Detailed Reviews
My daughter and I stayed for 4 nights. There was no need to wear a mask in the public areas. We were just asked to keep our distance from other guests.
Instead of having a buffet breakfast which is the usual option we were asked to preorder the evening before. We selected our choices from the cooked English selection. We also selected orange juice and toast with butter and jam.
The tables and chairs in the restaurant are sanitised after they have been vacated. We did notice that whilst the backs and seats of the chairs were sanitised the tops and sides weren't. These areas are what people would touch in order to pull out or pull in the chair.
I did feel that it worked out cheaper for the owner to do the breakfast like this as you get one egg, one rasher of bacon and one sausage. My main disappointment was that we only got 2 butter portions for 2 rounds of toast per person. I suggest management butter a slice of toast themselves to see how totally inadequate one portion is on a slice.
Our room was nicely decorated and clean. It was also quite a warm room with just 2 small windows. It was very useful that there was a fan in the room which we used daily.
The room isn't serviced unless you request it but we only had to ask for more toilet rolls etc and they were replaced. For us, not having the maid clean the room wasn't a concern. It would have been nice to have had a small fridge in the room.

Having stayed at the hotel for 5 nights, we were pleased to see our room Was ready on arrival at 2pm. (After a 5.5 hour journey). We booked a superior room and I can say that it was worth the money bar a few exceptions. Everything was spotless, however the room has obviously recently been re-decorated, and the previous headboard must have been fixed to the wall. When we woke up the next morning, our headboard had slipped down and it revealed white painted walls and screw holes. The rooms are painted beige, so it was very noticeable. This stayed like it for the whole stay.
Saturday night was a sleepless night as there were people outside screaming, shouting, calling each other, from which I assume, was from the pub next door. Apart from that, the hotel is exceptionally quiet.
We had the same experience in the restaurant as others. We booked in At 8pm and then overlooked. 45 minutes later we were told we could be seated but they wouldn’t be able to take our order for at least 10 minutes, We were given several reasons why we were seated late as ‘they were busy/had 2 large groups that they’d had to cater for/there was a mix up and our table had been given to a person on his own’.
We decided to run over to the fish and chip shop (which closes at 9pm) and eat in our rooms.
However, saying that, the food in the restaurant is fabulous. We had eaten there the night before and We would 100% definitely recommend.
I also agree about the daily cleaning of the rooms. If you want the room cleaned or the towels changed then please make sure you request it by putting the sign on the door each day.
Breakfast:- on arrival you get a list of breakfast items to select from. (Or you can select everything on there, if you don’t know what you want ahead of time).
I must say I preferred this as we got to our table at the selected time and the tea, coffee, juice, toast and cereals are bought to you straight away. Hot breakfast is bought out later, piping hot. They were more than happy to bring you more toast, tea, etc if required.
The only other thing I could pick up on is the rooms DEFINITELY needs a fridge in there. If you are staying for a longer period as we did, we didn’t want to go out every night, but had to keep going to the bar for cold drinks.
Hotel on the whole is lovely and would definitely stay there again, but would Definitely not go back to Bodmin as it’s a bit run down and there’s nothing to do of an evening.
Also, if you’re going there to see the jail, don’t bother. It’s closed and being turned into a hotel.
Overall a nice stay and a nice hotel.

The hotel is close to the centre of Bodmin and a good location if you want to explore the area.
The rooms are average whilst the shower is above average and is probably one of the best features of the hotel, it is to a standard of a 4 star hotel.
The orientalists restaurant has a good menu and the service is good.
The hotel car park can frequently get full and access is difficult through a very narrow gap at the back of the hotel. There are other car parks across the road but these do charge a fee during the day.
Overall the hotel is a good place for a stop over, the staff are friendly, the location is within walking distance, and the rooms have everything one needs for a short stop over

Stayed for two nights, thought we would be late arriving so told them to expect us between 20 & 2100 as it was we arrived just before two. I went to reception apologised for being early, not a problem all the rooms are ready. Went up to the room, a few stairs to the first floor along a corridor and into a room overlooking a car park and a cottage that I assumed was an annex. We hadn’t booked the hotel for the views, we’d booked it for convenient location to Lanhydrock cricket club just outside Bodmin.
Lovely large room, twin beds, two armchairs, plenty of space for our small amount of belongings. The bathroom was also big with a nice power shower. Spotlessly clean as one would expect at any hotel.
Breakfast was ordered on a paper slip when you had to decide what you were having and when you were having it. I have to say I prefer to roll up when I’m good and ready, and make my mind up then, but it’s hardly a problem. All the staff were very helpful and bent over backwards to make sure everything was to your liking.

