Our visit to Douneside was fabulous in every way. So much so that I am somewhat loath to 'tell the world' of our new discovery but I suppose it is only fair! We stayed for two nights in the three bedroom 'Gatehouse' whilst my parents stayed in a one bedroom cottage called 'Morven'. This cottage offered disabled facilities and this... More

Douneside House is a well known establishment on Upper Deeside in Aberdeenshire. For many years it operated as a R&R facility for military staff in summer and as a conference centre for the rest of the year, owned by the MacRobert Trust - as it still is. But now, after a very extensive and expensive refurbishment, it is operating as... More

We spent two nights at Douneside last week, which prooved to be a most enjoyable stay. The hotel has benefitted from an extensive refurbishment, and is in excellent condition. Our room (4 / Aasdair) had a completely new bathroom with wet room type walk-in shower as well as bath; complete with under floor heaed tiles. The food is amazing: The... More

I visited a newly refurbished Douneside House with my mother today and have to mention we had a wonderful lunch. Malcolm was very attentive and took our order of soup of the day, (tomato and red pepper), then we had 2 starters of duo of smoked salmon for my mother and I had the chicken liver parfait with a Waldorf... We booked our wedding anniversary dinner at the newly refurbished Douneside and it was brilliant! The food was first class,I was driving but my husband thoroughly enjoyed the wines and the service friendly and faultless. This is a great addition to the Aberdeenshire tourism offer (I was privileged to have been invited to an exclusive viewing of the refurbishments 2... More

We ate at Dounside on its 2nd night after re-opening. They had sensibly prepared a set 3-course menu while they got themselves fully acquainted with the kitchens and as a new team. The food, wine and service were fantastic and will undoubtedly get even better as they get fully into their stride. Superb location and views. The hotel has been... More

Douneside house is in a stunning location, but it is not the only reason to visit. It retains the feel of a grand country house, the staff are attentive and the service is unobtrusively excellent. I hope the refurbishment goes well and it opens again soon!

Our company recently used this venue for a week long course. The staff were excellent, the rooms were clean, the meals were amazing and the view and grounds were both scenic and relaxing. I didn't do any hiking because of the short days but you can see the potential was there for some really nice excursions.

Having spent many fantastic, relaxing breaks in this beautiful and extremely happily situated Scots baronial style house, we have seen one or two minor changes over the years. However, 2015 promises to be the most spectacular make-over we shall have seen in our 10 years of visits. Apart from the more mundane maintenance aspects such as re-roofing (no mean feat... More

Our third, but by no means our last visit. Douneside House offers the traditional atmosphere, ambience and comfort of a country house/officers’ mess. The staff are friendly, considerate and discrete, The cuisine is excellent. The facilities and amenities, both indoor and outdoor, are first class. The location is ideal for Aberdeen, Balmoral, the Highlands and the Moray Firth area. The... More
