We stayed in one of the tree houses on the Ramside estate and It was incredible. We have stayed at Ramside Hall a number of times but this stay was something else. As you can see from the photos it’s built and decorated to the highest of standards. Would definitely recommend anyone to stay here! The staff are always so helpful and the spa has great facilities and we always top it off with amazing food from the Fusion restaurant.

This is a bit of a tricky one to judge. Firstly we booked the treehouse for my 30th birthday. The website gives you a virtual tour and a layout of the treehouses. It states it can be used as a whole unit or split into 1 suite and 2 bed suite. When we arrived we were disappointed by the room - we had expected the lounge and kitchen facilities. We felt that it was misleading and although our room was nice we were underwhelmed due to the expectation of more. This needs to be crystal clear exactly what facilities are in specific for each price and pictures for each suite or studio please rather than a blanket tour. When we pulled up there were two cars parked in front of our treehouse so no room to park. The gentleman who took us there said to park on the narrow gravel path? Felt guests could be told / more considerate with parking as one car then left at 7. In the room there was no milk!! No hot chocolate? There was a bottle of wine missing from the basket. Fabulous coffee machine. Small fridge. Room was spotless and bathroom is beautiful. Lovely toiletries. There’s a great service whereby you can be collected and dropped between the main hotel and treehouse. The room was so dark, there was no lamp or light near the tv - we needed our torch to check the thermostat and use the kettle. The lighting system is a bit odd too. One of the caps on the hot tub was faulty and squirting water out. We dined in the rib room. We waited 1 hr 15 mins before asking where our food was, the manager was very apologetic and explained it was very busy although people seated after us had their starter and mains before we had eaten anything. Eventually it arrived and when it did it was beautiful. We had the steak and the lamb. As a gesture of good will the desserts were removed from our bill. The food was great but the wait made it very disappointing. We asked at reception about having breakfast in our room but were informed no as it was in the treehouse? However when leaving a member of staff was delivering a foiled breakfast tray to the treehouse next to us!! Very inconsistent. Breakfast at fusion was decent, there was a good variety to choose from. Overall, would we stay at the treehouse again? No. Perhaps in a larger group. I think we would book a suite in the main hotel for return stay. A few simple things that should be corrected.

We visited turning half term for a nice relaxed afternoon tea and were not disappointed. All staff were pleasant and attentive and the surroundings internally and externally were delightful. The sandwiches and cakes were great quality albeit the coffee could’ve been a bit hotter. Will return!

A nice hotel but expected given what you pay for it. The rooms was great and restaurants too. However, the spa was heavily booked (we could use it on certain days and couldn’t book before our visit) and there are restrictions on what you can use. In general the hotel was nice but there was a lack of a personal touch and everything seemed like a chore when making a request (e.g. robes to the room or a sewing kit). Breakfast was under staffed and poorly run. Overall, OK but I wouldn’t be rushing back.

We booked a night here on Friday 23 October and this is the first time I have ever felt the need to complain in a hotel. We booked through Secret Escapes as a dinner, bed and breakfast package and after receiving confirmation from Secret Escapes we were told we would then hear directly from the hotel. Nothing came through from the hotel and when we arrived on the Friday at 5.10pm we were told we had been booked into the Rib Room restaurant at 5.15pm. This had not been communicated to us beforehand giving us just five minutes to get to our room and get ready for dinner. We queried whether there would be gluten free vegan options as I am coeliac and myself and my partner are both vegan and there was no flexibility at all moving us from the Rib Room as the other restaurant who did offer vegan meals were fully booked. Thankfully, the meal was saved by a lovely French waiter who somehow managed to make us something from a very limited menu with only one vegetarian offering. That evening, obviously due to Covid it was table service at the bar, with the bar closing at 9.30pm. We, and other guests, bought drinks and were sitting in the bar area finishing off just after 10pm when a 'bouncer' came running towards us telling us to get to our rooms as the police were here. I don't really think this kind of attitude was necessary given that we were not told prior to this to have gone to our rooms and the police appeared quite happy to see that the bar shutters were down and then left, unfussed that guests were finishing their drinks in the bar. I really didn't feel that it was appropriate to be shouted at by staff in this situation! Next morning, having already booked and informed the reception staff the night before that I would need a gluten free and vegan breakfast, we arrived to be told that there were no options for us and that they would take around 10 minutes to try to sort something out. 40 minutes later we were told it would take another 15 minutes as they were still trying to sort out a breakfast. We were due to check out at 12 and had hoped to make the most of the spa facilities given we didn't get the chance on arrival as it had been decided by the hotel when we were having dinner and left us no free time for the spa. It then seemed we wouldn't get time that morning either whilst we waited for staff to work out what they could feed us. We decided not to have breakfast as it was not only taking over an hour waiting but by this point I didn't trust the the breakfast would be safe to eat as it was clear from the waiting staff that they didn't fully understand my allergy and food preferences. I think there is a major issue with communication in this hotel both from themselves to us as guests and between the reception staff and the restaurants. We did take our complaint to the Duty Manager who was very understanding and offered us a discount from our bill but I feel that we still paid a lot more for our overnight stay (£199.00 plus an extra £70 by the time we paid towards our dinner allowance and drinks) than it was worth. Despite these problems and to be fair in the sense of an honest review, this hotel is absolutely beautiful and is definitely somewhere we would have revisited had we not had these major communication issues and lack of trust regarding my food allergy. We did manage some time in the gym and the spa, both of which were outstanding and would love to return if we could be assured that these communication issues had been resolved :-(
