We stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights and couldn't have picked a better hotel. The manager and all staff were professional, friendly and helpful. There were Covid systems in place that made us feel safe. The decor of the hotel is lovely and the food was lovely and cooked just right. We were in room 13 which was spotless and clean on arrival. With a good shower and facilities. The room was a little dark but didn't put us off as we were hardly in the room as there was plenty to see around Durham. Car parking was free which was a bonus and the location was brilliant just 5 mins out of centre and a few minutes from train station. Will definitely be returning and would recommend the hotel.
I love my food this Sunday lunch was the best I have ever had beef was tender and tasty veg cooked to perfection great service and good atmosphere well worth a visit you should try it I'm sure you will not be disappointed
I booked a one night stay at this pub with rooms recently having legitimate and allowed cause during the Covid crisis to visit Durham. The hotel was extremely quiet with very few people. As a well travelled mature woman I could not believe the way I was treated being literally shouted at on arrival at breakfast in front of other guests over an issue which I had arranged previously over e-mail and with reception staff on arrival. There was absolutely no need for this. Everything I was telling the exceptionally unhelpful waitress was falling on deaf ears and was either being ignored or disbelieved with her arguing back and the (what I would assume was) the duty manageress actually sitting there letting it happen even though she had agreed things with me on arrival - she was too busy tucking in to her own breakfast. I have never had such poor service or an experience like this in my life and actually had to walk out of the hotel without the paid for breakfast as I was very distressed. I was looking for a safe quiet place to stay in Durham and I got very aggressive, poor and inexperienced service from very untrained immature staff. I will not visit again nor recommend.…
We brought our dog to Durham to visit our son who’s at uni there during Covid....what an experience. This Inn was perfectly located if you have a pooch having Flass Vale at the end of the car park - brilliant! The dog was welcomed and made a fuss of. The staff were brilliant, friendly, helpful, welcoming and professional and did a great job in difficult circumstances. There’s a broad choice of food, cooked really well and to your liking. The breakfast was huge, satisfying and tasty. The room was warm, clean and comfortable. A friendly family run type atmosphere. Big thank you to Darren, Emilia, Alana and Nicola!
Stayed 2 nights at Kingslodge and it does indeed feel like the countryside within a city (Tawny owls hooting at night etc). Excellent adherence to COVID rules and spotlessly clean. Also had a lunch and evening meal which we good 'solid' fayre! All of the staff were hugely friendly, helpful yet professional. A couple of minor criticisms (hence not giving 5*) is that our room (room 14) was overlooking the kitchen fan which was rather noisy. Also there was a bright orange security light outside the window so the room 'glowed. Standard double bed where a king would have been better (probably wouldn't fit as room small). Also there was no shelves to place toilette bag in bathroom. All that being said, I would definitely return and recommend this hotel highly
