If you want to get away from the summer craziness of the Cape or the crowded beaches in Maine, go up to Mountain Lake Cottages in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Lake Willoughby is gorgeous, and the cottages are perfect for a relaxing week. Many people we met have been going there for years. It was our first time, but we’ll be back. The cottages were redone this past winter, so they have new roofs and floors and now have AC. The amenities are a bit tired (there is a mention of ping pong and tennis but that stuff is overgrown right now), but other than that it’s perfect!

My wife & I took our son up to Lake Willoughby and stayed 3 nights at Mountain Lake Cottages. We had an awesome 3 night vacation. Kris the GM warmly welcomed us and showed us our cabin # 3. Explained those things we needed to know for our stay and offered her help with anything we may need for the next 3 nights.

All the cabins have undergone an extensive makeover during the off season. New floors, heating/cooling system, new mattress's in each bedroom and stainless steel pots & pans in the cabinets. These upgrades added to the charm & character of the log cabin.

We unpacked and settled ourselves on rocking chairs on the front porch within 50 feet of beautiful lake Willoughby. The warm sunshine and brisk breeze off the lake made it perfect for relaxing after a long drive from our home in Massachusetts.

The Lake Willoughby Store just a minute or two down the street made it convenient for ordering a delicious pizza and turkey wrap for dinner on the porch. After hours of peaceful, relaxation on the porch we were tired. There was no problem sleeping on the comfortable beds. We slept like a log each of the 3 nights. The new heating/cooling system came in handy to take the chill off the cabin in the mornings.

We spent the next couple of days exploring the region. Driving to the top of Burke Mountain and all around the area. In Lyndonville, we found the town common a perfect spot for our picnic lunch. Sub sandwiches & chips from the Lake store were delicious!

The cabins are rustic but a perfect place to sit back and relax and enjoy the lake. The sunsets are incredible over the lake and the loons make it special.

We highly recommend Mountain Lake Cottages for your next getaway. Kris's hospitality and the warmth of the log cabins will make it worth the trip.

We were looking for a base to stay and kayak several lakes and ponds in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont in early September (after high tourist season). Mountain Lake Cottages are located right on crystal clear Lake Willoughby and were exactly what we were looking for: two separate bedrooms and a very complete kitchen (with full size refrigerator) and direct access to launch our kayaks. Kris, the property manager was lovely, and provided the coffee maker of our choice, a microwave and offered assistance with anything else we needed. The interior of our Cottage was a lovely rustic log cabin with a stone fireplace, very clean, with very comfy beds, a nice covered porch to enjoy our morning coffee and glass of wine in the evening. Even the loons on the lake called loudly for us to the porch! Kayaks were available, but, we brought our own and were able to launch from the property, although the launch area is down a grassy hill and a little tricky to maneauver (a little work on the kayak launch area would be helpful for serious kayakers). There's a nice wood stair to a sandy swimming area (the weather was perfect for our swim - the water clear and clean). We kayaked two days on Lake Willoughby and several other days travelled to some of the numerous bodies of water in the area, returning to a cozy cottage after our excusions.

While we didn't find many negatives, the steep driveway down to the cottages was a blit intimidting at first. Our trip was solely for kayaking in the area, but we did explore the property a little - there's a tennis court/basketball court (they need some care) and a hiking trail. But, overall, this was a great place and my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return!

I highly recommend this small resort for any one looking for a terrific, peaceful vacation on Lake Willoughby. The wonderful service began the minute we stepped out of our vehicle with Kris, the Manager, and her employee, Peter, helping my elderly mother to the cabin and then came back to help me unload our vehicle. Cabin #2, our rustic looking but fully updated, well stocked and very clean, home for our 3 day stay was 100' from the water's age and had the most amazing view of Lake Willoughby, the mountains and the gorgeous sunsets. Even though it was Memorial Weekend, the property was very peaceful. There are 2 docks on the lakefront where guests can moor their own boats or use the rowboats provided.

My niece and I had a relaxing two night stay at cabin #1 of this magical place. Our cabin sat atop the second tier of gently rolling hills that led to the sparkling Willoughby Lake below. We cooled off in the crystal clear water, took a gorgeous hike a short drive from the cottages and ended our stay with a fantastic and relaxing kayak ride, lasting about 2 hours, provided by Clyde River Recreation- the nicest guys you'll ever meet! Lastly, our cottage host, Renee was expertly attentive and accommodating. It is instantly apparent that she loves her job and making her guests happy. We look forward to making our adventure here an annual event,

This trip exceeded our expectations! Gorgeous setting, cottages are beautiful!!!! The ac can be adjusted in every room and works like a dream. Attention to detail shows in every aspect! Kris was amazing with our 6 and 8 year Olds. You can tell she just wants guests to be happy and comfortable and goes to great lengths to ensure this. When we were ready to grill she delivered a charcoal grill right to our cottage. Having been to Lucerne, Switzerland, I can see why some call this spot "little Lucerne." The flowers and landscaping are just photo worthy. The cottages have absolutely everything you need to reside in comfort when on vacation.

My husband and I had the most wonderful weekend away at Mountain Lake Cottages. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the manager Kris who instantly made us feel at home with her kind and welcoming demeanor. The cottages have been recently updated and were very cozy. The bed was super comfortable! It was wonderful having a full kitchen with all new tablewear/serving dishes/utensils at our disposal. Honestly, the spot couldn’t have been more idyllic. We loved sitting on our porch watching the sun set as we rocked in the rocking chairs. Nearby was the Willoughby Lake Store for any quick snacks or milk, not to mention a great take out window and ice cream. We honestly can’t wait to return. If you’re looking for the perfect quiet get away where you are treated like proverbial “family favorite”, don’t think, just book a cottage at Mountain Lake Cottages! You won’t be disappointed.

We unexpectedly had a couple of days in the NE Kingdom and reached out to Kris at Mountain Lake Cottages the night before our arrival - definitely operating on a wing and prayer. She was really responsive and welcomed us to the only cabin that was available at the time. #9! During our stay we got to hike the gap, swim off the dock, use the life jackets and enjoy the hammocks, and when it came time to BBQ she loaned us a Weber and some charcoal. We're already looking forward to going back soon! Don't miss it if you get a chance. Like a time capsule to a waaaaay simpler time, but with all the modern conveniences you might want.

Jim and I have been returning to Mountain Lake Cottages for nearly 20 years. Lake Willoughby and it’s surrounding mountains provide incredible opportunities to enjoy, boating, fishing, hiking and memorable sunsets.
The cabins at MLC are fully and thoughtfully equipped and recently renovated to enhance ease, comfort and personal tastes. The effortless heating/cooling system was a real bonus with this year’s variety of weather changes!
Kris ,the manager, continues the long and welcoming tradition of cheerful and immediate responsiveness to individual needs and suggestions. No request goes unanswered.
It is always a pleasure to stay and difficult to leave as there is always more to explore and enjoy.
Cannot wait to return!!

We stayed at this lovely place for four days. Cottage #3 was perfect for the two of us and our dog. The bedrooms were quaint, and the full kitchen had everything we needed. It also has the best view of Lake Willoughby from the porch. They had boats to use. We brought our motor and loved being on the clean, clear lake. Listening to the loons in the morning was magical and the sunsets were stunning, another reason to choose cottage #3! Kris, the manager, is a delight! She is very welcoming and helped us with any questions we had. We will definitely be back.

Good morning, I am so sorry but we don't accept any pets; not that we don't like them but we had bad experience in the past. Sorry again.
