Recently stayed here for a family get together. Checking in was a bit of a challenge as reception area was filled with wedding guests who seemed to be waiting on function room to open. Hotel is showing signs of wear and tear but is cosy and well run. Room could have been cleaner, particularly the bath which was very dirty under the taps and round the shower. Getting an afternoon drink took some time as the bar seemed very short of staff but those on duty were excellent when they had the time. Would stay again as much for nice friendly atmosphere rather than anything else.

Right in the centre of the old town, this is an old school converted into a hotel. The building is impressive and interesting. It even has a working observatory which can be seen by arrangement. All the staff were very welcoming and the room was comfortable and quiet. All the food and drinks were good. The showers and changing area in the spa are in need of a refresh but the gym and pool are perfectly serviceable.

Booked a night for a treat on our way home from a camping trip in Scotland. Brilliant location in the city centre, five minute walk from the castle or into the old town. Dog friendly room which is unusual in large spa hotels. Room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, although perhaps needed a bit of updating. Staying at the hotel gives you access to the spa and gym, which was nice. The hotel bar food was great and breakfast plentiful. Staff were all super friendly and helpful.

Booked a wedding reception here over a year in advance. Wedding planner changed to trainee a month before wedding. Rooms unsuitable told hotel was fully booked. Booked premium and deluxe rooms did not receive amenities expected. Visited reception who was indifferent to our pleas. Paid a premium for bad service. The tartan table runners on the top table looked like they’d been found crumpled at the bottom of a laundry bag. Contacted both wedding planner and manager privately before posting this review. Manager Jay seems to think it is my fault for not reporting the table runners, the sticky sweets stuck to the carpet between our sons deluxe twin room, the stains in our ‘bridal’ suite which smelt terribly. There were no bathrobes, wine or newspapers as advertised to behold by Jay again that all this has been stopped. Unanswered as to where the email was detailing this and what we were actually now getting in the deluxe and premium rooms above the standard. The bar tab for the evening, clearly stipulated to the wedding planner, who by the way was a no show the two days we were there, verbally on a phone call on loudspeaker, was used at a pre wedding tea party I booked because we were getting married later we paid for a full day of celebrations. Our wedding seemed to take second place to a wedding that was going ahead on Monday 12th after ours on Sunday 11th as we were asked about the staff decorating our reception room with fairy lights for the wedding the next day as it took 24 hours to set up. We did not want fairy lights as my evening theme was tartan and stags, but we obliged to say they could put them up. No MC to speak of which meant we had to get peoples attention for our two speeches. Believe me the list goes on and I am being fobbed off by the manager Jay to contact general enquiries at the hotel group as she believes we did not complain at the time. I have chronic osteoarthritis and relayed this to staff and I did say I could manage 3 steps, I am unable to bathe but can use a walk in shower, our room had shower over bath which I could not use. My step son (31) with fragile X which I always made sure they knew at the outset was also unable to shower as his shower was above a bath. Checking out I was told I’d paidonly a £55 deposit for our bridal suite and I owed a further £502 plus a bar tab of £274, plus £124 for taxis (this I knew about and was expecting) I was also charged £18.50 when I left with no authorisation or receipt. Reception staff had not got a clue and were not even aware that we had booked along with a few family and friends 2 nights for our wedding. Completely humiliated at checkout when we found family and friends were all being asked for more money prior to checking out. Now awaiting a reply from Cairn group to see what went wrong and why we were treated so abysmally. Absolutely stunning hotel outside, disgusted by the treatment inside

Stayed for a family wedding. Fixtures and fittings in our room were showing signs of wear... Eg towel rail was not secure and there was duct tape on the carpet. Breakfast disappointing: Eg. watery mushrooms, no yoghurt one day, no fruit salad. Used plates not cleared by staff. However, the wedding supper and venue rooms were excellent and the opportunity to visit the observatory, amazing. A little TLC and staff training could make a big difference .

Stayed here recently for 3 nights. Rooms had a horrible chemical smell, had to leave windows open all the time. Beds and in particular the pillows were so uncomfortable i left with bad back and neck pains. Asked for a softer pillow as they were like rocks and told they didn't have any. Beautiful old building in the heart of the old town of Stirling; deserves a serious make over, decor is from the 1980s.

Amazingly friendly staff. That's about all the good we found during our stay. Uncomfortable beds, rusty shower with no hot water (but the sink had scalding hot), water in fact came our brown intermittently! Previous occupant shower cap left behind. Broken side table, and room service food tasted awful and made us both have stomach issues.

no USB charges, No phone numbers listed to call front desk, etc. Very difficult to find where to park due to it's location. Front desk - no personality, it seemed if i asked a question it was an imposition. room and bathroom was clean - nice view from our room - however rooms badly need to be updated!!!!! would not recommend

When we arrived parking was easy and plentiful. Welcome from staff at reception was good . Our room was very clean, bed comfortable and we had 3 good night's sleep. The room had all amenities we required including a fridge . The bathroom was clean with a good shower. Breakfast was standard hotel buffet style but the evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. The chef here obviously enjoys their work and the presentation of the dishes were delightful. All very tasty too. A special thank you to Pat who took time to take us on a visit up to the observatory, we had asked if it was possible, she told us many facts about the telescope and the history of the hotel. She didn't rush us and we got some fantastic views from the tower. A quiet location and in easy walking distance of Stirling attractions. Left the car in the carpark to do these, two days of no driving. The leisure centre staff were also very friendly and we enjoyed a good swim/jacuzzi/sauna session. Thank you to all there for a relaxed break. Would definitely return here .
