My husband and I stayed here 2 nights as part of our 2 week trip around Scotland. It was a great location to do a day trip up to Glencoe. Out of all the places we stayed this was one of my favorites. Being next to the castle and feeling like you are living in history was amazing. We loved... More

Left my car outside to pay a visit to the graveyard for all of 5 minutes with a couple of friends (as it didn't seem busy). Returned to get my car to collect a parcel I was expecting, intending to return for lunch shortly after. Upon returning, another car was blocking mine. Was greeted with blatantly rude and (quite frankly... More

It looked like an interesting old building near Stirling Castle so we decided to drop in and take a look. We had a couple of drinks, there were quite a few diners in the later afternoon. There was a lovely outdoor area but a bit chilly during our visit.

My husband, two of our friends and I stayed here one night in August, 2015, in double-bedded and twin-bedded rooms on the second floor. Both rooms were small, but immaculately clean and the bedding was comfortable. The bathroom in the double-bedded room was quite large and had a spectacular view across the esplanade to Stirling Castle. The pub had a... More

This was the perfect location for our Stirling visit. We can highly recommend the rooms, as they were spacious and very clean. Not only did the room have a hot water pot but enough coffee/tea items were provided. The food in the restaurant was very good - I have to say the Highland Chicken was one of the best meals... More

We just had 2 panninis, a lager shandy and a glass of white wine spritzer, although it was busy, the service was quick and the food delicious. There is a larger menu if you want a full meal. They were accommodating for families with children.

We found the Portcullis Hotel to be a real disappointment. Even though we booked over six months in advance, only a double room with 2 twin beds was available. Once accepting that, we were further disappointed in the room itself as the bed mattresses were very lumpy and worn; the bottom bed sheet did not cover the mattress, leaving about... More

Stayed for 2 nights and ate in the restaurant on the first night. Greeted warmly on arrival but the rooms are up a few flights of stairs and it would have been nice to have been offered help with our luggage. Our room was smaller than expected but welcoming and had a super view, it was fun to sit at... More

A no nonsense restaurant with good wholesome food with no fancy swishes on the plates. An old traditional building under the shadow of Stirling castle with cobble road's and an open fire when cold . a good selection of cask and draft beers with whisky galore if you wish a tipple.

We went after a disappointing trip to the castle and had some great food well priced with great service during a busy period! Would recommend to anyone wanting a good meal at a great price! The only problem was the bees in the garden but we dealt with that
