The cottages are right on the water, two docks, kayak and row boats are available. The step down onto the sandy water for an afternoon swim in the crystal clear water. Built in 1942 these log cabins are spotlessly clean with a sweet kitchen (stove w/over, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker. Common area has a stone fireplace. Two bedroom cabin sleeps seven. Rockers on the porch face the water for quiet coffee as you watch the loons and mallards in the morning sun. The owner, Renae, is friendly, ready to help with any questions. Ten cabins available, even for weddings! If you like nature, relaxing to the sounds of the lake and want to get away.....this is for you! We're going BACK!
If you’re looking to truly unplug, this is the place! They are no frills cabins, but have everything you need for a relaxing getaway. Renee is friendly and hospitable. There isn’t too much in the area, so be sure to bring what you will want/need (especially food!). Note: there is a small grocery store & dollar store if need be, but be mindful of their hours! The area is natural, beautiful, and peaceful.
Mountain Lake Cottages is in beautiful Westmore, on the shore of Lake Willoughby. The location is fairly remote. The cottages are well appointed. Everything you need to have a wonderful, relaxing time is there! Kayaking on the lake was just spectacular. The fall foliage was so pretty. We had a fire in the fireplace each night. The neighboring villages were fun to explore. Although we did not go hiking, there were many trails nearby. Renee, the owner, was always available to give guidance for things to do, places to go, people to visit. I cannot recommend this more highly.
I loved staying here. I'm an avid swimmer and the water quality of Lake Willoughby (a glacial lake) is beyond compare. It reminded me of a much bigger version of the glacial ponds on Cape Cod (the way they were in the 1970s before they got so crowded). Renee is the ideal host; anything you need appears almost magically. There is a huge woodpile for nightly fires, if you need a reading lamp or a flashlight for skinny dipping, no problem. The cabins are rustic and very cozy. the kitchen is simple and perfect for a vacation from elaborate cooking, there is plenty of hot water for showers if you get chilled from too many long swims during the day. The nights are cool and so silent...only the sound of loons on the Lake. The night skies are amazing! clusters of stars that feel close enough to grab. Other "campers" are respectful of your privacy or happy to make friends. The whole experience feels like a welcome disconnection from the stress and wired quality of life as we live it now. I've already booked for next year...a longer visit this time.…
Great spot on lake willoughby! Clean, cute cabins right in the water. Couldn't have been more peaceful. The cabins are definitely cabins but they are clean and well cared for. Anything you need you will find. Only important thing anyway is the beautiful deck to sit on and look out over the water...perfect. Lots of good hikes near by, boats to paddle around in, great spot to unwind and rejuvenate
