We live locally and spend most days whizzing up the 361 from Mullacott to Braunton and often saying we must pop in to Trimstone Manor. So yesterday we did and what a lovely welcome we received. We sat in the beautiful garden with such a lovely homely feel with far reaching views, and cows in the distance. We had our scone, coffee and tea (a large pot for one) sitting on a big sturdy bench. Then off to visit the birds including two emus, ducks, geese, chickens, a rooster…. The lady serving us was really pleasant and we had chats with many of the staff who were very welcoming. So lucky to have this on our doorstep.

Just returned from a week’s stay in Trimstone Manors Field View Caravan. First things first this is a dated caravan, but very comfortable and has everything you need. If you’re looking for a gold rate caravan this won’t be for you. We loved the place, the caravan has a dated charm and is set in a large paddock which is ideal if you’re holidaying with a dog. The paddock has a bird menagerie including Turkey’s, Emu’s & Geese. It has plenty of room for children to play safely with a large trampoline. The manor itself is lovely and secluded, ideal place to relax and unwind. The staff were brilliant and friendly and very accommodating. There’s an indoor pool, small gym and games room for the kids. The manor does a cracking cream tea to boot. It’s not often I get that gutted feeling when I leave a holiday accommodation, but I was genuinely sad to leave as we all enjoyed Trimstone. I’m definitely booking for next year. In summary, if you’re not overly fussy about how modern a caravan is give it a whirl, the setting more than makes up for for it. 2 adults, 1 12 year old and a springer spaniel loved it.

We stayed in the Manor Cottage at Trimstone Manor from the 25th June for a week as a family of five. We really enjoyed our stay, and would stay again. Here's the pro's and con's of each to sum everything up: Pro's: * Quiet location * Handy indoor swimming pool * Games room for the children * Variety of birds for the children to look at and interact with on the field * No noise heard from any neighbours, as the walls are easily a foot or so thick * Well equipped and spacious cottage * Comfy beds and sofa's Con's: * Access is down a one track road, with several bends, so had to be very careful * Games room is in need of a freshen up and repairs to some equipment * A thorough dusting is needed, as noticed plenty of dust on flat surfaces * Double glazing would be preferred for the downstairs, where the bedrooms are, as it does get cooler than the upstairs living area, and you can hear cars arriving outside your bedroom The con's are liveable with though, just be aware of them. Overall a lovely place with kind staff.

Hotel is very dated and needs tlc, we stayed in a pet friendly room that smelt damp, had a noisy bathroom fan that had a sign asking you to leave on to prevent setting fire alarms off and was just generally a pretty bleak experience. Maybe the other rooms are better but after seeing the state of the room we decided to skip exploring the pool or any of the other listed amenities. My main concern was we were woke at around 2am to the sound of squeaking rats running around in the ceiling which is pretty alarming. I mentioned this to the lady on reception when I paid and checked out, and she mentioned somebody had mentioned something previously but thought it could of been bird's.... I advised it absolutely wasn't bird's that we heard scurrying around and squeaking, she then replied to say it's what you expect being out in the country side..... Agree to disagree on that one. I'm not in the habit of leaving reviews, especially ones that aren't great but feel it's needed here as the hotel just doesn't live up to expectations or cleanliness of a £120 per night rated room.

Dear ChrisK Thank you for your review though disappointed that you did not enjoy your one night stay in your dog-friendly room and felt that all we deserves was 'poor'. We are bemused that you say last weekend was damp as it has been so dry and hot recently so that makes no sense. The sign in your room does certainly NOT say leave the bathroom fan-on all night! How daft. It says clearly 'please ensure you use the fan when you USE the shower to ensure excess steam doesn't activate the heat sensors of the alarm (some guests seem to shower with the door open too, not confining the steam to the shower!) I do wish you had asked us about that if you did not understand. We are an historic building with roots back to Domesday. Since we have been here have spent over seven figures on refurbishment, upgrading and improvements. We are still what we are and it appears we were not for you. We level ourselves at three star and are priced accordingly and not five star which we don't want to be, but a comfortable homeliness which most guests really welcome and enjoy. We have old and antique furniture and surroundings where we can and these are appreciated by guests. If you want Ikea - that's not us. I am very sorry if you were awakened by any creatures in the roof space (well above your ceiling) - we are in the middle of the country and despite keeping on top of the problems from a hygienic perspective, unfortunately occasionally we do suffer visits but that is par for the course wherever you go sadly. We are also very nature conscious so try to encourage wildlife as well (I hope you noticed how many wild birds there are around the Place for example) so a delicate balancing act. It could easily have been jackdaws which seek-out any possible opening for their nests too. Everywhere was full that weekend (as most weekends are these days) so I am not quite sure what you will expect for what you pay but clearly please ensure you choose a modern property next time and also not one in the Countryside - which the vast majority of our guests enjoy instead. Yours sincerely

The Manor is set in lovely grounds with gorgeous views of open countryside in an away from it all location but within easy reach of local attractions. I would describe the manor as shabby chic, but that is meant as a compliment, it has lots of character. The couple who manage the hotel are very helpful & try their best to look after their guests but I do think more staff are needed. The food is plentiful ( especially the breakfasts ) & the dinner menu is mostly fairly typical 'pub' type but of good standard. We enjoyed our stay &definitely hope to return to enjoy the special ambience
