I booked afternoon tea with a friend as a birthday treat and it was a perfect experience. We arrived half an hour early but were warmly welcomed and our afternoon tea was ordered immediately whilst we enjoyed a pot of tea. In due course the waitress brought us a three tier cake stand ladened with food: eight finger sandwiches (smoked... More

Should have stayed for three nights, only managed the first, the room was called the bijou loft and by God it was bijou. It was tiny, even to the point of claustrophobic. The air con wasn't on when we arrived, concierge turned it on seeing us in, we closed the windows then went out for the afternoon and evening on... More

Found the Town House on Trip Advisor & booked directly with the hotel after looking at reviews & hotel website. Definitely a bit different according to the photos - and in reality as well! Interesting building & of course no lift because of its age! Couple of flights of stairs up to the penthouse suite - but well worth it!... More

Have recently stayed over on a Friday night & was charged £250 for the pleasure! Which was very over priced for what you get! Don't get me wrong the facilities are good & the attention to detail is fabulous however the hot tub is in need of replacing, it's the oldest unloved hot tub I've ever came across, the jets... More

My wife and daughter had dinner here last Thursday. We all thought that the service was really good and all the staff created a great atmosphere. We had a drink in the bar before the meal which was nice touch as we were slightly early for our table. The food we ordered was delicious and big portions. For a small,... More

We stayed in the Amethyst room - really enjoyed this quirky little hotel. Bed incredibly comfortable, shower pressure fabulous, water and towel rails hot, comfortable room with lovely touches like free chocolates and mineral water. Breakfast was superb, and we had dinner one night which was also excellent. The barman was top notch, despite also doubling up on reception and... More

I have stayed at The Town House on several occasions over the last three years, and enjoyed it, especially the food. The hotel is not quite in the centre of the city, but Durham is small, so that hardly matters, and at this remove it's quiet. This time I was in a ground floor room called Eden Lodge, for a... More

Never having been to Durham before we were pleased to find this charming hotel was centrally located and just what we needed for our one nights stay. There is no dedicated parking, but almost across the street we found a space which made it easy enough to bring in the luggage. This town house is old, quirky and interestingly decorated.... More

We stayed for the weekend and loved the little room in the loft. Decorated in the style of a boudoir, it was very lovely. Couldn't open the window fully to let some air in but we managed to work the air con out (not difficult when you realise you've actually turned on the underfloor heating!). Breakfasts very nice and the... More

We visit The Townhouse on Saturday night for our wedding anniversary. We started with a drink in the bar while we looked at the menu, the bar man was very helpful and then he showed us through to the restaurant. The starters were quickly served and were lovely, the main course followed quickly after and again were lovely. The speed... More
