Stayed for 5 nights in July everything was wonderful room good size with a beautiful view. Had an excellent sleep well needed the hotel was very clean. Fresh milk every day with wonderful homemade biscuits. Breakfast everyday I chose different things and was perfect The views from the outside decking area for breakfast were amazing. Peter and Ruth plus staff were absolutely wonderful couldn’t fault them always very helpful. Looking forward to my next visit there hopefully very soon.
Booked through Booking.com and both advert and my invoice states breakfast included so I expected a cooked one however it is just cereals, porridge and toast, I queried this and the owner of hotel said it stated continental but upon checking on my return there is no mention of continental anywhere on advert or my invoice. A cooked breakfast is charged at £9.50 each per day and after paying £318 for a two night stay, it's a rip off for what we got. The owner Peter was quite abrupt at times and his wife Ruth didn't bother to acknowledge us at all during our 3 days there though I did see her once walking past me.Advert says blackout curtains, they were flimsy ones that let the light through and no coffee maker as advertised. Seating in room consisted of one chair for two people.Parking is minimal and we couldn't park on the car park. I expected much better facilities for the price paid, however the room was spotlessly clean with a lovely view and the hotel in a great position for Paignton and the beach. The reception area lovely and the breakfast (which wasn't worth £9.50 each) area was lovely. There are some excellent positives with the hotel yet they are outweighed by the negatives and certainly not worth the price they charge. I was happy to pay £318 for two nights but I expected better from this hotel for the price and the owner Peter not to be so abrupt. He made me feel uncomfortable in his presence afterwards, and to be honest I'm being kind with this review as I realise nothing is perfect. If breakfast, quality furnishings, service etc..was improved then the price we paid would be almost fair.…
Breakfast’s were smashing! Lots on offer and always left feeling stuffed. Our room was extremely clean, light and airy. Perfect view of the sea. Definitely recommend for a relaxing trip. Good location as within walking distance to lots of restaurants and bars. Peter is always friendly and very attentive. Definitely will stay again! Have already recommended to friends/family :)
This was my second stay at Channel View - I came by myself last year and loved it so much I brought my mom with me this time. Literally have nothing bad to say - the hotel is in a gorgeous location, the rooms are clean and comfortable with lovely views, owners Peter and Ruth are friendly and helpful, the breakfasts are delicious. Hopefully I’ll be able to come back again soon.
A pleasant, clean, small hotel which is owned and run by friendly people. the food was great, particularly the evening meals. They had a pleasing selection of local (bottled beers) Car parking was easy on site. No problems at all.
I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. Perfect location, perfect hosts and the attention to detail in the rooms is amazing. Peter and Ruth are so professional friendly at the same time. Cannot wait for our next stay.
The hotel is located in a quiet area close to Paignton at Preston Sands. The hotel is beautifully presented and very clean . We had to pre order our breakfast the night before which I have never had to do before but it was of good quality and there were a number of choices on offer. We ate on the Monday evening at the Bistro which was really lovely. The only downside it was closed on the Tuesday and Wednesday so we had to walk to Paignton for our meal. One thing that impressed me was the way Covid rules that were being followed in the hotel. I had to shield because I am considered vulnerable , I am still very nervous around strangers new places but I felt safe here .
I am a gold member and have used Hotels.com for over twenty years to book accommodation for business and leisure for over 20 years. Without exception, this hotel was our worst experience. We booked dinner, bed and breakfast at the Channel View on 2nd February 2022 at a cost of £240/night for 3 nights (3-6 June) in a “superior room” at the rear of the hotel. The last date for cancellation date was 4th May 2022. On 28th May, I received an email from the hoteliers, with 4 attachments, including check-in information (2 pages) & Covid-19 Policy (3.5 pages). After reading these, I think I may have cancelled had these been sent prior to the 4th May, because they felt so officious. On 30th May, Hotels.com sent an email which included “Check-in Friday, 3rd June 2022 (3 PM)”. When we arrived to book in at the appointed time, we were told that on-line customers must check-in after 6pm by one of the owners. The only concession was that we were allowed to leave our car and luggage. When I pointed out that Hotels.com stated 3pm, he answered, “That’s their problem” Subsequently, I reread the check-in information sheets sent on 28th May, in which there was no mention of the 6pm check-in. However, it was hidden away in an email sent on 2nd February (4 months beforehand). Therefore READ THE SMALL PRINT! On check-in, we were presented with another 1.5 page document summarising the dos and don’ts. We were also advised that even though we had booked dinner, bed & breakfast, dinner was not included and we had each been given a £25/night credit to spend at the hotel. This meant that we could only purchase two courses without breaking the budget! When I remonstrated, I was told that this was in their terms & conditions, READ THE SMALL PRINT! When we got to our first floor room, we were surprised to discover that the main railway line ran within 20 metres of the window. Up to 4 trains per hour run along this line from 6am to midnight. I cannot find any reference to this on the Hotels.com “show room information” site, but it may be included in the terms & conditions. READ THE SMALL PRINT! The hotel is well decorated and furnished and the evening meals are very good. However, I would concur with another gust who criticised the breakfasts (15 July 2017). It may come as no surprise that we will not be staying at this hotel ever again.…
We had a lovely two night stay, room and the rest of the hotel immaculate. Peter and Ruth very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was very comfortable, with the memory foam bed and goose down pillows, I had the best nights sleep as usually I wake up with either back or neck ache, when we’re away. We ate in the hotel both evenings and the food was good quality and reasonably priced. We will definitely be back. Thanks for making my birthday trip away a good one.
Well this hotel deserves 6 stars it has everything and we where made to feel extremely welcome by Peter and Ruth, it’s clean homely the food is amazing, the sea view is outstanding and it’s in a fabulous location and there is parking, our room face right over the sea… Do not hesitate to stay at this beautiful boutique hotel….. Thank you for being you….
