Very convenient for ferry 7 mins
Walking distance if you work round the long standing prom refurbishment works. The bane of the locals and businesses
The reason we chose it’s location

A bus stops 40 yds away to take you up to Derby castle tram stop
It’s just round the corner from the Quay and restaurants

Hotel was lovely and would stay again
Room and bathroom was a tad small but is dictated by the sheer fact of the buildings being converted from series of houses.. but quite adequate really.

I did look to upgrade to sea view but only back / hole view ones left. There were only about 12 of us in the building but then two parties of 25 each arrived so that explains it

Comfy bed although only a double. Size dictated. Was a very very unusually hot week. Housekeeping had installed a room fan Thank you so much
I was hoping it would not be removed for the elderly tour!
We found a way of opening the bedroom window wider which also helped but I don’t think it will get that hot on the IOM again !
Rooms clean and fresh towels every day regardless Coffee/ tea tray restocked daily. Shower and Bath. Toiletries
Safe hairdryer
We were on second floor and there are corridors and a lot of stairs to get up and down
Mindful of that ..
The sheer makeup of the building. We walked up a flight to 3 Rd floor lift. Easier.
The breakfast was fabulous and a great variety and of very well cooked and interesting hot dishes
Luxury
There is a restaurant which looked hi standard of food being enjoyed nightly once the groups arrived
We ate locally on the quay
Lovely dining room and very nicely appointed public rooms to enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the bay

The staff were all so so friendly and helpful
Smiling and eager to help
Everybody was so pleasant

nirvana90 , Can I say we do a great Champagne with out been to modest !! We did invest in a brand-new coffee maker so our coffee kings such as yourself put us really too the test. A gym we don't have as such the cardio of navigating our floors really dose make up for it , but we do have an elevator that can get you where you need too be just incase the cardio root is not for you.!! Thank you for a great review and I look forward too seeing you back with us shortly.

The Claremont is quite rightly one of the best 4 /5* hotels in Douglas. It has an excellent location on the lovely promenade which is under renovation at the moment and will be spectacular when the work is finished and the horse drawn carriages are restored so it is easy to reach the Electric railway to Ramsey. The hotel is close to the ferry and bus terminals, the main shopping street and other entertainments. Staff in the hotel are exceptional, professional, friendly and informative. The public rooms are smart and comfortable although the television room is in the cellar and not accessible to us during our stay. The restaurant is one of Douglas's locals favourite haunts which tells you everything. Service with a smile and excellent food is the order of the day whether for breakfast or evening meal. We were also on a Rail Tour so no car which is not a problem in the Isle of Man in fact travelling around by rail and bus makes it all the more enjoyable. However, The Claremont, like many hotels in Douglas, is a collection of neighbouring Victorian House ( eight in all, I think ) which gives it very little latitude to renovate the rooms especially their layout. The rooms with sea views are fantastic in every way ( read other reviews ) whereas those at the rear, where we were given, are small, dingy, cold and not at all welcoming. The beds are okay ( twin room with one bed up against the wall ), the bathroom was modern and lovely, wooden floor, only an office chair to sit on which moved on its own due to an uneven floor. Good facilities replenished daily. We looked out onto a back lane which was not pleasant so the hotel had curtained off the lower part of the window making it even darker inside. If I had only known that the difference between the character of the bedrooms were world's apart I would certainly up graded. You live and learn and have been warned.....especially if you are on the popular Rail Tours.

Stayed here for 5 nights as part of a Rail Tour group. We had selected a sea view room which was very spacious with easy chairs in the bay window, giving superb views across the bay. There was also a huge bathroom with separate walk in shower and his and hers basins. The room was serviced daily and toiletries and tea, milk, bottles of water etc replenished. There was a lift although a short flight of stairs needed to reach the room on the second floor.
Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of fruits and cereals and hot food was ordered separately from the menu on the table. Our deal included dinner where there was a good choice from three starters, mains and desserts. All meals were prepared and presented to a high standard.
Staff were efficient and welcoming at all times.
The hotel is near the sea terminal (only a short walk from the ferry), the steam railway station, the main shopping area and Manx museum but quite a long way from the electric tram station at the far end of the promenade. However there is a good bus service along the promenade and our package included a travel pass and heritage pass.
In summary it was a great holiday in an excellent hotel.

Stayed here with a group visiting the area. We had booked a suite. Good size with a sitting area, large shower room and separate bedroom, but there was no view as we were at the back of the hotel. Unfortunately the extractor vent was right outside the bathroom window, which made the whole room noisy from 5.45 until 22.30 each day. We also had the noise of the bottles being emptied into containers each day. However, the room was very comfortable with two TVs, a kettle and a coffee machine. The turn down service left a couple of chocolates each night, a treat. The bed was very comfortable, with lovely pillows. The fan was needed as it was quite warm, but could be left on as it was almost silent. The shower was very powerful, plus you had the option of the hand shower. Towels were soft and fluffy and changed regularly. Breakfast was very good, our group was allocated a t8me so you weren’t kept waiting as hot food was cooked to order. The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy. For our group dinner was three courses with three choices in each so vegetarians were catered for. Good quality food presented well. The restaurant staff were professional, but always smiling, especially the two David’s. A very convenient location, but I’d ask for a room at the front if staying here again.

Took advantage of the Claremont staycation package this weekend which includes a stay in a sea view executive room, three course dinner in Coast restaurant and breakfast. Having done many similar stays this year around the island, the Claremont is head and shoulders above the rest. The service is impeccable from check in to check out. Room was spotless, spacious and comfortable. Robes and slippers a lovely touch, as was the hand written card from management welcoming us.
Dinner in Coast was stunning as usual with five star service.
The room had been turned down whilst we were out for the evening which I haven’t seen in a local hotel before.
Breakfast was as delicious as expected.
The staff are a credit to the hotel and I would definitely stay again, the quality makes this very good value.

