Never been to Appleby before for any length of time so we thought we'd try a quick getaway for some R&R. The Royal Oak looked pretty good on the website so booked for a Saturday night only. Arrived early and had a good lunch in the restaurant/bar before announcing our arrival. Lunch was very well received at a reasonable price.... More

This is a comfortable pub/restaurant with well trained staff and a wide ranging menu which, they claim, is almost entirely cooked to order. The real ale is well kept, but the choice was a little limited. Service was efficient but the provision of sauces to accompany main courses was disappointing; the quantity was not nearly sufficient.

Booked here for 1 night for a birthday treat with my husband, only wish we'd stayed longer. Were booked in room 1 above the bar and didn't get disturbed by noise at all. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Didn't have to wait long to be... More

We recently stayed for 3 nights in the cottage. The cottage is very nice and very well equipped. Very comfortable beds and an excellent breakfast. We tried dinner in the pub restaurant / bar area on the 1st night. It was good but not worthy of a 2nd visit for us. I have to say the restaurant was busy which... More

Very friendly, welcomes dog, even has a dog menu!. Great place to sit down by an open fire after walking all day. Good choice of food and local ales and good value for money. Excellent service, enjoyed it so much, we went twice in 4 days.

We have stayed here twice now this year. Having three young children makes things tricky for hotels and B&Bs are most places cater for 2 adults, 2 children. We love the cottage for space and a special night away. When you walk in you are in the dining room and there is a massive high quality table and chair set.... More

Had one night dinner, bed and breakfast here. Lovely place, good room, well appointed and a good bathroom with a large shower cubicle. Good quality toiletries in the bathroom. It was also dog friendly and there was a dog bowl, mat for the bowl and a goodie bag for our dog, what a lovely touch. There is also a garden... More

Spent a fantastic overnight stay here - early check-in is available (but contact the friendly manager first). This is a great doggy-friendly inn with really comfortable rooms. Our room was on the front of the inn; it was well appointed with huge bed, high quality oak furniture, modern, clean decor which was all well co-ordinated, and a lovely en suite... More

After our last visit for a family Sunday lunch for 5 we were very disappointed so decided to take another chance and try again. Pleased we did as food was delicious this time round. Couldn't fault any of it. Will be back based on this visit.
