Very sad to see this once lovely hotel look so dated. I chose it over the Premier Inn but was very disappointed with tired and dated room and scruffy looking bathroom that smelt damp. The shower would not turn off and I needed to get the staff to sort this out for me. Overall not up to standard and I won’t return.

We booked via Expedia for a family room for 2 adults and 2 children with half board. Upon checking in, we were told that they would only honour the adult half board as Expedia hadn’t informed them of the children. I showed the receptionist our Expedia confirmation email that clearly stated the 2 adults and 2 children with half board. She then assured me that the children had been added. However, when we got to our room we discovered only 2 of everything (towels, spoons, mugs, glasses) so my husband went to reception to request more (we only received extra towels from housekeeping) and decided to double check that the children’s half board had been added. To our dismay the children hadn’t been added and we were informed by an emotionless Restaurant Manager that we would have to pay separately at breakfast & dinner for our 2 children for the duration of the stay. We explained to the Restaurant Manager that today was our daughters 14th birthday (we had noted this on our booking and this information was also clearly stated on the Expedia confirmation email) but she looked at us blankly and shrugged her shoulders. Never before have I EVER been treated so poorly by an establishment. And no attempt was made to rectify the situation, we were told to contact Expedia if we weren’t happy?! Well of course we’re unhappy- we paid for half board for 2 adults and 2 children for 2 nights to be told that they would only honour the adults and not the children!!! That’s not how half board works for the entire family! A shameless con to get more money from their customers. They’ve still not responded to our email that we sent them regarding the handling of the situation- says it all really. Such a shame as the spa is wonderful as are the staff that work there. Poor show Stirling Highland Hotel- hang your heads in shame!

Stayed here with my best friend for a Christmas treat away from the family. Deal was advertised as a relaxing spa break with beauty treatment included. We booked a King room, as we always do, we'd rather have the bigger bed and just share. Showed up to find they'd taken it upon themselves to change us to a twin room. As much as I am sure this was intended as a nice gesture, the room we were put in was no where near the standard of the room we seen online and we now had two tiny, far too soft, single beds. Room was absolutely filthy, mirrors not cleaned. Window frame coated in dirt, bathroom absolutely disgusting and the heated towel rail in the bathroom was due it's PAT test nearly a decade ago. Beds were entirely buckled in the middle too. Plug socket by the bed didn't take plugs. As for the facilities, personally I think if you're going to advertise a relaxing break with use of all leisure facilities... maybe mention the gaggle of school children at their evening lessons? Beauty therapists were nice, but the lady who did my nails missed about 15% of my nails and the lady working on my friend actually thought it was appropriate to start discussing Trans rights of all things and how she doesn't understand them. After our treatments we were advised to chill in the "relaxation room" for fifteen minutes. Five minutes in the lady came in and asked if it was OK if she could take things away and tidy up. Relaxation over then, yeah? Not one, but two staff members swore at us in conversation. We assume we were treated differently as we're quite alternative looking, quite baby faced and have local accents. The receptionist even referred to us as "girls" at checkout. 2 married women in their mid thirties. On the whole, staff were friendly, just lacked the professional manner I would expect from a four star hotel. Breakfast also didn't seem like a four star experience. In 2023 I don't think it's too much to expect more dairy free hot drinks options than a black coffee with a room temperature jug of soy milk. Also, hot chocolate powder had been decanted with no clear indication of allergens visible. All in all, I feel like this is a three star hotel with a terrible housekeeping standard using it's grand building and location to masquerade as a 4 star hotel.

A quality hotel - quality room, quality food & quality service . We were allocated a large corner room on top floor with window views in three directions over Stirling & beyond. Very comfortable. Only fault was that the room fridge did not work at all over our 3 night's stay

This is the first time I've stayed in this hotel in seventeen years. It was warm and the staff welcoming. The room was AOK and suited our needs. The breakfast was first class, and would suit any visitor.

My friend and I went for an Afternoon Tea. The service was excellent. The food was good. On arrival, we input the registration number at reception. Needn't have bothered as now in receipt of £100 fine that I must appeal. There was parking on street outside hotel but reception assured us we'd be fine. Hotel don't appeal for you. What's the point in logging your reg?? Won't go back because I didn't sign up for Afternoon Tea with paperwork.

Urgently needs refurbishment. Old and worn. Despite this I don't think there is any pride in the place. Cleaning standards are appalling. Food could be a lot better. Stayed at the Grove in London before going to Sterling. The staff should go there and see what a great hotel looks like. Glad we only stayed one night. Worst hotel I have stayed in.

Attended a family wedding, the welcome was poor. When I asked for help at the main desk with an elderly disabled member of the family, I was promptly told only if one of us is available we are very busy. I am sure that any guest would have no problem in a member of staff excusing themselves for a matter of 3 minutes to help an elderly guest with getting to door and into taxi. Then today I got a parking fine ! £100 really, not a great way to treat a guest. I never seen the signs, I was also the driver for many guests, yes I brought them to your hotel to spend money and this is how we get treated.

Reception staff very friendly. Our room was on ground floor and was very comfortable. We had our dinner in restaurant and food was great. Breakfast was buffet and there was a great selection to choose from. We used the health suite and it was really nice, steam room especially. Definitely won't be last stay at this lovely hotel.
