My wife and I have just returned home after a most enjoyable stay at the Anchor Head Hotel (14 - 20th. July) as part of a 7-day Alfa Coach Tour. We found our room to be comfortable and the hotel's ambiance welcoming. The waiters and waitresses in the restaurant were very efficient and the food was of an acceptable standard. Fine dining it is not, but this was not expected in a 2/3-Star hotel. The only problem with our visit was the fact that the lift was not working when we arrived, and still not working by the time we departed. Apparently the replacement parts were being sent from Italy, but I still failed to comprehend why it should take so long. Have these people not heard of DHL, UPS, FedEx etc? Initially we were allocated a room on the third floor, but this had to be changed to one on the first floor as there was no way my wife, who suffers from severe arthritis, could have managed to climb to that level. Even descending/ascending the stairs to access the restaurant was purgatory for her. That said, many of the other elderly guests, whose rooms were on the second and third floors, but could not be changed, also found their daily climb torturous. Quite what would have happened if our room could not have been changed I dread to think. No, we did not receive a letter from Alfa, prior to our departure, informing us that the lift was not operating. However, the excursions to Bristol, Bath, Wells and Cheddar were all interesting. Burton-on-Sea is worth visiting. Catch the No. 1 bus to the town centre, then board the No.20 bus which travels through delightful countryside. The journey takes about an hour. If you appreciate peace and solitude then Sand Bay in the opposite direction is also easily reached on the No.1 bus. Enjoy....

On a 5day break we had been informed before travelling that the lift was out of order. We thought this wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience ! We arrived Saturday tea time, the cases taken to our room and we started the ascent to the second floor, two flights of narrow steep stairs , twenty three steps each staircase. Our coach holiday consisted of mainly senior citizens, quite a few disabled. This was quite nerve racking seeing these people scaling what must have appeared to them like a climb up a mountain. This is the second day here and the lift still isn't working, apparently it could be repaired by Thursday and by then we will have returned home. If there were to be an emergency evacuation these disabled people would never get out in a hurry. Otherwise the food and service is good

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone .My partner and myself went on a 5 day Alfa coach holiday. The lift broke down on the 3rd day we was there and didn't get fixed during our stay and we was on the 3rd floor 4 counting the stairs to the restaurant. We had 1 waiter in our side serving 31 people rushed of his feet. The was a shortage of staff and what there was weren't polite didn't know the words good morning /evening and no thank you used at the bar only there when getting served. Out of 4 nights only entertainment on 2 and quizzes on 2 including the Sat. evening even they we're so difficult not enjoyable so very few played. Weston Super Mare a lovely seaside town so I would advise you to go to another hotel if you went there

Beautiful views and extremely comfy bed! Bathroom and rest of hotel needs updating and refreshing and the lift is a bit left to be desired. Breakfast was regimental and staff seemed on edge and not overly friendly. Reception staff was quite abrupt and not very helpful at all. Shame really because the location is beautiful.

Spent three nights here on self drive B&B package, no parking at Hotel, but found a space on street. Check in was quick, receptionist was very pleasant. Room on 2nd floor, used lift which is very small, 2 adults and 2 suitcases just fitted. Room small but adequate for our needs, very clean, with sea view. En suite shower, very powerful, plenty of hot water, and nice soft towels. Breakfast each am was very nice with plenty of choice, but did not like the watered down orange juice, tasted like ordinary squash. Dinning room is on lower ground floor, with a door that leads out to pleasant Terrace There are steps down that leads to a promenade walk. Can highly recommend the Claremont Vaults pub, that is just a few steps from the Hotel. We had a very pleasant stay, and would happily book again. Thankyou.
