The positives: - Restaurant food is good, tasty evening meal and plenty of choice. - Restaurant has nice ambiance, lovely natural light, friendly helpful staff; there was a young man who was especially helpful, and a young lady on what seemed to be her first day, in training, who was also doing very well - Location - central spot, walking distance to local high street, museum, cafes, restaurants etc. - Helpful maintenance man - he walked by when we were at reception and saw that nobody was serving us - he made sure we were attended to The negatives: - Generally 'tired' - decor is old and not been attended to for some time; e.g. worn carpets in bedrooms - Noisy - have tried three different bedrooms on different occasions; all were noisy i.e. can hear kitchen staff below or noise from other rooms - Several of the hotel staff were rude and helpful; the man on the front desk was abrupt and respond to queries as though we were bothering him - customer service approach was missing (when a colleague asked where I was staying for the event and I said 'here', she was horrified and said 'we would not have booked this for you', mentioning previous experience of poor service) - The hotel manager was rude and unhelpful - simple request for tea and coffee for a roomful of delegates was met with 'it was not on the order form', 'I need it in writing'. This was despite my having left a note asking for refreshments early that morning - when mentioned, the response was 'we were told not to interrupt you / come into the room', which was untrue; there was an adjoining room and we had asked if people wild be coming through our room to get to that room, requesting that this did not happen - an entirely different and legitimate request.

Room was clean, heating good at a particularly cold spell, and the bed was decent However, very basic considering what I could get for the same, or less cost, in the area if I had travelled a few more miles. Decor was very 80s / 90s, that wallpaper, and when you looked for bedside sockets for charging (moved furniture), the old brass type sung out. 2 USB sockets, but a metre high from the floor so you'll need long charger leads, and rest your items on the floor. Newish carpet though. Bathroom modern although basic and cramped, shower was powerful, hot and damn good If you are there on business, you should check that there is a desk, as not all rooms have them Cutting down, so I declined sausage and fried bread with my breakfast (although I got a sausage) but would have expected a slight increase on the items I did want, at least 2 rashers of bacon instead of one, maybe 2 eggs too Warning, no biscuits in the room if that's what you like Seemed like I was waiting a long time to check, and the same for breakfast I'd stay again, but only for work purposes

I wasn't expecting much from a 2 star hotel, but i had a very pleasant stay. Staff all friendly, bedroom very clean, and a fan in the room as requested. Bathroom very up to date too. One thing could be improved in the bedroom are the cups and saucers, i prefer a mug, as you can get much more in a mug! Breakfast was pre-order, i was just happy with tea toast and cereal, though i did push the boat out and had Beans on Toast on the 2nd morning of my stay, obviously a cooked breakfast is available too. Maybe some croissants and some fruit to be put on the table would be a good idea. Hotel is very handy for the town, and the Bodmin & Wenford Railway which is a 10 ish minutes walk away but very uphill getting there! If i need to stay in Bodmin again i wouldn't hesitate to stay here!

Initially my wife and I spent 5 nights at the hotel, then spent two nights at our daughter,s home. We decided to delay our return to our home in the midlands until after the August Bank Holiday and so spent a further night at the Westberry. We found all the staff extremely polite and friendly and, every area of the hotel was spotlessly clean. The one area that could be improved would be the breakfast choice. Fruit etc. The breakfast that we had each morning was however excellently cooked.
