A warm welcome on arrival by John, who couldn't do enough for us, Shown to room 1 in the annexe, which is modern bright and spotlessly clean. Our room was spacious with modern furnishings, a selection of teas, coffee, water and homemade biscuits. A great bathroom with a large walk in shower. Plenty of bright white towels, nice toiletries all spotlessly... More

I stayed at this hotel on the sad occasion of a family funeral. The Chetwynde hosted the wake in the afternoon during which the staff were caring and professional. The lounge area was comfortable and decorated so as not to feel like a "clinical" hotel with various ornaments and furniture. I stayed in a single room which was spacious and... More

Stayed here overnight. Excellent room with great facilities, newly refurbished. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Was disappointed by the food. Don't expect haute cuisine but some of the food we ate was not good. Seafood linguine was fine. Breakfast was also fine. Good value. Would stay again in spite of the variability in the menu.

This hotel is very difficule to spot form the road and I was advise to look for the place that looks like a nursing home by local collagues. They say it normally used for older peoples birthday parties or Christening ans I can understand why. However the new annex is really nice and perhaps if they brought that atmosphere into... More

I have stayed at the Chetwynde whilst working in the area for over a year now. I find the hotel has a bit of everything to offer including a nice setting, tastefully decorated and clean rooms and public areas, a comfortable lounge to sit in and very good food from a varied menu. The staff are all excellent and make... More

Excellent accomodation. Bar a bit sparse on some spirits but not a major problem. Breakfast was freshly prepared and excellent. Nicely situated on the residential side of Barrow about 5 mins from furness abbey.

Stayed here for 1 night as we were attending a wedding nearby. Room was in an annexe building behind the Hotel. Room was clean & modern and had everything we needed for a one night stay. Staff friendly, food nice (we only had sandwiches when we arrived) Overall a nice stay would definitely stay again if ever in the area.

I stayed in this hotel for 9 months whilst working in Barrow. The food was great, with menu changing regularly with local seasonal produce. The staff were always friendly and couldn't do enough for you. I'd recommend it for both business and pleasure and its in a great location for Barrow and south Cumbria.

We recently attended a wedding here and stayed at the hotel. All I can say is it was not value for money at all. The food was mediocre at best, the drinks were just so overpriced and it put a real dampener on the day. The clearing up after the meal was slow and it felt like the staff were... More

Attended recently with friends and not impressed. £4 for a bitter shandy. Others were paying around £5 for gin and tonic. The main meal was "fish and chips". I questioned the size of the portion asking if I'd been given a child's portion in error only to be told "they're all that size sir". The fish was perhaps a third... More
