We visited the Garden House Inn during the busy weekend of Durham's Brass Festival. The service was courteous and prompt. The food was good value and well presented. I would definitely will go again. We sat indoors and enjoyed the ambiance of the rooms which had the feel of a bookish drawing room.

I have been to The Garden House a few times before and know that the service has often been very slow but yesterday was the worst. Unfortunately the food was bad as well. We had a table booked for 1.00, the orders weren't taken till nearly half past, the soup arrived at 1.50 and the mains at 2.25. The starter... More

The Garden House actually calls itself a gastropub. I've been a fairly frequent customer at this place since 1979. It's had its ups and downs over the years but has always been a comfortable establishment to visit. Like so many pubs today, the food side of business has had to assume greater importance. Of the several meals I've had there,... More

We visit the Garden House on a regular basis and have done for many years mainly for a drink and the occasional meal, after reading some of the reviews on here I would like to voice my opinion and say how great the front of house service has improved this past month since a General Manager has came in, she... First experience, booked a table during the week, restaurant was fairly busy. Meals took a while to arrive at our table. But the good food made up for poor service. Thought we would try Sunday lunch. Booked a table for late afternoon. Again it didn’t look too busy when we arrived. Unfortunately service again was poor again. The last starter... More

This is a very friendly pub/restaurant/Hotel. Stayed one night and it was ok (just) average food for both dinner and breakfast and the room was below par but just about made it as the staff were so friendly. Uncomfortable seating in the restaurant which contained a collection of rickety old chairs that did nothing for anyone with a bad back.... More

4 of us booked for Sunday lunch. Table was book for 3pm, we arrived at 14:40 and were told our table would be ready soon. Shown to our table at 15:20. No one took our order until 15:50. 2 meals came at 16:25 and the other 2 at 16:30. The vegetables were brought without serving spoons. Attitude of waitress was... More

We found this restaurant when a friend read a good review in "The Guardian" and suggested it to us. We were really impressed with the ambience and the food was well prepared and interesting. The servers seemed new and a little uninformed and slow but we were not in a hurry. The delicious food made up for the rest. There... More

Having read about this in the Guardian, booked in for birthday meal. Getting our starters took a while, but enjoyable when arrived. No scotch eggs by mid-evening. Very happy customer and very reasonably priced.

I called in with an autistic service user i look after and the blonde bar staff/Manager was so rude to us, I couldn't believe it. We were looking around for a seat, simply to sit down and enjoy a quick pint of coke....to which she hurriedly ushered us out of the dining area like cattle and said "have you booked??!!"... More
