latitude as Trinidad and Tobago, the air travel time is much less tiresome.

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. It's no way a 4 star. I've been in a 3 star which had much better service and quality. The staff are very nice but the hotel is crap sorry to say. The breakfast was cold every morning, nothing in the hotel worked, they have no iron to iron your clothes, air conditioning didn't work, phone in room didn't work, fridge and kettle we're broken, ants we're in the beds. They have no entertainment, the drinks and food wasn't good and to make things worse they have the cheek to want to charge people room tax. Stay away from this hotel if your looking for the basics. The electric even cut out one night when I had to wake up to use the bathroom.

We were a group of 15 friends celebrating Christmas eve together and every one of us had a beautiful lunch. It's difficult to make so people happy at one time and they totally pulled it off!! The service was amazing, the food was excellent and the price is really fair. The manager was extremely attentive to the group ensuring all ran smoothly. We were all delighted and will definitely return. Great job...keep up the good work 😃

all inclusive at half board level. On the hotel beach 4 (four words)! wooden deckchairs and 6 umbrellas... Difficult entry into the ocean over rocks - water shoes required. Overall a boring place - nothing to do here. Older equipment of the apartment. The staff seem to pretend they are there for punishment.

After being stranded by yet another broken Thomson airplane for 24 hours we were put up in this hotel by the airline, or rather by one of their bus drivers who arranged everything and Thomson (hopefully) picked up the cheque. Despite minimal notice and the fact that the hotel was seemingly not open we were provided clean spacious rooms, the pool was cleaned and made ready for use, we were amply fed and watered and we were able to make the best of our "extra morning of holiday". The vista from this hotel is spectacular with waves breaking to the west and a large but rocky beach sheltered by a natural volcanic stone harbour. Lovely pool, scenery, rooms and location, this hotel did us proud and I wish them all the best.

Ilha do Sal, Cape Verde
Dear simonstown, Thank you for your contact, we would be very happy to welcome you on your next holidays in Sal. We have a sand beach on the side of the resort that has a sandy area where its good to swim at. The main bay has a beach that is located on Murdeira's Nature Marine Reserve which is a protected area due to the richness of its ecosystems and the small coral reefs that makes it a rocky area like a natural swimming-pool. It is a very good area to snorkel and dive. We recommend to wear water shoes when swimming on the main bay. If you have any doubts or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards, Murdeira Village Resort Team
