A no nonsense restaurant with good wholesome food with no fancy swishes on the plates. An old traditional building under the shadow of Stirling castle with cobble road's and an open fire when cold . a good selection of cask and draft beers with whisky galore if you wish a tipple.

We went after a disappointing trip to the castle and had some great food well priced with great service during a busy period! Would recommend to anyone wanting a good meal at a great price! The only problem was the bees in the garden but we dealt with that

One of the nicest steaks I can recall. Chicken stuffed with haggis was also excellent. Lovely food in a great location at a very reasonable price with great sevice. Wouldn't hesitate to eat there again and staying overnight seems a likely solution.

My husband and I can't thank the staff enough for providing an outstanding service for our wedding reception held in their function suit, upstairs in the Portcullis. There are fantastic views of the castle and old Stirling town, very romantic. All our guests commented on the excellent food and service. The staff tended to every need and our glasses were... More

We had a nice room with a view of the Wallace Monument for 2 nights. We didn't spend much time in the room because we were next to the castle. We ate dinner in the pub there one night. The breakfast with the room was the best. I had salmon and scrambled eggs. The rooms were updated and clean. The... More

Visited on a Saturday evening.i phoned on the off chance to see if a table was available which I was lucky there was. The staff were really friendly. The food was excellent. We had a main course and a dessert . the menu is really good. Prices are reasonable. We will of course be returing.

Having popped in for late lunch (Thursday) it was very busy and with no tables inside we opted to eat in the courtyard which was very nice. 6 of us had meals ranging from steak pie which was outstanding, scampi also presented very well and tasted really great and burgers that were pronounced the best ever tasted by 2 of... This was such a fun and unique place to stay! With it being right next to the Church of the Holy Rude and at the base of Stirling Castle and parking out front, it made for easy sightseeing. We had dinner both nights here as the food was delicious. They were so friendly and accommodating as we had to leave... More