Good location despite construction on the prom but did not effect our stay . Extremely friendly staff and very welcoming. Room good size , very warm at night despite the fan on all night . Bed low and squeaky but quite comfortable with a tempur mattress . Plenty of tea , coffee, hot chocolate , various flavour teas of great quality and always topped up well . Bathroom toiletries were good , the shower was great and had a tv in there .
Hairdryer provided , plus robes and slippers and there was also a turning down service . There could have been some hooks on the back of the doors for the robes and somewhere else for our coats as we did find this a pain.Stayed for five nights and would have liked the room swept or hoovered in between which it was not ,plus it got dusty ,so housekeeping did let the hotel down on this occasion .
Breakfast had a fabulous selection and there was no surcharge on the menu which is unusual these days . We were however surprised there was no option to have vegetarian sausages with a cooked breakfast, however there were lots of variety on the breakfast as a whole which satisfied my vegetarian husband . All in all we had a great stay and would stay again if we should find ourselves back on the Isle of Man .

The Claremont is a lovely, modern hotel, ideally situated directly on the prom in Douglas and just a short walk from the Ferry Terminal. We arrived in the evening and were checked in very quickly by a friendly and helpful receptionist.
Our room (number 216) was disappointingly, very small and was accessed by a lift and several sets of steps up and down. The room was warm and comfortable with twin beds and an ensuite that was as big as the bedroom. We found the beds very comfortable and the whole place scrupulously clean. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and found the staff very friendly and eager to help.
One issue that we did have was when we decided on one evening to eat the Lite Bites shown on the bar menu as being available up to 9.30 pm. When we went into the bar and approached a member of staff to order food at 5.30 pm, we were informed that the tables were set for dinner which started at 5.45, and if we wanted to eat Lite Bites we would have to have our food in "The Lounge" which basically meant sitting on low settees and low tables in reception. We declined and left to eat elsewhere.
Please be aware that this hotel is totally unsuitable for persons with limited mobility, as there are steps up to the front entrance and in many of the bedroom areas.

We booked a 5 day Heritage Short Break deal at the Claremont and tacked on 2 nights B&B. It was exactly what we were looking for as included was the 5 Day Manx Heritage Pass. Hotel staff were great. Excellent location on Loch Promenade close to shops and amenities. Food good quality. Half board incuded in the deal with choice from the main menu. Room was good size as was the bathroom though the shower wand was weak and water temperature was difficult to control. No bread or rolls on the cold food breakfast table which I found strange and one day I asked for bread and was told that only toast was available. A couple of niggles but overall I stongly reccommend the Claremont.

We do normally offer Farmer house bread on the continental buffet self servers to our Inhouse guest as an option besides the brown and white toast that is a standard with every order taken , Thank you for bringing this to our attention we will make sure that it is followed going forward. We hope to welcome you back in the near future and you can let us know of your preference before hand Happy travels .

If you are looking for a nice, clean, quiet four star hotel on the Isle of Man - Douglas Bay Promenade, with lovely staff for who nothing is too much trouble then look no further than the Claremont. We booked a week with Great Rail Journeys who used the Claremont hotel as their base for the Vintage Railways of the Isle of Man. The sea view rooms were spacious with comfortable chairs in the bay window over looking the Loch Promenade. The bathroom was large and spacious with walk in shower as well as a bath. Plenty of towels, robes and slippers were provided. All the other amenities you would expect were there, fridge, kettle, coffee maker, hairdryer, iron, fridge - everything you want. The restaurant was open to public with an extensive à la carte menu. The excellent meals for the Great Rail Tour Guests were from a special menu arranged by Great Rail. Breakfasts were as you would expect continental, European, cooked - everything. I would give special praise to the receptionist Veni who organised my extra wedding anniversary requirements which were perfect. Sincerely and in good faith TMR&TPR May 2022

Hi,

Just felt we needed to leave a review due to the fantastic experiance we had when staying at your Hotel for 3 nights over the weekend of the 25th Jan. Our Room was stunning with a lovely big bay window over looking the Sea front with all the amenity's you could want. The biggest thing that impressed were the staff, all so friendly and nothing was to much trouble and so attentive especially the people who serviced your room and the people who under took the nightly turn down.

Beds were memory foam and amazingly comfortable!

Breakfast and Food in the Restaurant was really nice.

We have stayed in many really nice Hotels all over the world and I can't remember us experiancing such fantastic customer service.

We will definetly be back!

Thanks
Lee & Carol

Dear Lee and Carol, Thank you so much for your fabulous review! Whilst we are immensely proud of the hotel design and facilities, we work hard to ensure that what sets the Claremont apart from others is the level of customer service and attention to detail. As such, our entire team will be delighted to read your lovely comments and wonderful comparisons to the many hotels around the world as you have previously visited. Many thanks once again and we do hope to see you upon your next visit to the Isle of Man!. Regards, Mark

They certainly have lifts internally... The access front the street might be the issue but I would encourage you to email or ring them... There is plenty of room in the restaurant and other common areas. Apologies for not replying sooner.

Answer from Linda M
Berthoud, Colorado155 contributions109 helpful votes
The Claremont will give you a parking disk. You can then park on the street for free displaying this disk. However, you must move your car every 2 hours (or 3, I can't remember). You can't just go out & change the time on the disk, you have to physically move your car to a new spot. After a certain time (8pm, I believe), you don't have to move it til the next morning. But it is a nuisance. There is no other parking, however. There is a no disk zone, but it is a few blocks away.
