I stayed for one night at the Marriott Hotel Royal County. The property is seemingly one of Durham's old hotels, acquired at some point by the Marriott chain. My room was a little faded - could do with modernising some of the décor - but was absolutely comfortable. Slept very well. I was concerned to be facing out over the... More

Nice hotel in perfect location - just short walk gets you right into old town, castle and cathedral. Shopping is also very near. Rooms are quite small, there was quite hot in breakfast room, but otherwise it was very pleasant stay. Pool in leisure center is very nice.

The staff were pleasant and helpful from reception to departure. For no specific reason, we were welcomed with a room upgrade - very spacious and comfortable with plain décor. The location is just 2 minutes walk from the historic Elvet Bridge, which leads directly into the old part of the city. Part of the hotel is directly on the riverside.... More

The hotel was fully booked when we went there in June and you can understand why. Parking although restricted is well managed by Stephen, and the reception and other staff are very attentive and efficient. Our room was nothing special but perfectly suitable to our needs for two nights. Bathroom and bedroom well decorated and everything worked. Two free drinks... More

Stayed for 1 night in this hotel. Reception staff good and efficient and our room was ready when we arrived at noon. A good room, spacious with everything you really want and need. It is in need of a little bit of care, paint wearing off doors, wear and tear on the bath, the outside windows need a lick of... More

Visited the hotel in April and had a lovely time. It's in a great location within walking distance of plenty of places to visit. The staff were brilliant. The room was nice. Having stayed at the Marriott in Leeds in May there was no comparison, there was no contest between the two. Looking forward to our next visit!

A wonderfully warm welcome was matched by the service throughout my stay. Very comfortable room and quiet too. The excellent air conditioning was set in advance so my room was nice and cool on the hottest day of the year. Thank you. The leisure club has a lovely pool with lots of areas to relax around it. Excellent bar with... More

Clean good sized rooms. Restaurant was closed on the day we were there. Breakfast was good. This hotel is well placed for visiting Durham. They have a car park for which they make a charge.
