We had a fab stay in the Garden Lodge . Staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us. The lodge was lovely with the bonus of a very private hot tub. Bed was super comfy. Strawberries and a bottle of fizz in our room in arrival was a lovely touch 🥂🍾. Breakfast was lovely chef even came to check we were happy with our food. We will definitely be returning 😍

We booked the townhouse last year for our wedding night we booked the outside rooms with a hot tub! Due to COVID we pushed the date from April to September and decided to postpone the wedding but still have the night away in the town house. We called a week prior to arriving as things were a little up in the air with COVID and told everything was ok still going ahead. Fast forward a week later we turned up prior to booking in paid £16 for parking directly opposite walked up to the door and greeted by a sign the town house had gone into liquidation. Firstly I felt bad for the townhouse thinking that COVID had claimed another business. However as I stood there with my wife to be and our cases it dawned on me we hadn’t informed them that we had postponed our wedding day and in their eyes this was still our wedding day. We were not informed the hotel had closed and by pure luck we were not stood on the doorstep in our wedding attire. I appreciate and totally understand businesses have struggled and folded due to this horrific pandemic but we didn’t so much as receive an email or a phone call to say we were unable to stay. I can only hope others weren’t affected in the same way.

I have not received a reply to the below email that was sent to you 9 days ago. Can you have the courtesy to respond by return. Sent: 07 September 2020 13:04 To: manager@thetownhousedurham.co.uk Subject: Complaint Hi Rachel, I have been given your contact details by Stephen to raise a complaint about our recent stay at The Town House. We stayed on the night of Tuesday 1 September and were very disappointed for the following reasons – We had to call the police at 1am due to a couple having an extremely loud fight on our floor. Firstly we contacted the duty manager who did not seem to want to get involved before dialling 999 as we were concerned that somebody would be harmed. I know you cannot legislate for the types of guests you receive, however, we felt the duty manage should have resolved the issue rather than us. It turns out the police attended and sent one of the guests home as they said they could not stay together due to the risk. We were awake most of that night as we found their behaviour very disturbing. The cleanliness of the room was disgusting and the amenities were poor – see attached photos Cob webs on windows The room thick with dust on all surfaces Filthy TV screen (someone had even written “clean me” on it) No toilet roll on arrival Your web site claims use of Molton Brown toiletries – we had 1 bottle of shampoo. And no shower gel etc. The bed spread was stained and quite revolting The towels were stained The room mat was also filthy The overhead shower only produced scalding hot water so was unusable. Hotel rooms should be sanitised under Covid 19 conditions; there was no evidence of this as you can see. Upon check out we took Stephen to the room to show him the dreadful state of it and he agreed it was totally unacceptable. We have stayed at many hotels over the last few weeks and each of them had satisfactory anti Covid 19 measures in place – Sanitised rooms Face coverings in public areas Table service breakfasts We would also question the buffet breakfast – cereal packets left out for guests to rummage through, large glass jugs of juice and milk (which anyone could have handled) and uncovered pastries out on display. Again, no Covid 19 protection for your guests. We have chosen at this stage not to leave a damning review on Trip Advisor or Booking.com, until we have given you the opportunity to respond to all the complaints above. We look forward to your response. Regards,
