I booked to stay here based on reviews on TripAdvisor, but noted one recently in which the guest was told at the last minute that the room was no longer available. I booked on the morning of my intended stay and received confirmation by email and then text. A few minutes later I received a text saying the room wasn't available after all due to a lady having had a bad fall. Amazingly, though, she didn't need hospital but couldn't leave the hotel.

The breakfast was lovely , that’s the only positive thing I can say sadly. After reading the other reviews I feel like I stayed in a different place. I was expecting a clean room at least. The room had a really stale smell that hit you when you walked in, the bedding was stained, and smelled old, there was dust and stains on everything. The facilities were basic to say the least. There was no hooks in the bathroom meaning you had to leave clothes on the dirty floor as you showered. There was one old lamp in the room. We were given one towel each for three days. The curtains were hanging off the rail. The carpet was stained and the whole room felt dirty and unpleasant. It wasn’t cosy, didn’t feel worth the price and I wouldn’t return. If you’re thinking of booking make sure you’re not in room 3.

No stranger to Whitley Bay as we have stayed here previously on our annual cycling jaunts but can quite honestly say that this is by far the best guest house we have stayed in! So highly recommend this place! A gem of a find and Mariea who owns the guest house is simply lovely and nothing is too much trouble. We arrived as a large group of tired, hungry, cold cyclists after completing the coast to coast challenge (17 of us in total!!) Mariea had everything organised to the smallest detail which was greatly appreciated. Our bikes were stored safely & securely; our rooms were waiting with everyone in the group knowing exactly which room to go in ,,,, the rooms were very spacious, extremely clean & tidy with everything we needed within them. The best night's sleep of the entire trip certainly!!! We awoke in the morning to Mariea & her staff greeting us with fresh coffee or tea/orange juice and a large home cooked full English breakfast!! The food was simply divine. Thank you Mariea for everything; highly recommend Cara guest House if you are ever in the area. Hopefully I'll get to stay again soon!!

Maria and Ann couldn't be more helpful; very professional but friendly and so approachable. Nothing is too much trouble. The guesthouse is nicely decorated, clean and upto covid standards. Breakfast was well above average and real bacon & sausages ( not filled with sawdust & water) was beautiful. The kettle in our room with drinks and tea, coffee etc was great but the doggy gift pack was unexpected and just such a sweet idea ( our 3 cockers were very happy) Our 2.5hr journey to get here turned into a 7 hour nightmare but texting Maria to keep her upto date with our eta and she was at the door to welcome us 4hrs later than expected. Absolutely love it, and we will certainly be back next year!

Stayed for one night on a Sunday and had a wonderful time. Excellent location for exploring Whitley Bay and the views from our room were stunning, our room very tastefully decorated and very comfortable, breakfast was delicious, the lady looking after the place that weekend was very friendly and accommodating with our needs. Would highly recommend, we were not disappointed!
