Douneside house has undergone a major refurbishment over the last 18 months but the character of this wonderful place has not only be retained but improved in every respect. If you have never visited Douneside then put it on your 'to do list'. You will not be disappointed. Family friendly, spectacular location and scenery, 5-star cuisine, pool, sauna, steam room,... My wife enjoyed two exceptional days at Douneside House, our first visit since 2001. Warmly welcomed, the staff were friendly and attentive but not obsequious. The recent refurbishment is stylish and yet retains the 'olde world' charm of previous years. Our room was very comfortable with everything we needed. The public rooms are elegant and immaculate. We took breakfast and... More

Douneside has only recently accepted guests other than the Armed Forces, and we were really pleased with our stay. Fantastic grounds and formal gardens. We had their best room - Lady MacRobert room - and it has wonderful views with a twin aspect. There is a turret with chairs, other armchairs, lovely bed and a beautifully renovated bathroom. We took... More

Booked for an evening meal to celebrate anniversary. Fantastic scenary on drive along back road from Aberdeen and wonderful setting. All other diners appeared to be hotel guests but still made welcome. Currently still fixed no choice menu although offer to prepare other dishes if wished. Excellent quality of food and service. Refurbishment let down by cafe style tables and... More

Douneside House has recently opened as a hotel open to the public. It was previously only for the Armed Forces. It has been totally refurbished with a state of the art leisure centre with a pool , jacuzzi, sauna steam room and gym. The chef has previously worked at Gleneagles and the food shows that. There are beautiful gardens ,... More

Since our last visit in 2011 Douneside House has undergone considerable refurbishment. The house has been enhanced considerably throughout (both the bedrooms and public rooms) without detracting in any way from the character and charm of the place. The food was very good, as was the wine which was a excellent recommendation from a member of staff. The gardens are... More

Our visit to Douneside was fabulous in every way. So much so that I am somewhat loath to 'tell the world' of our new discovery but I suppose it is only fair! We stayed for two nights in the three bedroom 'Gatehouse' whilst my parents stayed in a one bedroom cottage called 'Morven'. This cottage offered disabled facilities and this... More

Douneside House is a well known establishment on Upper Deeside in Aberdeenshire. For many years it operated as a R&R facility for military staff in summer and as a conference centre for the rest of the year, owned by the MacRobert Trust - as it still is. But now, after a very extensive and expensive refurbishment, it is operating as... More
