Hotel well situated in Ilfracombe within a very interesting environment. Our standard room was large, comfortable and had been newly decorated with modern fitments. Spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the food with plenty of choice at breakfast and the evenng meals. With four drinks vouchers a night it made the holiday very inexpendive. The Shearings coach was comfortable and the skilful...

My wife and I have just returned from a 5 day break with Shearings. The hotel was well placed for the beach and the town. Our room, , had recently been modernised, it was clean, warm and had a flat screen TV. The food was typical Shearings but there was lots of choice, well cooked and ours was always hot,...

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your comments. I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Ilfracombe is a seasonal resort and all the shop and ammenities normally start their season at the end of March, ready for easter. Well located middle of the road hotel which has been made up from two previous old hotels each at a different level and what appears to be another house at the end, This means floors are at different levels and plenty of stairs so anyone with walking or climbing stairs difficulties should make sure that get a room which suits...

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your comments. As you said, the hotel has different levels. The left hand side of the hotel used to be a private house called Dilkhusa ("House of the happy heart"). Middle section used to be a hotel ("The Grand Hotel"), and the left side of the hotel used to be...

Stayed here on a four day trip with Shearings. We were very unfortunate as it poured rain every day! The main areas of the hotel are attractive and well looked after. The food in the evening was good. The cooked breakfast was excellent! Everything you could want. Fresh tomatoes - I hate tinned. Really good bacon and the eggs just...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated on the level seafront of this hugely popular Victorian seaside resort stands the welcoming Dilkhusa Grand Hotel. The hotel was originally a private house, bought by a Raj at the turn of the last century as a gift to his wife - Dilkhusa translates from Hindustani roughly as ‘House of the Happy Heart!’ The hotel overlooks the picturesque Runnymede gardens and is close to the Landmark theatre which attracts many national acts. It is also just a short walk from the bustling 10th-century harbour where Britain’s most famous living artist, Damien Hirst, owns a restaurant. The Dilkhusa has a well-appointed restaurant combining excellent hospitality and service. A spacious and comfortable entertainments suite provides the ideal setting in which to sit back and enjoy the acts at this friendly and sociable hotel. ... more   less