I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. It is in a central location and it was good value for money. I booked a single bed which wasn’t very comfortable but ok. There was noise outside as it was a Saturday night but not the fault of the hotel. The manager was very nice.
I was looking forward to going to the restaurant however it wasn’t a great experience. I turned up 10min early and asked if I could have my table. He said that it would be tricky as a big group have just come in. This was fair enough. But then I waited and waited in the bar area to be asked to my table but nothing. I eventually had to ask myself despite two other groups being invited in. Then I ordered the vegetarian spring rolls. The rolls were nice but it had the smallest possible amount of sauce you could ever imagine. I would have spoken to the waiters but as they were both so busy, I wasn’t able to get their attention. I had to wait far too long for the main dish and the waiter told me that they had just had a take a way for 11 people. I’m sorry but if you can’t look after the customers in the restaurant, then you shouldn’t take the takeaway order. I waited ages for the bill as well. I am not criticising the two waiters as they were clearly too busy, but I paid a lot of money and wasted a lot of time.

Stayed here for two nights. Good location in Bodmin, couple of minutes walk from pubs/restaurants and shops, and around 15 minutes to Bodmin Heritage Railway, so no need to get the car out. We were able to park relatively easily in the hotel car park but it is quite 'tight' parking and might be a problem if you arrive late. We also chose it because it is relatively easy to get to both coasts, eg Padstow in the North and Looe/Polperro in the South. We had a large room in the main part of the building overlooking the town, with a four poster bed and very large bathroom. Everything was clean and staff helpful and friendly. Breakfasts were pre-booked but fine and well cooked, but would have liked a 'fruit' course option. We ate in on one night and enjoyed the South Asian food. For good pub food and St Austell ales try 'The Weavers' in Honey Street, only a few minutes walk away. Best to book in advance though as can get busy.

Had a three night weekend stay with work colleagues recently. Room (14) was spotless, large and very comfortable with a big bed and it had everything I needed. Lovely bathroom too. I liked that I could turn the radiators on and off as I wished, but it was easy to forget and fry or freeze. A thermostat would be good (and would save the owners energy bills).
Pleasant and friendly staff team, and very nice restaurant.
Slightly odd that you have to order your breakfast choices the night before. If you don't change the order you'll get the same every day. However it does mean that the breakfast arrives promptly. I would happily stay again

We visited on a ‘all you can eat chicken’ evening, which is done every Thursday. This is NOT one of those buffet things, but a menu of excellent dishes ordered at the table and delivered by the most attentive and helpful staff. I’d particularly recommend the tempura chicken and Caesar salad for starters with Penang curry and sweet and sour for main. All dishes are starter size but you can order as many as you like. A fantastic way to try all the amazing food that the westberry has to offer. Most definitely going back again!

Stayed for one night arriving late. The receptionist was very welcoming and helped us with parking on the Hotel car park. Had a quick Gin & Tonic in the bar before bed and found the other residents very friendly and chatty about their holiday. The room was very large and thoroughly clean and the bed was comfy too 👍 the shower room was brand new with great Mira shower fitted. Breakfast was enjoyable and the staff were lovely and friendly. We will definitely recommend to others and stay again ! THANKYOU for a great overnight stay

We had two twin rooms for two nights in the annexe building at the rear of the car park. The rooms were modern, clean and plenty of space. A comfy table and chairs to enjoy our morning coffee. Water was hot. TV, WiFi, hair dryer, ironing board, extra pillows and blankets as well as heaters were all available in the rooms.
Breakfast was lovely. Plenty of extra toast and coffee. Very friendly staff, top service. Very clean breakfast room. Excellent cleanliness throughout.
Extra thanks to Mary for her Irish humour and friendly service.

Provided that we have a suitable room available in the main building (we would not put a 16-year-old in one of the annexes for their own safety) I see no problem with offering a single room to your daughter. I take it that she will be travelling unaccompanied on this occasion.
Le, Westberry Hotel & Restaurant
About 15 miles, or half an hour by car.
About four miles. The station is a long way outside the town.
No, I am afraid that it is not (walking distance, that is) unless you are a fit and keen walker. The total distance according to Google maps is about four miles, which would take me about 1H20. The problem is not the location of the hotel but of the station -- it is a considerable distance from the town.
