The hotel does everything you would expect for a stay but it is dated . The Hotel lacks any wow factor. Rooms are ok but in need of tlc. Breakfast was ok but not wow. It’s an old fashioned sea front Hotel that is in need of modernization. Staff are friendly and you have no real complaints..... just that every area could be better with a little piece of attention.

Excellent location and good breakfast, however a very bleak reception area and disinterested attitude amongst some staff. Reasonable value for money yet a little 'tired' looking. Mobility scooters for hire at the hotel entrance, which is a thoughtful touch.

We had a 5 day break with Shearings to this hotel. The accommodation was good, the food plentiful and the staff helpful. The situation of the hotel was ideal, opposite the beach and a short walk to the town.

Took my 96 yr old grandfather, 14 yr old daughter and myself for a night away. We needed a joined room so we could keep an eye on him! The only rooms we could have were on the top floor there was a lift but it was very small and Very scary grandads room was ok small but it was a single .the bathroom was clean but the shower was shocking photos will follow. The double room was lovely and the bathroom looked like it has just been refurbished very clean. The temperature in both rooms felt like we where atop of mount Vesuvius!! We opened the windows and went out for the day!! When we came back to the room we had a visitor....a pigeon!! He left very quickly! We went down for our meal, I ate from the normal menu 2 courses for I think it was about sixteen pounds was beautiful my daughter and grandfather ate from the a la carte menu my daughter said it was ok macaroni and cheese with one small slice of garlic bread very small portion. My grandad had the duck it was totally unedible three knifes one a steak knife could not cut it!! It was returned with a different option picked was told there would be a 15 min wait for new food after about 25 we asked how long it was going to be to be told another ten mins or so. grandad not happy and cancelled the meal and puddings we went to reception to pay our bill the receptionist was lovely gave us discount then fussed that grandad would go hungry offering to make him a sandwich!! Instead she sent up the puddings for grandad and my daughter to the room free of charge. The room temperature had not reduced in anyway and the pigeon was back!! Fans where provided for us which helped!! The TV's were odd single room we could only get channels 3 and 4 double room only 1 and 2!! The pigeon returned to both rooms through the night although couldn't tell if it was the same one!! Lol x couldn't shut the windows as it was so hot!! Breakfast was beautiful x steps to get in to hotel, outside lift broken Staff are amazing!!

Hello Sally B, Sorry to hear you had bad experience with the al la carte menu, heat and the local wildlife. Your comments have been passed on to the kitchen and I am happy to hear the lady on reception did her up most to rectify the problem, making sure that your Granddad was well fed and that you enjoyed breakfast. The other issues that you mentioned have been noted and actions have put in place for these to be rectified. Regards Wayne & The Team

What an amazing building the Grand is, I would say it is the most impressive building along the sea front. However when you walk in it’s a bit of a disappointment, we arrived early so waited in the bar for an hour plus for our room and the carpet was full of bits which needed hoovering and it stayed that way the whole week we were there! The furniture in the lounge was basic and the decoration tired. Our room was like the bar basic but we had a sea view from the side so could see a little of the beach. We had a nice shower and tea and coffee making facilities and 2 biscuits which had to last until Thursday when they were eventually restocked. There was lots of dirt, hairs and dust about and we couldn’t see out of the window it was so dirty, then the windows got cleaned with a very long pole! The bed was comfortable and clean and the towels refreshed often. The food I really enjoyed, I tended to eat vegetarian and they had some good choices. A bit slow at times but all staff were lovely and I fear worked so hard for little. My mum and Dad were in a twin room with no view so they were given a walk in wardrobe, ironing board and iron and coffee machine with pods as well as kettle and tea etc, bars of chocolate, biscuits, better toiletries including sewing kit and shoe cleaning kit, so all that extra and a huge room because they couldn’t see the sea, but we got the naff room because we could just see the sea with none of the trimmings, weird!! The breakfasts were good too but you had to pay a little more for kippers! You could get as much fry up as you wanted, the coffee was delicious and they did cereals and toasts too. The holiday with Shearing’s was cheap we got what we paid for, we had a fantastic holiday, great weather, great company so I didn’t expect much more.

Hello 686suec, thank you for your review about the Grand Atlantic hotel and I’m am glad the food was of good standard for you. The difference in room types may have been down to upgrade for them which is the standard for that type was all the extras as you stated. With regards to your room not being restocked I have alerted the housekeeping staff to this. I will also pass on to the staff that they were helpful. Regards Wayne & The Team
