I can't articulate just how appalled I was at a recent stay my partner and son had at, Mercure Telford Madely Court Hotel but I'm going to try. We arrived Christmas Eve. The front desk was manned by the head chef, he said he was the only one there. Our rooms were in a separate building from the main hotel, which seemed odd as It felt like we were the only guests. There was no food service, due to covid I believe, but the chef did offer us heated up frozen pizza at £11.95 or a chili that he had made. I guess if we had accepted his offer ( I have severe food allergies) there may have been a problem. We went to the building block that housed our rooms. The front door had no lock, It looked like the door had been kicked in. The smell was so musty and stale in the hallway that we held our breathe to get to the rooms. The rooms: Both were freezing! We turned the heaters on which produced a puff of warm air. There was only 1 bath towel and one hand towel in the bathroom which was rather dirty. As there was no phone in the room (unbelievable, I've never stayed at a hotel that didn't have a phone to call reception) I had to go out in the freezing rain back to reception to ask for towels, heaters and another comforter. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up!!! As it was Christmas Eve and the entire town in Tier 3, we couldn't find anywhere else! What made it worse, we had a second night booked in our room. We survived the night but awoke to a cold room on Christmas Day. Thinking it couldn't get any worse, (oh how wrong were we) we turned on the shower, no hot water, yep, you read that right, no HOT water! My son ran his shower for what seemed like an eternity until his water ran warm. Being smelly guest at my sisters on Christmas Day wasn’t an option, so we had to grin and bare it for the good of the dinner table guests. We told the front desk that we wanted the hot water fixed and the heating sorted, plus a thorough cleaning of the smelly room for our second night stay. We were informed there was no housekeeping to clean anything, seriously, if we hadn't had spoken to someone, we would have returned to no hot water, no heat, an unmade bed and a filthy room. We were told that they would move us. I asked to be moved to the main building and was met with "we have been told by head office not to use the main house, just the one building” that we were in, AND the building that we were in hadn't been used for over a year. (That explained the damp musty smell) We had no choice but to return for our second night, and seriously it couldn't possibly get any worse, surely? Oh how wrong were we! The card key lock and door frame was broken and replaced with a Yale lock. Stay with me, the plot thickens..... We had the same lack of towels, the room was lukewarm and stains everywhere. I'm sure you want to know more about the broken lock? Well I'm no CSI expert, really I'm not, but... the bathroom lock was also missing, the window lock broken and the carpet stained red/brown under the window. So did the perpetrators escape? I'm guessing they did, and probably with our towels! So, as you can imagine, WE ARE NOT HAPPY. Now I know you aren't the Four Seasons or The Ritz Carlton, but after looking at the pictures of the hotel online you didn't look like The Stanley Hotel in the Shining either.…
The rooms (standard doubles) were really poor condition. I know you get what you pay for but there are minimum standards you expect from a hotel. One light in the bedroom and two in the bathroom need fixing; as does the curtain rail; the wallpaper needs re-pasting; and the hairdryer needs safety testing. A new mattress was needed as the springs were gone and a larger bedsheet required as this did not cover the whole mattress. The hallway smelled of smoke and/or weed. The positive was that the room was very dark and quiet, it was also a good size. Overall, I would not recommend staying here.
Stayed here for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary and couldn't have asked for anything more. Booked on a deal for £129 for the two nights, with bed and breakfast and evening meal on one of the nights. All correspondence with the staff, especially Atlanta, was quick and extremely helpful. We were upgraded to a historic room called Lakeside which overlooked the lake and boasted an antique four poster bed with authentic drapes, curtains and additional furniture. It was very atmospheric. Everything you need for a couple of days away was in the room and it was no trouble to get top ups of tea, coffee and water. The meal in the restaurant was really nice. Despite running a reduced menu here was still plenty of choice and the waiting on staff were very attentive. Breakfast was offered via room service if required at n additional charge and again, everything was lovely. The building and grounds is beautiful and only a 10 minute drive from Telford center and a 5 minute drive from Ironbridge. I will definitely be returning.…
Excellent all round service and quality. Location superb and everything "worked" exactly as it should. Could not be more different from previous reviews I haveread about this hotel. An excelent stay from checking in to checking out!
The building and grounds from the outside are absolutely stunning, but the rooms are awful. We stayed in room 25 for a night. Luckily we only paid £45 so you get what you pay for I guess. This could be such an amazing hotel if money was spent on the inside. As you walk through the halls the paintwork is really bad and there have been a few leaks by the looks of it with water dripping down the walls and a bad smell. In our room the walls were all scratched, wallpaper coming off the wall in one place, the bathroom had mould all over the ceiling because of no fan/ ventilation, towels weren't too clean (we brought our own) lots of limescale not cleaned, hair on the floor and even dust on top of the coffee machine Staff were friendly and breakfast ok but definitely not worth the extra £10 but this made have been if it's usually a buffet style which it isn't at the minute because if covid. Like I said if money were to be spent touching up the rooms is would be an amazing venue…
