Went to Durham for an overnight break. From the moment we arrived the hotel staff were brilliant. The young lady on check in could not have been more helpful and that carried on with all staff all weekend (bar and restaurant). The hotel is located right in the middle of Durham and pubs/restaurants are literally right on your doorstep. The... More

This hotel is set close to the River Wear and Durham town centre. It's about a 15-20 minute walk from the station and about 10 minutes walk (uphill) to Durham Cathedral. We were welcomed by a very friendly and helpful reception staff - even offered a welcome glass of wine!. Our room was fairly well appointed with a good bathroom.... More

We had a party for 80 guests at this venue. We had a wonderful time and were looked after very well by a very friendly Staff. We had a Hog Roast and a choice of two sweets. The food was excellent and was very plentiful indeed. Everybody who came really enjoyed themselves and the only criticism would be that the... More

Not the best, not the worst. Everything is OK but I would expect a little more from a Marriott. Definitely needs an update. Staff very nice and service is good. Good view from the riverside rooms, great location.

We have stayed here several times in September of each year. We tend to stay in the Riverside Extension overlooking the river which tends to be quieter. The hotel has good facilities including a swimming pool and small gym. Whilst not in bad decorative order the hotel is looking a bit tired around the edges and could do with a... More

Staff were wonderful and even though we were not eating in the hotel they were happy to discuss local restaurants and give recommendations. Chambermaids all very friendly. Room very clean and a good size as was the bed and the extra pillows we asked for were eventually supplied. We did get the river view we asked for but the lack... More

Thanks for your review. We're sorry that you were hot in your room - unfortunately our Riverside rooms do not have air conditioning, however for any future stays, our deluxe and supreme rooms in other areas of the hotel do have air conditioning which may help to make your stay more comfortable. It was great to read your kind comments... More

I've stayed at the Royal County on and off for more than 25 years and always regarded it as my hotel of preference in the area. Unfortunately this stay put a big dent in my confidence and I'll think twice before booking again. Firstly the room which was labelled a suite was disappointing. The double bed I specifically asked for... More

We were very happy with our 3-night stay at the Durham Marriott, and would stay here again. We booked a "superior" room, which turned out to be a spacious suite, with bedroom, separate sitting room, foyer, and roomy bathroom. Though our room overlooked Old Elvet Road, we were not bothered by road noise. The location is excellent, just a quick... More

This hotel was nice, perhaps a little dated, but clean. We were upgraded to a deluxe room because there were 3 of us. Staff was very nice. Continental breakfast buffet was very ample. Would stay again and hope for an updated room.

Stayed here a few weekends back, travelled up from suffolk to stay close to Newcastle for the Great North Run. Surprised by Durham as a town, we didn't really do much research but it was actually a very nice place full of restaurants, bars, shops etc. Checked in easy with Sean who was friendly and offered us the choice of...
